Default Crystal Effects, UTEE, & Pearl Ex...where???

Hey Eveerybody, I was at Hobby Lobby last night (our only local place to shop) and I lokoed for Crystal Effects, UTEE, and Pearl Ex. I could only find UTEE and it was in a huge bottle for $11. Since I have never used any of these before, I didn't really want to buy such a huge bottle. Anyway, where should I look for these? I was in the stamping section and I saw several colors of embossing powders and also something called Perfect Pearls, but that was it. Can anyone direct me? The people there are NOT helpful, and if I ask for help, I will leave there in a huff...and really just want to be happy-happy today. Thanks everyone. I appreciate any help. And, if I should just go to Michael's...that's fine, too. It's just an hour away and I won't be able to go for a while. That's ok. Thanks!

Crystal Effects is available through your Stampin' Up! demonstrator.

UTEE, well, if you're gonna do it, you'll go through a lot of it, due to its chunky nature, so it makes sense for it to be sold in large bottles.

Pearl Ex is available both in retail stores and through your SU! demonstrator, altho each may be in different color configurations as far as "sets" of Pearl Ex colors go. It is a loose pearlescent pigment, not an embossing powder.

Perfect Pearls is a similar product, but in more of a cake form, I believe?

I have PEx, because I prefer having it loose, as I think it gives me a few more options in application.

HTH,

I have both Perfect Pearls and Pearl-Ex, and they're almost the same thing. The main difference is that Perfect Pearls has a fixative mixed in with the pearl powder, so if you want to use it as a watercolor-type paint, you only have to mix it with water. If you want to use Pearl-Ex that way, you need to add gum arabic to the pearl powder; otherwise when the water dries, the powder just falls off. Also, in theory, if you use the Perfect Pearls with the Perfect Adhesive pad they come with, you aren't supposed to have to spray your piece with fixative. I always do anyway, though.

With the Pearl-Ex some of the colors seem to be composed of bigger particles. With the Perfect Pearls, all of the ones I have seem more uniform - a very fine powder. It does seem that the Perfect Pearls are more likely to work themselves under the lid of the jar; everytime I open one I lose just a little bit of powder that sneaks out from around the threads.

I don't find one to be any better than the other; I just use whichever color calls to me. I do have to say, though, that it's almost worth the price of the Perfect Pearls just to get the brushes that come with the set. I haven't found anything anywhere that works as well for applying both kinds!

Default Thanks!!!

Thanks gals. You are both just full of info! I love this site. I am completely new to stampin and Stampin' Up...so I guess that it didn't really occur to me to check the catalog. My best friend just signed up to sell, so I guess I'll wait until she's official. Thanks girls, I will be working on my patient gene for awhile.
