I have been wondering this, too, as a BIL works for a large paper company in NY. I think my BIL's company deals mainly with white papers, though. Will be interesting if anyone knows!
I was told it was Georgia Pacific. Their white cardstock is identical to SU white and you can buy it at Walmart by the ream. The person who told me has a relative who works for SU, but I cannot verify it beyond that hearsay.

I can tell you right now that SU!'s white paper is NOT the same as Georgia Pacific. SU! Ultrasmooths have a coating on them so the ink won't bleed. The GP will bleed, has a slightly yellower hue and doesn't fray when cut on the fiskars cutter. I use it when I need a white core base that will not be stamped on, to let my kids use when making cards (does that make me cheap?), and also when I am scrapping and I want my journaling done on the pc, I print it on the GP.
The best I have found to come close to SU WW, is Beckett Expression Cover. It is 80# Super Smooth. Their color is Iceberg. There are a lot of big paper stores that sell Beckett paper, but I get mine from Marco Paper.
Beckett Expression in Candlelight is the same as SU VV.
They even have Fox River Confetti Cover that is the same as the old SU Confetti Tan,

I have to comment on ribbon. I think SU's ribbon prices are great! Where can you get 25 yards (not feet) for 5.95? In my area, I can buy 3 yards of gingham from Ofray for 1.99. I think we get a great deal on our ribbon!
Being involved in the Wholesale part of the stamping/scrapbooking world and working with other companies.. there are a few things I do know
There are only 3 companies that make acid free lignin free papers. then it is other companies that buy certain exclusive colors ONLY for that company. They can not sell SU or CM or CTMH etc papers only but to those companies..so you will never see their papers anywhere but through demos. Then there are the products like SNAIL, coluzzles, hardwares, ribbons.... that are just PACKAGED and LOGOED for a company. But you can get them other places.
I hope this helps. So you'll never have access to the paper for SU cheaper from anyone but a Demo. but the other stuff is out there.
I don't know who manufacturers it for SU but I did learn on our demo website yesterday that SU is phasing in true 12x12 size paper beginning July 1st. Before, it measured 11-7/8 x 11-7/8. It suited me fine because it allowed room for embellishments and I could still put it in a page protector. But soon if you are cutting a 12x12 sheet for 6x6 pages or any other projects, it will certainly be a lot easier. This change is the result of receiving a lot of input from customers and demonstrators. If you still want slightly less than 12x12, just trim it down an 1/8 inch. At least now we have the ability to have whichever size we prefer, whereas before, we didn't.
I remember that they passed out pieces of WW cs at Convention last year and then were simply taking each sheet out of the manufacturer's ream. But I can't remember the name!! It definitley wasn't Georgia Pacific. Keep your eye open at convention this year and maybe you'll spot a ream of it.
The weight of that Georgia Pacific colored paper is not heavy enough I don't think. And I agree about the white. It's not the same. I have gone to an office paper store though and bought some that was really good and close in color but I can't remember the brand name. It was something like $27 for 500 sheets.

The white Georgia Pacific that you get at Sams Club is extremely similar to SU WW. The weight and feel are the same, but the color is just a slight bit bluer. I can only tell the difference when I am holding the two next to each other. They stamp exactly the same though. I have heard the Georgia Pacifci at Walmart is not the same, but the stuff I got was at Sams Club, $8.50 for 250 sheets. I don't think you can get colored paper close to SU anywhere else. I don't even try.
Jennifer, I completely agree. In fact my friend's demo stamped several things on both and dared us to tell which was which. We could not. She said that we should buy at Sam's and use our money for stamps. I am sure she used the Sam's stuff for all her 10 clubs. Lay the 2 side by side and stamp. Aside from the GP stuff being a brighter white (but only in some lots of reams) you really cannot tell the difference.

Yeah, I know their ribbon is a really great price considering how much you get, but I want most of the colors, and I just can't afford to spend that much money:(
I don't know about the GP you can get at Sams Club, but the white GP from Wal-Mart doesn't hold up to blender pens or mineral spirits. The blender pens make the paper ball up, and the mineral spirits don't move the colored pencils as smoothly. I too have found that the inks bleed, espcially noticable on the darker colors, black, basic brown, artichoke and so on. JMO
The 48 SU colors are made for SU. I don't know which of the paper manufacturers make it. Many of the other specialty papers are NOT specific to SU and can can be purchased at local paper stores. I figured this out when I found Fox River papers at a local paper warehouse. Fox River Confetti Kaleidoscope is SU Confetti White, the Confetti Ninja is SU Confetti Cream. There was a thread on here ages ago about this. Paperzone.com sells a metallics line Gold Leaf, Luster (silver), Bronze (copper) is the same as SU sells. I have not purchased from Paperzone (yet)but the other SCS folks made the comparison that they in fact were the same papers. My local paperstore also carries Kromekote Glossy cs. It comes in 4 weights, I am sure that the 92lb is the SU version. I use heaps of glossy and buy it by the ream (about 10 cents a sheet). There isn't one technique that doesn't look just fabulous on it. HTH

SCEmily, maybe your demo can organize a ribbon swap. My Demo's upline organized a swap during sell-a-brations where we all got 3 feet of every ribbon in the catalogue for ~$30 canadian as part of a scrapbook night. I didn't really use ribbon before that but now I love it.
When SU says 48 exclusive colors, I think that means that they design a specification for each of the papers (color, dimensions, weight...) and have manufacturers produce to that specification, and sign a contract that says they will not produce SU spec product and sell it to anyone but SU. In theory anyone that meets the spec can be an SU supplier, but you should not be able to buy any of the designer paper, or 48 color paper anywhere but SU.
The same plants that produce for SU have to produce other paper to support the equipment investment, and they would produce it in all quality ranges. They may have their own brand, and most likely produce for other brands as well.

I agree on the ribbon. I tell all my friends who don't even stamp that they need to get their ribbon from SU. My demo just loves me for it

I have found that too. I used that Sam's paper for a very long time, but once I started using my blender pend for coloring, I stopped because the paper just couldn't take it.
