I think I will come back next year... knowing ahead of time how many swaps I need.. I think I'm gonna start now, and take my chances with "retiring stuff"!!!! At least I'll have enough then/ :-D
Is there a list of hotels, or suggestions from years past, that are near the Salt Palace - assuming that is where they hold it in '08?
I stayed at the Marriott with a sideline, which is immediately across the street thinking that I would have my 6 month old with me, but then dh surprised me and took him as well as our 2 other children while I attended Convention. The Marriott was great especially with the location.
Other hotels- Radisson, Shilo Inn. I know there are more, but those are the ones that come immediately to mind.
Here is a link that shows you a list of hotels around the Salt Palace.
OK, so the time it was in SLC... wasn't there alot of problems with the motels and such, like no hot water, or air conditioning on some days?? or a power outage or something.... remember a thread about stampin in the hallways...(or maybe that was a song...lol) Where (motel) was everyone the most happiest??
I've been to the SU! convention in SLC 3x: 1999, 2005 & 2006. I've been to every convention in between. There's ALWAYS issues with the hotels at every venue. Shelli's had cold showers in Vegas both times we were there if I remember right.
I do know that the Shiloh Inn wouldn't be my first pick based on what I've heard during all three visits. In SLC, more than most places, the elevators stop because we try to get too many of us in there!
My advice to those of you swapping....USE CURRENT PRODUCT! Everyone likes to get a swap they can share with their customers. I'd hate to see your beautiful work end up in a box somewhere because the item was retired even b4 you traded it.
Thanks Ann for posting... Just trying to remember... with reading the motel posts here, it seems things are going better in Denver... I remembered alot of posts of unhappiness in SLC one year...
This is the first Convention I've missed. It just didn't work out this year with childcare for my two boys while I was gone. We also just spent a huge amount of money to landscape our backyard so the boys can actually play out there.
I'm going next year! My 5th anniversary with SU is tomorrow, so I'll (finally) be walking on stage.
Question for ya...are demos allowed to take guests to convention?
The short answer is no.
You may take your supporting demonstrator (your spouse) but only if you both pay the registration fee. You cannot bring any other type of guest to the convention daytime events.
There has been evening entertainment and you can purchase a ticket for that for a guest. I have been to 3 conventions and my DH came with to the entertainment the first year. It was in Vegas and they had this awesome "voice impersonator" who could sing like Celine Dion and Elvis and a bunch of other singers- he was a guy but hit Celene's highest notes!! DH enjoyed that.

One thing to remember about retiring products in our swaps for convention next year is that there will be 2 retiring lists before then!!! Just something to think about on those who are trying to get a head start!
"Convention will be held in SLC July 30 - August 2 next year! "
I never post here at SCS, but I read so many threads and enjoy all the samples. I feel compelled to reply to this post, as I am rather upset to see that someone posted this after Shelli SPECIFICALLY requested last night that we NOT share this info with anyone until after the Second Session heard it, too.
For at least the past two years, Session One attendees were not given the actual dates to the following Convention, only the location. The dates were saved as a small special announcement perk to Session Two attendees.
Since someone chose to "spill the beans" already, I hope that Shelli has saved another exciting announcement for the second group.
I'm not meaning to be a pot-stirrer, but this just bothered me. I had hoped that everyone would stay quiet till later next week. I suppose this is why many things are not announced at Convention any longer since the info gets out before the second session even begins.
The great thing about returning to one session is that no one has to end up feeling like they got sloppy seconds where announcements are concerned. Then again, I am sure there will be many who will continue to complain about the fact that Convention is in Salt Lake again. Poor Corporate can't seem to catch a break no matter how hard they might try. Thank goodness they just keep trying!
Welcome to the Forum, not to flame you in anyway, but it seems nowadays the second it is out of Shelli's mouth, we know. Thanks to the iPhones!
If you don't want to know spoilers I guess don't read these until after your session? Don't mean to be harsh but with todays technology, my customers are learning stuff about our company before I even know!
I get salty over it, but it's survival of the fittest, so I find it a challange to learn the info as fast as I can and get it to them.

Bonny, I totally understand how you feel.
That made me a little sad, too.
Passing on info that Shelli specifically asked us to keep to ourselves for a couple days (only till second sessioners heard it from her themselves!) is a matter of honor, not technology.

I am sorry if I "spilled the beans" first. I was simply answering a question that someone had asked previously. I did NOT hear Shelli say to keep that to ourselves or I would have. I was up in line getting a cd and all I saw was the dates on the screen and then heard her say it would be one session. This was my first Convention - so I am sorry I didn't know the protocol. Guess I will keep everything I learn to myself from now on....
On the other hand - I also have to agree with Jacki - if there is something you don't want to know - then you shouldn't be reading the spoiler threads. There is a TON of information that gets leaked out before it is announced.

You did not upset me Chrissie!!
I knew not to come in if I did not want to know something. Thanks for all your info!
I have to agree with the last few threads....I came for info. In fact, I started the thread and labeled it "Conv. 2008", so if someone didn't want to know they shouldn't look.
I REALLY appreciate any & all the info given. For those of us unable to attend, it's a blessing. Sure, we might find out eventually, but it's kind of a way to get those of us at home pumped up.
Please, let me live through the convention goers for now and share in their energy! They sound so excited that I can just feel it.
Thanks to everyone for sharing.

*big hugs* I really appreciate you sharing information with us. I was not able to go to convention (work and school and kids lol) and I appreciate any information you share. I dont know about others, but I come here for information and to be in the loop. Everyone here knows what is going on and when and I love that. Your information gave me something to look forward to and get me through some of these long days. Dont let anyone get you upset.
*hugs again* Have a great day!
I was at Session I and I remember seeing next would be in SLC but I didn't see the dates nor that it would be just one session. I'm happy about both of those, but HOW DID I MISS THAT!!??!?!?!? I need to pay better attention ;-}

I missed it too since I was looking at the boards, but I heard that it was announced by Shelli after the entertainment finished on Saturday night. Once again, another reason not to leave the room for any reason or you run the risk of missing something.
My sister and I were in Denver on the last day sitting in our hotel with the laptop making hotel reservations for next year. We made reservations for the Shiloh Inn across the street from the Salt Palace. We weren't even gone yet and we were getting ready for next year! I'm telling you it is worth every penny going to convention, I am so pumped up. It was quite an experience. I wish everyone was able to come.

I haven't been yet (a demo for 1 1/2 yrs) but I've mentioned to DH that I really want to go and he didn't seem to have a problem with it, so I'm going to be there, one way or another

Convention is 7/30-8/3/2008 in SLC. You may as well get use to the idea of convention never moving again. I heard from a person in from the home office that was staying at my hotel the the reason convention wasn't in SLC was not due to construction or renovation on the salt palace. Someone dropped the ball when it came to making the reservations for this years convention. They have to be made at least 18 months in advance and it didn't happen. As for convention moving again I think it cost way to much for SU for all they have to do it makes financial sense to keep it in SLC.

Me too! I went to Convention in '05 - the first year in SLC and I had an absolute blast! It was my first Convention so I was a bit overwhelmed. I told my DH that I am going next year because it will be my 5 yr and I get to walk across the stage. The good thing is he gets to go to his work-related "professional" conference this year, paid by the Army. Soooo, I get to go to my "professional" conference, except I have to pay for it. Good thing I have a year to save up. The airline ticket is going to cost around $1,000 for me b/c I'm overseas. I totally feel it is worth it though, it'll be my 5th year and SU's 20th!!

I've already made a reservation for the Hilton. I stayed there in '05 and really liked it. Having the reservation at the hotel makes it kinda real, doesn't it? Something to look forward to for a whole year.

Well, I did it. I said I wasn't going to but I came home from convention with so many ideas and met so many new friends that I have already booked my room for SLC in '08! Its at the Crystal Inn about 3 blocks from Salt Palace....yippee!!! I can't wait, now if I could only make my airline reservations....

I agree...it's one of those things but I know to stay out of SCS if I don't wanna know. However I DO wanna know and lduring 1st session I could hardly drag myself away from the forums to finish my Session 2 swaps!
However, I rode the airport shuttle to the hotel with a woman who was very loudly talking on her cell phone to a friend the entire way in from the airport and she was spilling her guts about every detail of every announcement made at Session 1 the whole way in. She didn't respond very well (e.g. I don't think she even noticed!) to the "body language" of those around her and she was directly behind me so I had a headache after listening to her 30 minute very loud commentary and even though I already knew all the dirt, I was very sorry for anyone on the shuttle who had been trying to lay low and be able to enjoy the surprises. lol!
The thing about the iphone reminded me of this....she wasn't using an IPhone but she sure was obnoxious! The remaining people in the shuttle all breathed a huge sigh of relief when she got off at her hotel! lol! There were others making discrete calls enroute but quietly and not for the whole time, this gal took the cake!
Anyway, not that this has anything to do with anything but I was reminded of it with the "spoiler" thread. Guess we had audio spoilers on the shuttle. Jan
