disappointed with su caddy
I just got the su stamp pad caddy, and I'm disappointed. This is the first thing I've ever gotten from SU that I haven't been totally satisfied with. Is anyone else disappointed? I find that it's pretty wobbly. Plus, it doesn't turn nearly as easily as I thought it should. I thought I would just be able to turn it easily to get out different stamp pads- but I actually have to stand up and turn it by the top handle- and then sometimes the handle kind of snaps. My demo talked to SU but they won't take it back or exchange it since I'm just disappointed and there's nothing really wrong with it. I'd be interested to hear anyone else's experiences. Thanks

I wasn't thrilled with mine either; I think I was expecting it to spin more easily, too. However, I do love that I can store all 48 pads in a relatively small space on my table - soooo much better than storing them in their boxes, which is what I used to do. Someone on SCS speculated that it spins slowly by design so that ink pads don't go flying out when someone's a little over-zealous with the spinning!

I just ordered one...I've heard a lot of varying opinions. I decided to get it to put my classic pads in; I have a Port A Ink that I keep them in now; that will be reserved for my craft pads. One of the things that made me decide to get a Color Caddy is that it is a little smaller than my Port-a-Ink and I've also had customers who are curious about the CC so I thought they would be able to get a look at it themselves and decide.
One of the things I saw suggested if you'd like it to spin a little more freely is to put it on a lazy susan...Rubbermaid has these and you can usually find them at most discount stores. |

A lazy Susan is a great idea that I'll have to try. I have to actually lift mine up to turn it. I was very disappointed.
I am constantly amazed and impressed by the good ideas I read about here. This site is invaluable. Now, before I buy anything, I check out the threads here to gain insight. Of course, now I tend to spend more than ever since I have all this knowledge!! ;) |
Color Caddy
:D I love my color caddy, and wouldn't give it up for anything! It takes up far less space on my work table that the boxes did, plus it is so simple for me to see all my colors at once when I am trying to work on color combos. It may be a little harder to turn than I'd like, but the extra space on my table is worth that inconvenience.

I HATED my color caddy. My dh bought me an oak one from a carpenter and I just love it. All of the problems stated above are exactly the ones I had and SU would not take it back even for an even exchange for other SU items. That is the one and only problem I have had with SU!!:)

If you have overtightened the handle, it won't turn properly. It is not speculation that it does not turn freely so the ink pads don't fly out. That is what SU has stated. Mine turns fine, but not round and round like a lazy susan. It is wobbly, but that doesn't compromise its ability to hold pads, but it does add to its portability (if it were made to be sturdier, it would be heavier).
For those of you having difficulty, try not tightening the handle so much. Also, turn it gently, not like you're trying to get it to spin freely. Good luck. I love mine. |
color caddy to tight
If you are hearing a clicking noise each time you turn it, it is over-tight...and won't turn as easily as it should. It is not designed to rotate freely as that would make it difficult to put the pads back in.

My demo had one at 10 club and we all agreed it was just not sturdy enough. We ended up ordering 100 pad holders from kingdom.com. Love mine. It is wood.

I LOOOOVE mine!
In my opinion, it's lightweight but sturdy. I've carried it by the handle (took it to a friends fully loaded to let her see it). If not all the pads are in, it may wobble more(?). I love the portability of it and haven't had one problem with it at all. Mine spins fine. I can turn it on the side or with the handle. I've heard that tightening the handle too far causes it not to spin well. It takes up such little space too. |
I LOOOVE mine too. I wish I had gotten it sooner! Mine spins fine, isn't too wobbly, and turns easily. For those of you that still have one that doesn't turn well, try loosening the handle and let us know if that helped any.

I didn't get it and now with the new colors kind of glad I didn't. I got the Fellowes when they still sold them (can't get them now) I think that one holds 96 ink pads so it will hold the new neutral colors too :)

I absolutely love my color caddy!!! It spins fine, I can turn it from the sides, it doesn't spin fast enough that my kids can send inks flying around the room, it is plenty sturdy, I've carried it to demos by the handle and never lost any pads in the car!! Try untightening the handle a little!!

The only fix mentioned that works is to buy a lazy susan to put it on. It's wobbly no matter what you do. The only things I do like about it is that it keeps the pads handy and doesn't take up much space. I think it's a very poorly designed product.
In light of the fact that SU! will not take these back if someone's dissappointed in it, if I were a demonstrator, I would not advise customers to buy it unless they've seen one first hand. A bad experience would just create ill feelings towards a company that has a good product line and is pretty good to deal with otherwise. |
I am not totally thrilled with mine either except for the fact that I can keep all my stamp pads in one convenient smaller space. My handle isn't too tight but it doesn't turn/spin very well. And for the price I paid, I am extremely disappointed about SU! adding more colors and no place to put them in the caddy. And shame on SU! for not being more customer friendly in this instance about not accepting returns/substitutions for customers that want to return them.

I, too, was extremely disappointed. My handle would never attach becuase the center rod was too short. I was able to send mine back, thank goodness. I ordered a wooden one which holds the reinkers, markers and pad. Totally awesome. This is the only item I've ever been displeased about from SU!

It is o.k. I did not have anything so something is better than nothing. I was not very happy with it though. I am not sure what to do now with all the new colors. There is to little room. I would not spend more money to buy another one either. I will have to try the lazy susan idea also.

Yes, it holds the new ones, although they stick over the edge just a little. They do not fall out because the slots are just snug enough so they are secure. Also, shelves may be removed. I removed the second and the fourth levels so they would hold my really thick Chalk pads. It is a very nice holder and takes up SO little space on my table because it is so thin. It is a bit over 2 1/2 inches deep so it holds an old style pad where the the edge of the pad is flush with the edge of each slot. My friend has all new style pads in hers and it looks fine and works great. Our whole 10 club (almost) ordered them and all of us are quite delighted with them. One drawback is that you would not use this to carry pads around. It is strictly a table use thing.

I've got one of those wooden ones from Kingdom too...I find that the thickness of the slots is not consistent and that some slots will not fit pads that others will. In addition, I used it to put my craft pads, spectrum pads, stazon etc. I had it up on a shelf and the whole thing crashed over the other day on the floor when I was trying to put a pad in it. I broke the lids of three spectrum pads and one encore pad. That's when I decided to order the Color Caddy...the wooden one from Kingdom should really be fixed to something or it is too easy to tip over.

I would not have it freestand. Mine was tight against a wall (but not attached with anything). I bump that table all the time and have never had a problem. If you have it freestanding and not tight against a supporting wall or up on a shelf that does not provide really good support I can see it could be a problem. Jan, since you mentioned this I went and put a small piece of velcro tape on the back and attached that to the wall. This little adjustment does make it seem much more stable. I am going to order a second one today because I have seen it used for EP, reinkers, etc. by removing the shelf. I just love that it takes up virtually no space on my table where I would be working. I have found the slots on mine to be of consistent space, but I do have a few pads that slightly vary in size making some a snugger fit than others. My friend stores 50 reinkers on the top of hers.

I love, love, love, love mine! I like that it is small. I grab it by the handle and carry it off with me to my workshops! Love it! I think it is meant to turn stiffly so the pads dont go flying out.

I have not bought the SU color caddy but my friend has. I was not impressed with it either. I currently have a 4 sided one that turns on a lazy susan type of device. My friend made this for me out of wooden silverware organizers! She added little shelves made from old wooden blinds and then made a box on top! It was a sweet gift. I now have seen the custom made one's that have space for the markers and re inkers on the same row!! Also has drawers on the bottom. I'm either saving my money ($150 or more) OR talking my brother into building me one like it!

I love my color caddy! Mine turns fine and fits on my tabke nicely. I also like the handle at the top - I just pick the whole thing up and take it with me :)

I just love my color caddy also. Mine is not wobbly at all and it is full with 48 pads and stuff in the top containers. It spins just fine but then again, I was made aware of the fact that it was not intended to spin like a card rack in the store, so I already knew about that before purchasing. I also love to just grab it and go when I go to a crop night (like this past saturday) or an entire crop weekend!
When the new pads come out i'll just stick them in one of my old stamp boxes on the side, I really don't think it's a big deal to have a couple of pads sitting on the side or in the top container. As it is, my top container has my Encore pads and versamark pads and my one and only spectrum pad sits up there also. I love the color caddy. |
Check out the units on suink.com (that's Storage Units ink). I haven't bought one yet because they are kind of pricey, but I planning on conning the DH into getting it for my birthday :) I refuse to buy the Stampin Up caddy because it ONLY holds the SU pads. What about Versamark, Encore, and Kaleidacolor pads? If I'm going to spend that much $$ on a caddy I want it to be versatile! I'm really hoping SU comes out with a new, more versatile one in the new catalog.

The Stampin' Up caddy does hold other pads like versamark, spectra, etc. It is just big enough to accomidate the su! ones, but it will fit smaller ones too. :)

Is the kingdom.com one the wooden holder for 100 cassettes? I've got a friend who is working on her stamp room and I think she would be interested in one, but don't want to show her until I am sure I am directing her to the right one. She used to be a CTMH consultant and I believe the pads are like the old SU ones, can you verify that this rack will work for those? Thanks for any help you can offer. |
Yes, that is the one. I bought the one in light pine and it is very nice! I love the removable shelves (must be done very carefully though).

I love mine. I have thrown away my cardboard boxes and use this exclusively now. I turn mine from the sides (just grab a corner and turn), and it turns pretty well. As has been said, we don't want it spinning too fast (or we'll all be killed by flying stamp pads!!)
I actually saw one first-hand at my downline's house, and just fell in love with it. She says that she uses hers at all her workshops now and has sold a number of them because of it, so I guess not everyone is unhappy with the way it works. Could it be the newer ones are better than the original ones released late last year? I've only just got mine in the past few months. |
Returns?
I don't really have a good understanding of SU's return policy. Maybe someone can help me... Why would SU not allow you to return this caddy if you changed your mind about it? I thought you could return anything within 90 days without a problem. Is this not right? Please help, I'm new to this!

Are we talking about the Color Caddy on page 223 that costs $59.95?! They won't let you return this? That's alot of money for something you aren't satisfied with. Seems very odd to me that SU! would be so short-sighted. Shame.

Color Caddy
I received my color caddy as a gift as soon as it was available in the catalog. I LOVE it!!! It takes up so little space, every color is right there at my fingertips that I can see and get to easily and I not only have the 48 pads in there but the refills on top and I even place all of the markers next to the coordinating pad in the little slot to the right of it. The markers do stick out a little but this way, they are all right there too and I can see and get at them as easily as the pads and refills. It is so nice to have everything right there and coordinating. Mine also spins fine and I just love it!!! Maybe give it more of a chance. :) Good Luck!

I really love mine. It doesn't wobble. It doesn't spin freely (which I'm glad of with little people in my house), but it does turn without problems - I can turn it by pushing one of the black things that hold the pad (how do you like this technical terminology?) although I am generally a stand-up-while-you-stamp kinda girl and will grab the handle at the top to turn it because it's just THERE.
I want two more - one for classic pads (which I don't have right now) and one for all the miscellaneous pads. |

If you go to www.stampinthings.com and look at their "Elite" model it is awesome. For $79.95 you get a high quality wood handmade unit that will hold 60 pads. It's made to hold 48 stampin up and then 12 extras (specturm, versamark, it even holds my full size Colorbox chalk pads with the high domed lids). It's on a lazy susan and and it is hand built by Sue, a very nice lady to deal with. I just got mine around 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it!
