Fairs? Stamp, craft, and Scrap stores in Michigan?
I may actually be going to Michigan during the summer to visit my boyfriend and well depending on how things go, well errr ummm I may be there permanently (as in marriage, woohahahaha ). Anyway I was wondering about Stamp, Craft stores--like Michaels or ACMoore out there? Also scrapbook stores as well.
Any dollar stores?
I know there is a Hobby Lobby out there but two hours away from Oak Park. I have found a few stray listings of stores, however my boyfriend let me know he saw a few others, but they were not listed in the craft directories I had. I am just trying to get a feel for the area, as of course it is different from southern California LOL. I have fibro and worry about the weather a lot.
Let me know. Thank you!
 Nicole

Come to the Grand Rapids area. We have the world's best scrapbooking store. It is called Pages-In-Time, and it is awesome!! There are also some great stamping stores, but I must admit that I don't visit them very often because I do most of my shopping in the SU catalog. There are Hobby Lobby , Michaels, and JoAnns all across the state.
Michigan is a great place to live, but the weather will take some getting used to after living in Calafornia. :P
We have Michaels and JoAnns all over MI. There is a scattering of Hobby Lobby. No ACMoore that I know of. I am sure there are SCSers from the Oak Park area. I cannot speak specifically about that area.
Thanks Rachel and are there are a lot of Dollar Tree or dollar stores?
I love shopping there for my Stamping on items--notebooks, dominoes, etc.
All I hear about is Hobby Lobby and how great the store is, there are no Hobby Lobby stores in CA.
I know I am partially worried about the weather because of my Fibro (Fibromyalgia). He will tell me about the weather and I get a tad worried about the snow and cold LOL.
I just want to make sure that I will like it there besides him being there
I have never lived in anywhere else but CA.
Thanks,
Nicole

It is a bit old but may get you started...I would call ahead as some may be closed. I am from Ohio, just south of Detroit and travel to Michigan to hit some of the stores. Don't know about the Doller Tree or Dollar Stores, but we have quite a few in Toledo depending where you are in Michigan. We also have Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Good Luck!

Nicole, does this mean that if you can't find some good stamping/scrapping stores, the wedding's off?
Southeastern Michigan is THE place to be. Michaels, Joanns (both in several communities), and lots of independent stamp and scrapbooking stores all over here. There is a stamp convention in Novi every summer.
Where exactly are you relocating too? That may really help narrow things down in terms of ammenities. But I think you would be very happy to have access to all the great stores in the tri-county area of Macomb, Wayne and Oakland counties.
I live in south central Michigan and love it!!! The winters are cold, but haven't been brutal so far. (I've been here 5 years.) There are lots of Scrapbook stores around and Michael's and Joann's. Like someone said before, there is a Hobby Lobby in Adrian (about an hour from me).
I used to live in Houston, which is crafting mecca - lots of choices and places to go. I have found everything I need here, and what I can't find - I order online.
All in all, I think you'd like it! I don't know about Fibro - but you could probably do some homework on that. Does cold affect it adversely?

I'm not sure where you'll be, but I'm in Toledo (about an hour's drive or so south of Detroit on I-75). The only thing about the cold that aggravates my fibro is that I tend to be less active when it's cold for a while. Then I notice the pain much more.
Back to the subject at hand, in Monroe MI there is the BEST crafts store in the universe, called CRAFTS 2000! I love it and most everything is 40% off from Micheal's retail prices. You can also purchase some things in bulk. They aren't heavy into stamping but they have a variety of things that can be used for stamping as well. If you're near that area, you won't want to miss it!
GMC I will be relocating to Oak Park area-MaComb County LOL if all goes well. I am just taking things along hehehehe and exploring the state to find out what is there before actually moving so it won't be a shock when it actually occurs hehehe...
msniece1--the cold does affect my Fibro, so this winter out here in CA has been rough, it was colder than normal. So I am not sure if it will be as bad or worse in Michigan I am needing to look at average temperatures for the state. I am just taking a look around and seeing if I will survive there lol.
My boyfriend told me all of the places that are fun to visit. He is also a stamper, so he knows of a few places but not all of them.

Here is a web page I found that might have some weather information for you. (You just need to pick a city.) I think Michigan is considerably colder than California - but there are a lot of people I have seen with that condition up here.
Good luck deciding, but while you do - have a good time in our state!
Mamalanie thank you for your post. That is exactly what happens to me when it is really cold. Then I hear about snow and freak out a little hehehe. I have seen snow and all but just never lived in it.
I will ask my boyfriend how far Monroe is from Oak Park.
I think just as long as I have some stores to run to when I miss home  I will be okay, and spending time doing some stamping and crafting, I will be fine.

Here are some stores for you to check out - all but The Peddler are in Macomb County (The Peddler is definately worth a stop if you are in the Saginaw area):
Also, check out www.auntieamy.com. That gives information about a scraping event at the Novi Expo Center the first weekend of August. Also a good place to go.
That's the good news ...
I moved to MI from VA three years ago. Adjusting to the weather has not been the easy for me. As far as I'm concerned, it's cold and damp - quite often. (Of course, a great excuse for cuddling!!!) Perhaps the worse for me is the lack of sunshine. Ugh.
Wow Thea thank you so much! I think I will do just fine in Michigan now. Lack of sunshine and the dampness and coldness will be tough to handle as in CA it is sunny a lot hehehe however I think he will help me with that (cuddling).
I actually met my boyfriend online about three years ago on a Christian forum site. We have been great friends all this time, and we finally started dating in the last year. He's the most wonderful man I have ever met. *Long sigh* LOL. We have been talking about marriage and so I decided to see if I can get a good view about the state to provide some sort of ease for me. He tells how wonderful it is out there, buuuut I needed to find out for myself and then visit there, and we will take it from there. I'll keep y'all updated! Hehehe. Anyway he owns a home and a few businesses out there, and I am willing to move over there as it is more inexpensive to live there than over here in CA. I know there are no Disneylands or Six Flags Magic Mountains hehehe. I just know that it will be a BIG change for me as I have never lived outside of CA.
Thea I will PM you more later.
Lots and lots of craft stores out there! Yay! Thank you!
