I believe it has...a few years ago I bought a used set of Suitable for Framing here. When it arrived, it wasn't the set I thought it was, though it had the same name. Evidently, that was a really OLD Suitable for Framing, and another set had been produced later with the same name. At least I think that's the one/name...

Actually, it was the cute little card from the new Forest Friends set of the fawn standing on the frozen pond that caught my eye in the "recent uploads" when you first go to galleries. How stinkin' cute is that?! Then I saw that the index was the old one.
I love both sets so it's kind of fun to see samples of both in the gallery here.
Naming of stamp sets has always been an interesting thing to me - and with so many floral/flower, blooms/blooming/bloom, going on, it seemed that at some point they would end up repeating a name.

actually, this isn't the first time SU! has reused a stamp set name.
the backgrounds Rachel mentioned were actually different: paisley and paisley print. however, there are two border builders, background basics, butterfly (one was a wheel), choo choo, dots & daisies (one was a wheel), festive Hanukkah (one was a wheel), friendship gardens, fun flowers, happy birthday, heart blocks (one was a wheel), old fashioned Christmas, and scatter sunshine (one was a wheel)... i may have missed a few.
also, my list doesn't include several that were nearly identical, like Christmas cardinal and Christmas cardinals.
I have the original Forest Friends set. When I saw the new cutsie set with the same name I had to check my set to see if they weren't the same name. Yup. There were two sets named "Framed Fun". They were very different. They are both long retired. I always wondered why SU would name sets the same thing. Don't they keep an index somewhere that they can refer to so they don't do this? Makes it confusing if you want to buy one of these sets from someone online, especially if there is no photo. You have to make sure you get what you intended.

Well, glory be and knock me over with a feather!!
I've only been aware of SU for about 2-1/2 years, and I think if it had been longer I would have been confused a whole lotta times LOL!!
I am no longer impressed by their level of creative name-choosing. Hmmph.
Flowers In Bloom from '97/'98 is one of my absolute favorite sets, and is the first one I noticed which shares its name with a contemporary set. Give me a break. I would think it would be easy enough to keep an alphabetical list handy for those who name new sets.
But, they have started putting the item number on the clear label that you put on the outside of the box. Also, they always have the year the stamp set came out on the labels that you put on each stamp. I would agree that if you are buying online, that you need to be careful. I suspect that SU isn't too worried about people buying used sets. They're in the buiness of selling new ones.

I believe SU does not put the copyright year on the sticker for each stamp anymore which kindof bums me out. I liked that I could pick up my stamps and go to a retired catty and look at the entire set. However, I do get my inventory list from Cat which tells me which catty, what page, when it retired, ect.....
Cat - so glad you posted! I am a long time inventory customer, got my update today and was going through it (very slowly) after seeing this thread. You really know you stuff!!!!!

I did not realize that. Hmmm. That would bum me out too.

i'm thinking they quit doing this since the sets are released in different countries during different catalog years. for example, build-a-roo was released in the AUS/NZ catalog before it was released in the US/CAN catalog.
