Anyone know of a good, easy to use - relatively inexpensive (I'm thinking under $300 if possible) printer that will print on 12 x 12 cardstock? My printer is on the way out and thought that might be a good option to use for scrapbooking and such......especially since I bought the journaling cd's when they were on sale and still don't use them much!
We have the Canon i9900. DH had to have it to print construction schedules out on 11 x 17 paper, so the added benefit was me getting to print 12x12 on it as well! Just remember to set the paper for heavyweight matte finish or whatever your software lets you pick that's close to that.

I have an Epson 1280...the full name is Epson Stylus Photo 1280. it is serval years old, so it is inexpensive now and you can get them through Epson website...I am a HUGE Epson fan. (See post about scanners.)
My mom is a professional photographer and she says Epson is better because it uses more separate inks for better color. My cartridges have 6 ink wells, rather than 3 or 4. The pictures I print are fantastic. Plus, on this machine you can print until the cartridge is completely empty, even in the middle of a picture...you just replace it and it will resume where it left off with no visible mark. (Maybe they all do that, I don't know.)
The Epson 1280 prints on paper as large as 13 x 19, for wall photos. (I scanned a black and white 8 x 10 photo from my wedding album and reprinted it for our wall...it turned out fantastic!) If you have a scanner, you can use a software program, such as Arc Soft's Panorama Maker to scan 12 x 12 pages and reprint them seamlessly.
I hope that helps. (I swear I don't work for Epson...I just believe if you are going to spend the $$, do it for good quality, especially when it comes to our photos and memories. I guess I just take my mom's word on it, but she really does research these things for her work.)

Oh, one more thing...You really should use Epson Paper with Epson printers...they have 12 x 12 scrapbooking cardstock that is great...and they have and 8.5 x 11 double sided photo quality cardstock that also prints beautifully on both sides!

Just went to Costco's websight and they have the 1280S Epson printer for $364.99 with a $100 rebate bringing it down to $264.99. I really need one that prints on a 12X12 piece of cardstock and this one sounds great. If anyone can find it cheaper let me know please. We can start a price war here in the thread.:rolleyes:

THat is a fantastic price...I think it was almost $500 when it first came out...we waited until another year after that during a huge sale because that was so high. That was many years ago.

This sounds soo neat, but I still don't want to spend that much money (I know call me cheap) I will keep watching for the prices to keep falling though! Thanks for the great information!
Doesn't Lexmark make one? Pretty sure I've seen one advertised "especially for scrapbooking" that prints 12x12. You might check their website. I recall both Target and Walmart carrying it.
My sister had a Lexmark (not 12x12) and *hated* it because the ink dried out so fast in the cartridges that every single time she used it, the print heads were clogged with dried ink. She used it maybe once or twice a week and at this frequency of use the ink was drying out. If you used it more often, then maybe this problem wouldn't affect you. I for one have never heard from a happy personal Lexmark customer, and stick with the bigger name brands myself.
When I began researching printers I also saw a Epson Stylus Photo printer R1800 that prints BorderFree prints in 4x6, 5x7, 8x10,12x12, 11x14 and 13x19. Most printers allow for a cardstock setting. This might be an option for you. I am partial to HP myself, so I am still looking. ;-)

I have always had a Lexmark (not 12x12) and never had a problem with the ink drying up on me. I don't print pictures with it though because I prefer my smaller photo printer for printing at home when a picture is needed that minute.
I also have a Canon i9900 but you wanted to keep the price under $300, which this one isn't. I do love it though. It has 8 ink cartridges and is a 'photo' printer. When one colour runs out, you only need to replace one cartridge. It's not a cheap printer to run though, I should be taking my 4x6's to Walmart but it's so convenient to do them at home, but it costs well over 50 cents to do. But the pictures are better than the ones done at Walmart and I can crop them easier and don't have to save them all on a disk and I don't have to drive there or wait for them to be printed.
Regardless of which printer you get, always use that companies ink and paper. You will be happier if you do.
