Default Do I need a new scanner?

Look at these cards:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=32023

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=32023

See how the right side is all washed out? I scanned both cards twice using different sides of the scanner but the same thing happened. It seems like most cards scanned here are nice and crisp. My scanner is a Bear Paw
1200cs by Mustek.

I put a lot of thought into my cards that I upload. I mostly case all of your beautiful cards but I don't upload those. I try to upload the cards that I design in my head. I can only do basic cards on my own but I still put a lot of time into them and I want to show you all a nice scan of it. If you think it is my scanner than I want to get a new one. Do you have some good recommendations?

Thanks.

WOW ~ you could really tell that the color is off on the left side... since I don't know much about how scanners actually work... I'm really no help! I was having problems awhile back with my color, my sage shadow was looking grayish! I ended up with a new scanner combo, and love it!

BTW cute House Mouse card, is that one you made “for the children swap” ~ jovi

I am sure I will not be much help either Jen...But JIC have you tried to adjust your settings? Your scan is really clear but the colors are just a bit off from one side to the other...Good Luck!

Yeah I had the same problem. I just told them that their grandmother had been updating us on his progress and that even though we have never met I wanted them to know they had a friend in Alabama.

As for the signature, I did it so that Jenn would get a laugh. She just sent me a pm when she saw it tonight and she loved it of course!!!

If you flip the card 180 degrees, is the fading still in the same place? If so, then I would guess it could have something to do with the scanner lamp. Your glass is clean and no light is getting in from the sides?

When all else fails, you could contact Mustek and ask them if they have an answer. Their website may even have some answers.

Yes Ann, I will contact them tomorrow but you know it was a cheap scanner from WalMart so I am not expecting much. I just went and looked at your gallery and you have beautifully scanned cards. What kind of scanner do you have?

I have found that scanners don't last to long. I have bought 3 scanners in 7 years. Hope you can find the problem so you can save your money for stamps!

I'm just gonna wade right in and say..."GET A NEW ONE!" LOL, if it could be fixed, it's more than likely the fix would cost more than just buying a new one. Technology changes so fast that even a $60 all-in-one is better than a good-quality older scanner.

If it's just the scanning capability you need, it's easy to pick one out. If you do get an all-in-one that you also intend to use as a copier/printer, then you really want to research the cost of ink and paper. Generally speaking, each printer model's ink works best on the same model's paper when you are doing color photos, and some companies have much higher prices! Same with inks...some cost twice as much in ink as others.

But definitely, I would not waste any further time or money on your older scanner....

Is the side of the card that looks "off" the side that is nearer to the edge? Maybe light is coming in. I dont use my scanner at home, it is a Dell and it is only a few months old but it is horrible, I have just resigned to the fact but I use the scanner that is at my desk at work. It is an HP5470c and it is awesome. The one thing that happens though is if I have the card to the very edge of the glass the light comes through and washes out the color somewhat so I put the card in the center of the glass and I lay a big sheet of copy paper over it just to block out the light and this helps. Maybe it will help or maybe I sound like I am rambling on about nothing...which is probably the case...

A few years ago I started having really weird lighting problems withs scanner I had used for 2 years with no problem. I called tech support and they told me that scanners should not be plugged into any kind of power bar, the electricity fluctuates too much and it scans uneven. So I plugged directly into the wall and haven't had a problem since. It's worth a try.

Thanks Jolene, I will definitely try that.

A friend of my mine (Jan/MomRulz) told me to take a picture of my card with my digital camera. I just did that and uploaded it a side by side comparison. The color is better but the brightness and lighting sticks. Oh well....

Have you turned your scanner off recently? When I first got my Lexmark all in one, it started to look like that after a few days. I called the tech support (which routed me to India) and after 20 minutes of adjusting to the accent, we tried turning it off, unplugging all the power cords, counting to 10 (One, one thousand, two one thousand...), then plugging it all back in and turning it on. Then it took a warm up time of a minute or so and worked perfectly. Since then I turn it off each night and let it cool down.

Good Luck!

When I've had trouble scanning good images, I have a couple of things I try. One is to hold down the lid as tight as you can so no light gets in. If that doesn't work, sometimes putting a black piece of paper over your card before you scan the card will help even out the light it is picking up. Try that to see if that helps. If not, YUP - it might be the scanner.

All great advice! Will turn off scanner. Will use black paper, I have been using white. Will hold lid down tighter. Thanks!
