Default zero comment cards

I love making cards, and I love to share on here, because I have gotten so many wonderful ideas and techniques. I notice though that some really pretty cards have zero comments (as well as many of my own). I thought maybe if others would like to join in, we could leave one another a comment on cards that have none. Everyone puts in time, effort, and cost to make these, from simple to elaborate! Maybe it'll make someone's day, and keep them inspired to keep going.

Anyone up for joining in?

How about anyone who posts in this area. If there's not anyone, then maybe start from the last page of the daily gallery posts, since they'd be here longer than the recent uploads. Just a thought, unless someone has a better idea.

I always try to leave comments on a card that I click on for a closer look. I know a lot of people think it takes too long to comment, but a few seconds could make someone's day.

ITA - I have just started my gallery and have very few comments. Even if the post isn't necessarily great but honest it would help. How are we suppose to know if we are wasting time with this hobby if we are not any good at it I don't trust my DH to tell me anything about my cards.

when you upload your card on the first page of the upload process down toward the lower right there is a box for you to check if you want to be notified by email when a new comment is left for that upload.

for cards you have already uploaded, you can click on the card in your gallery and at the bottom where you have put the card info there is a link you can click on for "receive email updates".

I try to write comments on most of the cards I view, but I really dislike doing it at night. It takes forever for a comment to load. It took me 30 minutes tonight to comment on possibly 8 cards. In the morning, like at 6AM, it's a lot faster.

I try to comment on anything I favorite or click on for a closer look. Sometimes it's a bummer to upload something you love and not get any comments.... especially when someone favs it. There are a couple of comment threads out there that are kind of fun. Sometimes it's a fun way to find a great gallery that you've never seen before. There are soooo many SCSers and sooooo many cards that you'd never see them otherwise.

Thanks for the reminder to share our happy card thougths with each other!

I have a hard time sleeping so I love to travel through new galleries to pass the time. I have seen so many beautiful cards this way. Sometimes I go to the days uploads and start in the back and comment on as many cards as my eyes will let me. Tonight I'm going to travel through all the galleries above and I'm sure it will be a wonderful trip.

My take on this subject is you have to do things for yourself and not do them to get atta boys. It would be totally impossible for everyone who views these cards, quite possibly 500 a day, to stop and make comments on everyone of them. When you create a card and put your very best foot forward, you know inside of yourself that you have done your best. The flipside of that coin is, when you put something out for critique, quite possibly you will not get the positive comments you are looking for if you are putting yourself in the position of determining your value through others. I, for instance, would never post something I had cased from Zyndorf and then sit back and wait for the ohh's and ahh's. I know I will never have that artistic ability but I also know practice makes perfect and all of us who pick up our art supplies and sit down to create something on paper are far ahead of many.

One observation I've made is that I tend to get comments when I do challenges, and very rarely do when I just post cards to the gallery. I think that's because they are not linked anywhere and are just floating in the gallery. While I'm sure some people browse the latest creations, cards just get more views when they are linked somewhere.

I have some great cards with no comments and some okay cards with an incredibly high number of comments.

I like this idea as well and have thought about this many times. It would be nice if every card had at least one comment. ;)

I'm so sad when I see a really nice card in the gallery next to a card made by a designer...sometimes the designer card isn't always better than the other one but the designer has like 40 comments and this other one sits there with no comments...Then I try to leave a comment on the no comment card...

I never thought of actually 'trying' the challenges to get comments on cards.... maybe I will have to try that instead of just posting a card. Thanks, I love comments too

I just had to comment on this...

Comments sometimes are not what they appear. A lot of the regular partcipaters in the daily challenges sort of pat each other on the back in exchange for positive feedbacks. If you look at the cards that have been submitted for challenges, versus the ones that have not...the challenge cards have more comments on them HANDS DOWN. I'm not saying that those who participate in challenges, when they comment, that they're not being sincere...but sometimes, it's rather transparent what's going on, in light of other cards that are uploaded that are deserving of comments but end up with none.

Take it all with a grain a salt. If you enjoy your craft, and enjoy looking at other cards in the gallery, try not to make any comparisons, including feedback. And remember, one doesn't need a comment to be a valid cardmaker.

There may be some that do the challenges just to pat eachother on the backs. I do the challenges and mostly comment on challenge cards but not for that reason. I do the challenges because without the challenges, I get stale or into a rut with my stamping, (I have been stamping for 20 years). The challenges give me something new to try or a new color combination, or an interesting layout or a remind me to use something that I have forgotten I had or have been hoarding. The reason I comment mostly on challenge cards, is limited time. Between working full time, raising 4 kids, leading cubscouts...crafting, my time is limited. I usually look at the challenge cards, because seeing what others did with the challenges is interesting to me. That's my perspective.

I've got plenty of challenge cards in my gallery with absolutely no comments or only one or two, so...

I guess that I need to reiterate what I originally said. I am merely saying that there are regular daily challenge participaters (and I'm not saying that this is everyone who engages in SCS challenges, because that's certainly not the case), that routinely comment on each other's cards. And when they are doing that just to get a comment, then the comment, to me is disingeuous. My point is this...

When some cards are loaded with comments, that doesn't mean that their cards are ready for magazine printing...that sometimes, things are not what they appear. That was my point.

I also wanted to comment on the last poster's comment about doing challenges and not getting a comment. That happens...but there is a circle of regular challenge participants who engage in what I was previously talking about, and if anyone disagrees, then, they're in denial.

Getting back to the original poster's comment...not getting a comment is not failure. That's my point. If you enjoy cardmaking and others that you send your cards to, enjoy them...then isn't that all that really matters?

I'm just trying to do a pay it forward kind of thing. I didn't think anyone would take it as "fishing" for comments. Sorry if it was taken that way. I'm not saying to go through 500+ cards EVERY day either. I don't have time for that. I also am not trying to get validation of being a card maker. I've made my own cards since I was a kid AS A KIND GESTURE for thank yous, I love you's, etc.

I was trying to do something positive and had thought about this for a while. I've went to the critique threads for my own cards too to seek improvements, as someone will always have a niftier idea than me. That's how I get better. I've done a couple challenges, and they have been my best cards IMO. I just don't always have time or ideas to participate.

I'm thankful for this site, and EVERYONE who posts. Otherwise, I wouldn't have all the cool craft toys that I have, or learned some of the techniques that have become my favorites.

I think it is wonderful that you want to give validation to others. I know that getting comments on cards from SCS ladies is nice. I appreciate the comments that people leave me because if I ask my kids or my DH, they smile and say that's nice. I could have taken a piece of paper and drawn a big x with a red marker and would get the same response. If you know what I mean. But I don't get upset if I don't get comments, because I like my cards and that is ultimately who I have to please.

Oh, I don't get upset if I don't get comments either. I am glad to share my ideas, or share my changes on another person's idea.
My husband will barely look at a card and say it's nice most of the time. Other times he says I should start a card shop.
The recipients of the cards are usually thrilled with them, and knowing they liked the special effort is enough for me.

Jen, I like the fur babies on your blog. So cute. It is nice to know that I'm not alone with the husband thing.

I just love making cards! I have always been told I am creative, and now I really can make use of that ability! I enjoy this craft very much, it releives stress, it keeps me busy and happy. I totally need to feed my addiction for supplies too and find that just as fun! I really enjoy the bargain hunting for cool supplies too! It's just so satisfying! I love to look at galleries for ideas and I bounce all over the place looking. I will leave comments on cards that catch my eye. I tend to be long winded though, so I keep my gallery visits short, or I would be on SCS 24/7!!
This is a neat idea! So much talent out there and the creativity always blows me away!!

Like everyone else, I have limited time. . .
HOWEVER I make it a practice to check out the daily Gallery additions each day I am on SCS and post on at least 3 cards that have zero comments. I am truly amazed at the gorgeous work I see that has not been commented on. You guys rock and I admire so much of it - wish I could comment more.

Not to stir the pot... this is an honest question. I sometimes look for no-comment cards to try to comment on. But, if you truly don't really care for the card (not that it's a bad card - this is all highly personal and different people have different tastes), do you still comment? I typically do not, but was just curious if others run in to this.
