Default Layering dies with many layers

I just watched Jennifer McGuire's video on layer dies. The cards she created are beautiful as always.
However, I wouldn't invest in the dies since they are too expensive, and IMHO not very versatile.
Plus, after all the layers (5- are assembled and added to a heavy weight cardbase makes for a pretty heavy card.
I'm glad to see her design a mini slimline card (3 1/2 x 6 1/4). I've been making that size for years.

I totally agree about the versatility, or rather, lack thereof. I have one set of the Birch Press dies, which are the joined/overlapping triangles. I am able to get different looks with them, plus they were on sale.

I loved the Christmas ornaments they came out with this year, but again too costly and not enough ways to use them.

If I absolutely loved all three dies in the set enough to use them separately, then the cost *might* be justified. I say "might" because I've never spent more than $15 for a die -- at least not yet.

I thought many of Jennifer McGuire's layered cards were beautiful, really classy looking. Though a couple reminded me of the 1960's psychodelic, tie-dye era, which does not appeal to me. I'm terrible at choosing colors that work together so I'd probably end up with finished products that look tacky as opposed to classy.

Birch press are really expensive. They do have a couple of small tile sets at 12.99

Other companies are starting to have them. ..I cant remember but I know I saw them...if I do I will come back.

I bought a few layered panel sets in the Silhouette Store. The files were MUCH cheaper than those really expensive die sets. If you buy the SVG version as well, which costs only about 10 cents more, you can use them in your Cricut or other electronic machines.

I only have one die by Birch Press, and I won that in a giveaway. It's part of a layered set but I only have one layer, which can stand alone as well. Otherwise, their dies are too expensive and most of them seem to be layered dies that are supposed to combine with two other layers. I don't know why they designed them that way because I can't imagine too many crafters wanting to pay that much for the full set of 3. They also own Memory Box and Poppy Stamps, which are much more reasonable and have designs that I prefer.

It is a really nice concept/look imho. I like it a lot but too rich for my blood. And if you think about how much a full plate cover die costs (not uncommon to be 20-25) 75 for a 3 pc set seems sort of in line I suppose, but it is still 75 or whatever bucks at a clip. The first sets were like mandela designs so you could put a variety of sentiments on them.

Memory box has been doing layers for awhile...like the tree sets that are 2-3 pcs separately. Not quite the same look but the cost ends up still being high unless you catch a good sale. I did invest in one of those when they got older and went on a good sale.
