Annabelle, we already had one uproar on this site a few months ago because of a member posting inflammatory, accusatory statements about SU! demonstrators. Please don't be the catalyst for another series of fights. Please? I've seen more moderator interventions and locked threads in the past few months than in the more than two years since I first found this website. I'd hate for this thread to get out of control and have to be shut down as well.

Britta, thank you for trying to defuse this situation before it has a chance to escalate.

Oh my, this thread has had me giggling at times and then eyes popping at times -- my tattoo is one of those Big Capital H's -- ya know, ho ho ho; the liposuction removed the rest!

Yes, the more you buy, the more secrets are revealed. I'm one ink pad away from finding out if Daven wears boxers or briefs.

LOL...

You are too funny. I know that this will be *old* considering I'm so late to post but it was hilarious.
PS. I'm betting boxers although I'm quite aways from knowing for sure!

Yeah...just don't confuse your Ultra Clean cleaner with your body splash and you should be okay for a good 3-6 months!

Personally as a customer, I would have to say that I would love to see the demo forum for one reason and one reason only...and that is that you guys have so many friggin great ideas and I am trying to absorb every little morsel and I get too excited waiting for the next *crumb* of info I might get from my demo...L
Having said that though...I too am in the home party plan business (and was in traditional retail for 16 years..same rules when it comes to this stuff)..anyway....as a fellow demo or sales person I know the need to have a slight upper hand on the customer. You cant give away all the trade secrets and such. Even the bad things that get discovered from time to time...in the case of my company for example if some product is deemed to not be satisfactory...You wouldnt go out and set up a business to make a livelihood for yourself and then turn around and tell all your neighbours how you are doing it, step by step especially when you are relying on those neighbours to spend money with you.
Lets face it, KFC, Macdonalds, Tim Hortons (for canadians) they grow by giving away their tried and true recipes and business practises...but they give them away with a very hefty price tag. Same goes for those of us in a smaller scale of the business world. If the demo forum is that important to people then they should become demos and receive all that info. JMO
Thank you for the very well written and accurate post... well done!

Consuelo, you crack me up. I just read all these posts, and
for the record...As a demo, I like SU! customers even the ones that aren't my own. Well, most of you anyway. I'm not out to swindle, cheat, or bamboozle anyone. My family laughs at me for being such a rule follower. Don't assume anything about anyone. Say what ever you want about SU! products, it doesn't matter to me. I love the products, and no publicity is bad publicity. However, when it comes to your fellow human beings, demos..customers...whomever...have a little consideration and compassion. Don't make generalizations and think before you post something nasty for everyone to see.

I can't help but feel for those customers who really, really want to know what we do behind our closed doors in the Demo World! Does anybody remember that Saturday Night Live skit where the men were so curious about what it was like in the ladies room? And when they got there, they found that there were god-like handsome studly men waiting on women who lounged on couches and were fed peeled grapes....

But I have to say...you wanna know? You really wanna know? Okay...I'm gonna sing!.................

(okay...think Little Shop of Horrors...Be a Dentist with Steve Martin...same thing...one, two, one-two-three-four-----)

When I was young and just a bad little kid,
My momma noticed funny things I did.
Like making pony tail holders with my pop-o-daisy.
And using my Indian bead loom like crazy,
I'd take my lame creations and sell 'em at school.
That's when my momma said...
(What did she say?)
She said my girl I think someday
You'll find a way
To make your natural tendencies pay...

You'll be a demo.
You'll have a talent for selling stamps!
Hon', be a demo.
People will pay you like you got cocaine!

Your temperament's wrong for nursing,
And teaching would suit you still less.
Hon', be a demo.
You'll be a success.

"Here she is folks, the leader of the camp."
"Watch her ink up that stamp. Golly gee!"
"She's a demo and she'll never ever be any good."
"Who wants to spend money on rubber when you can get it free?"

"Oh, that's expensive! Wait! I'm not rich!"
"Eh, Shut Up! Open up your purse, you...er (nevermind!)"

I am your demo.
And I enjoy the career I love well.
I'm your demo.
And I get off on the stamps that I sell!

I thrill when with PearlX I'm dusted.
It's swell, though they tell me I'm mal-adjusted.

And though it may cause my customers distress.
Somewhere...Somewhere in heaven above me...
I know...I know that my momma's proud of me.
"Oh, Momma..."

'Cause I'm a demo...
And a success!

"Now huff..."
"Now HUFF..."
"Now HUUUUFFFFF!!!"
"Now stamp!"

Really...I do apologize...what came over me?

As a customer (in the past), I can't even imagine wanting to enter the 'demo side' here on SCS... I mean... If I had been allowed to enter... I would have seen all the "WOW" ideas, sample cards, techniques and things that my demo would use in her workshops, stamp camps, stamp-a-stacks and all. I could have download the paterns, and tried them out for myself... in advance to her events. What fun would I have had attending anything she offered??? This would be like sneaking up Christmas Eve... opening all the presents under the tree... slipping back into bed... and awakening Christmas morning expecting to be all excited!

Password that will allow non-demos into all of this "secretive" "top Secret" stuff: Bee-A-Demo ... Then **attempt** to create a fun-filled, exciting workshop/camp for all of your customers who also have this same code and access to the 'demo side' of SCS.

As for me, I'm heading back to bed... I'm not even going to watch you unwrap all of your gifts before Christmas morning

I have a problem with analogies in general because usually I see stark differences between the circumstances in any given analogy and the situation to which it is being applied. Frex, I have Lord knows how many templates and instructions sitting here on my hard drive and what fraction of those have I actually used? And yes, I have used those few at home and crafted up a storm, but is that the same as going to a crop or other crafting event and interacting with other humans? Or being shown how to do something, and seeing some variations on it by other attendees or the demo? Kind of reminds me of the SCSr who commented that now she's read all the spoilers from session one of convention, there would be no point in her going to session two because now she knows everything and would be bored. There's quite a difference between seeing a template online, and creating a finished project based on that template. JMHO.

That said, I'm not personally into trying to figure out how to get onto the demo side myself. Those few posts of Daven's that I've read about his philosophy for this site have led me to realise there are very strong and well-thought-out reasons for the format of this site for the most part, and I will respect the care and effort that went into those decisions. Again, JMHO.

Oops, if I could edit I would say "in a class or workshop" when I talked about creating stuff from templates in my previous post.

First off I gotta say you girls are hysterical!!! Jan...your song just cracked me up!!

As for the *serious* side of this thread (darn, how did it get back to the serious side anyway? LOL)
I am not a demo, as I have stated before so I am going on assumptions but I am thinking that in the demos only forums, the least talked about things is templates and techniques. I mean I see it as more of a support thing. I might be wrong...I have been known to be..L
But I *envision* it in my mind as being a support system in place where they can discuss things that might be working with some and not working with others. Granted, since we are all on here at SCS we have a hard time imagining that running the business side of SU could be difficult for a demo BUT..I can see lots of *problems* that they might want to just bounce off each other. LIke what you might ask?
Ok lets try these out for size:

1. How do you get people to actually book a workshop? Kind of important since workshops tend to be the scenario where *newbies* are converted into rubber obssesors such as ourselves on SCS. Trust me...not everyone loves the idea of having home parties etc and as a consultant for another company, I know this makes expanding your business very difficult

2. Where do you find new *business* when you might live in a small town and have several demos already in town? Again, goes very easily for any company and product.

3. How do you charge for classes? Again, my demo might be charging $20 for a Stamp a stack and demo 2 down the street might be charging 40 but inclueds a 3 course lunch. Which method works better to draw more customers?

4. Where do you promote your business?

5. Have you ever tried (this or that...insert any example you want into this question)

6. How did you handle this sort of situation? (again imagine any sort of, perhaps, *difficult customer* situation) I'll give you an example from my own selling experience...Customer comes to the party, sees Product A in person, loves it, ooohs and ahhhas over it,.has to have it...gets excitede and orders it. When she recieves it she says.....nay.....it's not want I wanted...hello? Unlike 80% of the catalogue you didnt order it blind you saw it in person...yet........the customer is always right...(altho having been a retail biz owner for 16 years I can honestly say that aint true...LOL)

Ok see what I mean by a support system? Sure, they learn new techniques and stuff off each other too but they learn that stuff off of us creative customers too sometimes so that part of it to me isnt so big.
Like I said, I might be wrong but it is MY vision of the demos forum...and if it is even remotely close I dont need to know what happens behind door number one JMO

We brand each other as well. You heat up a rubber stamp with an embossing gun. Drink a couple of amaretto sours. You get the idea. Mine is on my right butt cheek. Your upline gets to choose the image. Mine says "Will work for stamps" but over the years, the stretch marks have distorted it. Now it looks more like, "Will ho for stamps."
Thank you for making coffee come out of my nose...good thing it was only lukewarm...

Again, JMHO.
Thank you Mel

Deca is pretty much right as well. Most templates that are "demo" templates are from SU, not here on the site, and last year sometime we changed things around and things like templates for projects went to the general side and the "resources" back there are demo related (like inventory charts) or something along those lines. And techniques are discussed in the techniques forum in the general side. Like I said previously, it is not a mimic of the general discussion side but more of a business related discussion area.

And Jan-I have often been called a dealer by some of my customers, but now you have given us all a theme song. Thanks for the morning laughs everyone.

Yes, sometimes product is "deemed unsatisfactory" ... and the sooner I know that (whether finding it out here or from SU!), then when I am with my customers I can suggest they wait until the problem has been fixed.
It was NOT MY comment I was responding to the use of those words in post #114. Please re-read!

whoops well some twists and turns later and here we are. Glad that was not your intention since it does not happen on the SU demos forum, and I doubt any of the stamp company representatives I have ever encountered would set out to do this (regardless of company).

I'll open my big mouth because I am told I am quite good at it...

it is never about Demo's vs. Customer's - at one point most demos were customers...probably very good customers.

The thing is in this day and age we live in an instantanious world...we want everything and we want it now...gosh forbid we have to wait...we can pop on the internet and find out what movie is playing down the road instead of calling the movie house and waiting 10 minutes for the recording to get to the movie you are interested in...we can place an order at an on-line store and have it show up at our house 2 days later...

Just like there are many types of customers there are many types of demos (of whatever home based company you may represent) - someone may have issues with their demo...just like demos have issues with thier customers. There are demos who are at the core a hobby demo and are more than happy to share discounts and information with thier customers...many of whom if they are truely a hobby demo were their friends before becoming a demo...on the flip side there are many demos (once again of any home based business) where this is thier JOB - this is how they make money to support their family, pay bills, etc...while they may love the products they offer they are more concerned with the cash bottom line than collecting as many products as they can...Every demo of every Home based business is going to do things differently...some may share "inside" information...some may choose not to. As a customer to many different Home based companies I have come accross demos and consultants that did a piss-poor job at what they are suppose to do and had horrible customer service...does that stop me from buying form that particular company - NOPE...but it does force me to look for someone selling that product that is the right fit for me...

As with all companies there are little quirks, growing pains, problems...that you don't want aired to the general public...the bottom line is if someone is really interested about how a company works...if they want what little perks and privilages a company offers then they need to become a part of that company to see for themselves.

As for the demo forum here at SCS it is merely a tool to help demos get a better grasp on their business - to ask questions of each other in how it relates to situations that occur while dealing with their business...quite frankly nothing is really kept "secret" anymore in regards to promotions and specials and upcoming minis...

Words have a lot of influence on people...everyone is entitled to thier own opinion and people have to right to defend that opinion as well. When someone makes a generalization about a product that you are trying to sell...and with that selling helps the livelyhood of your family...well people are going to raise thier guards up. SCS is a powerful influence...it makes us buy lots of stuff (well it makes me buy lots of stuff...) so when a product you are trying to sell is badmouthed the first thing you want to do is defend it like a baby - and there is nothing wrong with that... just because you don't like something or have a problem with something doesn't mean everyone else will or does...

And yes there are terrible things going on in this world but you know this is a forum for stampin' and scrappin' so if someone wants to whine and moan about something to do with stampin' and scrappin this is the place to do it...if I want to debate the state of the economy I'll go over to the forum boards at CNN...

as the person who posted that comment, annabelle, I WILL handle it...
Here is a quote from my statement...

Even the bad things that get discovered from time to time...in the case of my company for example if some product is deemed to not be satisfactory...

The comment about unsatisfactory product was not referring to SU products...it was an example from the company I represent that. However...YOU were the one who went on to say

I think it was THAT comment that people took offense to....I never said or implied that SU products were unsatisfactory or that their demos misrepresent products...but with the above comment that you posted...you did in fact insinnuate that.

I think I cleared any misinterpetation in post 117

Not at all ....nothing of the sort...in fact I am talking about the opposite. With my company when we discover that we immediately inform one another (demos, upline, downline etc) and then we set up a plan of action to rectify the situation if it has even hit the catalogue by then. Products that are deemed unsatisfactory are deemed so long before they hit a customer's catalogue but often are deemed as such by DEMOS who use them or test them prior to selling.
No I will not do anything for a sale (couldnt have owned my own business for 16 years if I did that)...and I highly doubt that any of these SU reps would either. You dont even know me or what product I sell so you can't really reply as to my business ethics and such. But as far as SU goes lets face it, aint much that can be deemed unsatisfactory with a peice of rubber.
You are still missing the point...you want into the demo forums by any means possible...even if it means putting a friend in a tough position..and my point was..if it means that much to you. sign up as a demo. Seems simple enough

Evidently the "I would hope" and the "IF" were completely wooshed over the heads of some. I never said it IS. When one says I would hope that if------- it can hardly be taken as an accusation unless of course you are ultra-sensitive or feeling some sort of feeling of being pricked with something that rings true.
