Default Question about back of cards for sale

DH and I are at odds about this. I am in a craft show in November and this is the first time I'm selling cards. Our question is, I have a "Handstamped by" stamp and I would sign it Karen, but should I put my phone number on it too?

DH said if someone is giving one of my cards to someone, they may not want my phone number on the back. Where I see it as, they will be giving this card to someone who if they like the card, may call me to make some for them.

What do you guys think?

I personally would never send a card that had anyone else's phone number out, and really I'm not sure I would if it had their name on it.

I would just stick with the Stampin' Up required logo, and maybe your name if you really feel you want it there.

I don't know. If I was buying it, I wouldn't want too much bulk on the back. If it was very small it might be ok. I would much prefer a website but you may not have one. I do hope you sell a ton of them no matter what you decide. Best of luck!

My vote (before I read Jen's suggestion) is for a website and leave it at that. You could print up a tiny label for them. HTH

GOOD LUCK!

No phone, if I were to rec. the card, I would want it signed on back, first name or initials, I think of them as art and i like my art signed by artist.

I too would never put my ph # on the back of a card no matter who it's for. If they like your work, they can always ask the person who gave them the card how to get in touch with you.

I say go ahead with the handstamped and your name but make lots of business cards that way if someone wants to get ahold of you they can.

I tend to agree with the above posters....no phone#, but maybe a website. I definitely think you should sign them though....they are mini works of art and deserve a signature....Good Luck at the craft fair, hope you sell a ton!

Karen I think there are too many weirdos out there to risk one of them getting your phone number for a chance that someone will place a card order.

Hallmark puts their logo on the backs of their cards, and handcrafted cards are art, so I don't personally have any issues with someone discreetly signing the back where Hallmark would put their logo, or using a handstamped by stamp. Even a website or email address (gmail or hotmail or something like that) would be fine from my view, but would be even better on a business card. I would protect your phone number, tho, as that has direct implications for your family's safety and peace of mind.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think I'll go with the business card and as my cards grow, then get into a website.

I had a stamp made up which has my company name and my email address. I stamp this on the backs of all cards I make and then I also have the copyright info to add as well. People buy store cards all the time with a ton of info on the back. I figure as long as its neat and professional, I should too.

Just remember that if you do publish your regular home phone #, folks can do a reverse search on one of the web white page sites and get your home address...

To be honest I think it is wishful thinking that the receiver would place a card order. After assuming that the receiver has the same taste in cards as the buyer, you are then assuming that the receiver would live somewhat locally in order to avoid further issues/expenses in shipping and accepting remote methods of payment (cheques, credit cards, money orders).

I think it is much more likely that the buyer of the cards might order more, after all they liked them enough to buy them in the first place. In which case the business card idea is much better than putting so much on the back of a card that it detracts from it's beauty, especially if it is only a 5 1/2 by 4 1/2 card.

I sell a lot of cards and simply put a simple Hand stamped angel stamp on the back...

I find that some people like to pass off handmade cards as thier own and therefore prefer simple on the back...the last craft show I did I had someone come over and immediately flip my card over and then promptly bought 20 cards...there was someone else who was also selling handmade cards but her cards had a signature on the back and the person didn't like that...

I always include a simple business card with my information on it - and I tell those that buy my cards I do sell year-round and can customize cards and items for just about any occassion.

Marina, I must repsectfully disagree. I have received some of my largest orders from people who received my cards and contacted me through the info on the back of my card. This is a business and I treat it as such. I am upfront as to what I place on my cards (although I usually don't put the info on the backs of wedding cards) and have never received complaints from people that the back was ruined (nor did it stop them from ordering from me again - including yearly repeats at craft fairs).

And to play devil's advocate, if you leave your catty's in places of business etc, what kind of contact info do you put on the catty so they can order from you? I've seen people put both their phone number and home address. How is this different?

I have a very small label on the back of mine that says Handmade by and then my email address - it's smaller than most of the blurb you usually get on the back of a store bought card and I thought it was safer than putting my phone number.

I do also have business cards that have both my email and phone number (mobile only) and I give these to people who buy from me at craft fairs or people who spend a long time looking but don't always buy something. Quite often people will say to me they like my cards but don't have any special occassions coming up or have only just bought a card for such and such so I give them a card and tell them I can make personalised cards for any occasion.

I like the idea of Handstamped by and my email address with business cards. Thanks for the advice. I knew I would get great and honest answers here.

I wanted to have and email or website with the custom handstamped stamp, but there is not enough room.

I have the copyright tag stamp from SU and have my phone number. I've used it since it was available (couple years?) and have never had one crank call.

Go for it and sell lots!
