Underappreciated Co-Worker
Hi Ladies;
I was hoping you gals could help me with some ideas. I have a co-worker who is very under appreciated. I know this, because for the next 2 days she's gone on vacation and I'm doing her job. Today alone I realized how badly we need her there every day. I want to make her something to let her know that she is very valuable to all of us and to thank her for all she does to keep the rest of us floating through the work week. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and pictures are MORE than welcome :mrgreen: Thanks so much in advance. I know you ladies will come up with some awesome ideas!

I don't have any pictures, but I have seen some cards where animals are stacked one on top of another. If you have a stamp like that (or could make an similar image by masking), you could put on the inside--"we never realized how much we depend on you to do our job. Thanks for supporting us!"
Or stamp a bunch (bouquet) of pretty flowers, then cut one out of the middle. Put white behind it. On the inside write "We never realized how much the rest of this bunch would miss you! We are sure glad you are back."

What kind of job is it? That might help with ideas.

My gut reaction says alter a clipboard. Something she can keep around the office to be proud of.

It's an office job... but there's a million things going on all at the same time... and she makes it look so easy. I mean I've seen her have her moments, but most of the time she makes it look effortless...We've got about 50 faxes coming in at one time every 5-10 minutes or so, plus phones, and walk-in customer, plus finding the files for the guys in the warehouse to pull, and dealing with all of us who are still learning how to do our jobs.........
I already made her a postit note holder using coasters... and that got tossed in the drawer at work... never to be seen or heard from again. I was thinking of maybe making her a stationery set so that when her brother goes back to Iraq she will have something to send him... but not sure that's the way I want to go either... can't really afford to get her gift certificates... so I came here :cool:

Um - not to put a downer on this but if the post it note holder just went into the drawer I'm not certain I would spend too much time on some OTT special. Is she one for displaying cards - I know I used to get postcards from my team and would keep them up around my monitor etc. I think the card set for her to send to someone is a nice touch.

How about something like a nice card but then getting everyone in the office to sign it? This way everyone can join in on the appreciation and maybe it will help everyone notice how much she does for them.
Kudos to you for thinking of her!

I agree about everyone signing a card for her, and I like the animals stacked or the flowers, you all have neat ideas. maybe and a good card set made like this one. The instructions for that set are here. And there are great pictures in the instructions with another color scheme. I make these as gifts for people and stamp them with 3 thank you, 3 happy birthday, and 3 thinking of you cards.

Because she put the post it note in the drawer doesn't mean she doesn't appreciate it. That's where I leave my post it notes. They get dusty on top of my desk. Anything of value goes into my desk.

Sorry, I didn't really word myself well.
I think anyone likes to be appreciated and I find it difficult to come up with a gift for anyone let alone someone I don't know well (well, even people I DO know well). However, in my experience, quite often, highly organized individuals don't like visual clutter and unfortunately our crafting would probably categorize into this category. Maybe I read more into the post it note statement than was there.
I thought about a beaded pen and then thought if it were like my last workplace it would get borrowed and never returned. Then I thought about something like a starbucks giftcards but it seems the poster doesn't want to go that root. If she isn't on a diet or diabetic maybe the nuggets and each one stamped with a different appreciation.

It is so nice of you to want to do something for her. At my office, the gift most appreciated was CHOCOLATE! How 'bout a simple 2468 box with dove choc in it. Then if she's not so much into stamping she will admire the box & after the candy is gone, she'll toss it (you can always sneak it out of her trash if need be...) but IF that happens you'll know that it didn't take you hours to make it so it'll be ok. I am a huge fan of the 2468 box, they are easy & non-stampers think you went to a huge amount of trouble!
