Hi everyone! We have started receiving Christmas cards, and I LOVE to display them (especially the handmade ones!), but I don't want them taking up valuable space on my counter tops, especially now that holiday baking is in full swing!
Does anyone have any ideas on how to display them artfully? I know some creative people have undoubtedly already thought of this, and there are probably hundreds of blog entries on this very subject, but I cannot seem to find any of them.
Thanks!

I tape all of my Christmas cards to my back door, beginning in the shape of the Christmas tree, with a tall one as the star, then working my way down. I've done that for years, so that we see them every time we are near the doorway.
I just saw an idea on HGTV to string ribbon on the wall, zigzagging back and forth, and hanging the cards on the ribbon. It showed a star or snowflake on the top. I'm thinking some of that removable/repositional poster tape would work to hang it on the walls. Looked cute and I might try it this year.
Many of our Christmas cards are hung from ribbons across the wall, some are also amongst the books in our bookcase.... I open the card then push the back portion between the books so the front of the card is resting against the spines of the books. I know many people who use a door to display the cards and it looks lovely.
Thanks for the ideas! We are renting our house, and I love that all these ideas don't involve investing in anything permanent that we might not use in our new house.

I do the same thing, except I tape the cards to the back of my front door, visible to my living room where the tree is. Also, I hadn't thought about making a shape like a tree. I just do mine kind of mosaic however they will fit together. Thanks for the tip.

Two great minds think alike!! LOL...glad I gave you the idea to hang them so they make a shape of a tree. I've done that for years.
Our kids made wreaths a couple of years ago using beads and wooden clothes pins and that is what we use to hold our Christmas cards. You use the clothes pin to hold each card and when you have the whole thing filled it looks like a wreath. We have three of them and we put them on the wall in our kitchen/dinning area.
We used to tape them around the doorway between the living room and dining room so we could enjoy them as we walked through. I always used masking tape so it wouldn't damage the wall and usually would easily pull of without damaging the card either.

We do this too. We tape them to the molding surrounding the entry to the living room. We used to tape them to the back of the front door as well.
We have a wide doorway with pocket doors leading from the foyer to our family room, so we string garland across the top of the doorway and attach the cards to it with clothespins.

I attach mine to a swag I hang between the kitchen and dining room (the picture doesn't have any on it yet!) I punch a small hole in the cards and attach them with green pearl cotton or any heavy thread. I also do needlework so they all get mixed in with the cards.
I took an old Reader's Digest (you could use any old book) and folded each page in half towards the centre. This creates an accordion type holder. Just slip the cards in between the folds. It hardly takes up any space at all and everyone can just flip through your cards.
I just pinned an idea on pinterest today. It's a wood and fabric card holder that can hang on the wall, involves a little sewing. I think I'm going to make one, but probably for next year. Here's the link to the project. Some great ideas on this thread.
I stapled a ribbon to the top of a door in my foyer then staple my handmade cards to that. it's a wonderful way to display all of your cards. It's out of the way, no one sees the staples in the top of the door, and you can flip the ribbon to the inside of the door until next year. It's also quick and easy to add or take off cards. I use a ribbon that is burgundy and green and gold and leave it up all year. I display all of my cards this way. I can think about the wonderful friends I have that care enough to send a card.

Reason: adding a photo
We have a spiral staircase, and around the top of it I lace white string and hand the cards over this. It looks like extra Christmas decoration and it takes about 100 cards - sometimes we end up with cards sitting on the furniture, but not often!
I put mine in my venetian blinds in the family room and kitchen eating area. Gives both rooms a wonderful pop of colour and it is great to be able to look at them while you eat or watch TV

Growing up we always taped cards to the back of our front door which was facing the living room (typical of houses in the early 50's in the midwest). So when we had our own home in the far west, we did the same on the double doors in our entry. Since then, our double doors have been replaced by sliding glass doors, so now I put them in a red/green basket on the fireplace hearth. Easy to flip through and easy to clip any enclosed letters/pictures to so they can be view/read as well. I do like the swag with the cards displayed that Catermrc uses. I have a place almost exactly like that in my great room between the kitchen/dining area and living area. Catermrc, where in Western Oregon do you live---we may be neighbors?!
I also put mine on our wooden blinds on our door facing the kitchen nook and family room. This way we can enjoy them and it adds a decorative element to our room
When the clip it up came out, I did not buy the clip it up, but I bought boatloads of the little hanging clips because I have a lot of wire shelving in my home. I hang our cards using those little clips that hang from the wire shelving in our family room.
