Craft Room Paint Color - HELP!

My new craft room is in our basement and I am trying to decide on a paint color. I am looking for a light, spa-like gray/blue color. I've already bought 3 paint samples and....no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

We just painted our basement a beautiful blue: Cool Sky #530E-2 a BEHR paint. I purchased one of those small trial jars of it as I was afraid that being in the basement it wouldn't look right. Well, it looks gorgeous. Good luck! I knwo how difficult it is to get just the right color.

Have your tried going to Behr.com?

I'm going to be painting my craft room an Aqua Blue color. I'm trying to decide between a few colors. All of my samples are from my Cardstock collection!

Do you have any DP or cardstock that's the color you're looking for? If so, then maybe you could take it to the paint store for a color match! All that paper must be good for something!!! :D :D :D

I was JUST looking through my SU samples and I think what I'm looking for apparently is somewhere between Bordering Blue and Buckaroo Blue! :D

I bet your room will be beautiful. My DH is not crazy about blue, so I have to find a color he could tolerate. I like aqua, but my husband would have a rooster if I painted my room that color.

How did it turn out? I checked the color out at Behr.com. I think the next color down (Sonata) might be more what I'm looking for. All three samples I have tried so far turned out to be too light, so I'm going to get something this time that I think will be way too dark...lol.

I did not try the Sonata--that was my second choice if the Cool sky didn't work. Can you get just a small jar of each? On another note, I see your Buffett quote. Are you a parrothead? We all are.

We painted our son's room Timber Wolf Gray and it is a very deep gray. It looks very nice. I told my husband that when and if our son gets a place of his own, pink bedding and curtains will look very pretty in there for another guest room. His room has two 4x6 windows. The ceiling and all the trim is white, so the dark gray looks very good.

He was born near my neck of the woods (Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast) and spends a lot of time in the area. I have loved Buffett since I was around 10. We are all definitely Parrotheads in this house. Even my daughter loves him. I bought her a CD called "Parakeet" with cleaned up versions of his songs sung by children...lol.

I think I might have found my color. It's an Eddie Bauer paint called Linden. I think it has just the right combo of blue and gray. I'm going to head to Lowe's tomorrow morning for a sample can and try it out.

When you apply the paint, be sure to let us know if it is just right. I love the feeling when the room is finished and you say, "Wow, this is just what I wanted it to look like!"

We have been parrotheads for years. We started going to Buffett concerts many, many years ago as a family. This will be the first year we don't go to a Buffett concert. Since we couldn't get tickets, we are having a tailgate party with friends that night. I was a preschool director a number of years ago and I purchased the Parakeet CD for the school. All the kids knew Cheeseburger in Paradise. Our granddaughter who will be 5 this month is a Parakeet! She loves Fins--you should see her doing it--LOL! Well, happy painting. Gail

I've saved this link (not your side of the world), but it is handy to view colour charts provided and get ideas on colours you want to use.
Paint Colour Charts here. If you find something you like, print it off (check to see it prints out most similar to online) and take it with you to the store.

They can tint paints (add this to a base colour) to match your colour sample.

:)

We just finished a craft room in the basement for me, and I worked for quite a while to narrow it down to my perfect idea of blue. I didn't want it to lean toward "hospital blue/green." I wanted intense but not overwhelming. Calming, but obvious color. I have no windows and we put in two 4-ft shop lights with 2 bulbs each ("daylight" fluorescents).

I just LOVE the way it all turned out!!!! Here are some pix. If you like the color, it's Wal-Mart's ColorPlace "Blue Sonata."

The pix actually look darker than it really is...

HTH! ;-) Most of all have FUN!!!! ;-)

Thanks for the link! One of the first samples I pulled out was called "Burple"...lol. I like the pale cornflower too.

I love your color and I REALLY love your craft room! It's so nice and bright, you'd never know it has no windows.

Choc0holic 07-08-2009 09:16 PM

I'm excited to see if you like the color you chose...it's gorgeous...on my monitor at least. It looks like it would coordinate very nicely with the curtains I have hung in my craft room. You've given me the itch to paint something!

I haven't read all the responses, but I chose Waverly's Beach House for my craft room. Depending on the light, it's sometimes bluish, sometimes greenish, sometimes grayish. It's very calming and relaxing (especially compared to the Sunshine Yellow with stenciled black smiley faces it was before!) and I couldn't be happier. I used Dairy Cream to paint the baseboards and door trim.
Good luck and let us know what you choose.

Restoration Hardware has some great color combos...here. They don't have many to choose from but they are kind of like Copics..they go together well. The quality is excellent as well.

Oh, I like that color! I can see how it would be an improvement over bright yellow/smiley faces for sure, though right now, my walls are white, white, white. I don't know which is worse :)

Weird, all the times I've visited that site, I never knew they had paint. I liked Shore! This is why I've had such a hard time picking paint--too many beautiful choices.

"Shore" is a great combination. That's what we used in our kitchen, and a year later, we're still loving it!

tay0479 07-09-2009 05:47 AM

If you had CS in a color you liked you could tape it to the walls in several places to find out if you like it and how the light hits it. As we all know it may look great with the morning sun but come dusk it looks mucky. Good luck. It always took me months to choose the color I loved.

Thanks! I love it too--fun to be in there and "lose" myself! ;-)

I don't have any suggestions, but wanted to say good luck!

My fiance and I moved into a basement apartment in January, and our craft room as well as our hallway is painted a colour that I can only describe as "slaughterhouse red"... it's HIDEOUS!!!

We're finally done unpacking/putting stuff away, so painting is next on the agenda. It's hard to find a good colour for a room with no windows, that's for sure. I think the bluish spa colour looks very pretty with chocolate chip brown accents. It's what my Mom did in her bathroom and it looks GREAT!

Yikes on your current color. I can see why you'd want to paint right away. I like red, but mabye in a dining room, certainly not in the basement--it's too dark a color, I think. I like the blue/chocolate colors together too. I love my room now, but I know it will feel more like "home" once I paint it. I think when we all post pics of our craft rooms, we should include the paint colors in the keywords so that people like me can take a peek to get color ideas ;)

Good luck on making your new home "yours"!

inkmonkey19 07-10-2009 12:17 PM

That is the exact color I picked out for our master bedroom three years ago, and I love it as much today as I did then! It kind of reminds me of Baja Breeze in the right light. :) It looks terrific with all of our dark brown furniture too.
