I searched the forums but found no discussion on stamping on slate. My uncle makes slate coasters, so I thought it would be neat to try to stamp on those, instead of the tumbled tiles. Does anyone have experience stamping on slate? Any advice? Thanks so much!
I just posted a pic in my gallery of some flat rocks I stamped on--I embossed them just like I would paper!
I would think craft inks or acrylic paints would work well on slate. My mother has stenciled and free-hand painted on slate many times, and It always looks great. I don't recall that she's ever done anything special or unusual. Just make sure it's clean and dry beforehand, and probably spray it with a clear sealant (like Krylon) when it's dry.
I have stamped on slate. I stamped in VersaMark and embossed with detail black EP, then I colored in the image with twinkling H2Os. They came out great! I made 20 Christmas ornaments this way. I wish I had a picture to share, but my camera was not working at the time I made them.
I have painted on slate for years. I always clean them first, then after they are dry I use mod podge to give them "tooth", something for the paint to stick to. I would then put a thin layer of acrylic paint on them then stamp with black stazon and color them with markers. hth. Melony
