Coloring tutorials
Hi everyone!
I am trying to learn how to color. The extent of my art education stopped at stick figures (and I am pretty sure some of my stick figures are afflicted with scoliosis). I am looking for some good tutorials on coloring and shading. I looked on youtube but there are way to many to wade through. Do any of you have any good links for coloring/shading lessons or tutorials I can search for on youtube? Thanks in advance. Amber |
what medium are you planning to use?

Colored pencils and markers (alcohol and water based)

Here's a great tutorial for you. In the video they are using Prisma pencils, but this works with any kind of wax based pencil crayon. I like Prismas because they have bolder, more vibrant colours, however they are a bit pricey. I have had great success with Crayola and decent results with Laurentian.

You might find Marinanne Walker's blog, "I Like Markers" a help. I Like Markers
She works for Copic, I believe. She also has 2 books out which I have and think are excellent for the artisit-wannabe(like me). SHADOWS & SHADING and COPIC COLORING GUIDE BOOK. I'm sure the principles and techniques she uses with the markers can be applied to other mediums as well. |
The is a book called "Coloring Techniques for Card Making" published by DRG sold by Annie's Attic. They review techniques for colored pencils, watercolor and markers....

I have many different colouring tutorials for Prismacolor pencil crayons on my blog under "tutorials and more tutorials". They are listed under Prismacolor. My biggest hit was "Colour me Beautiful."

Amber About the coloring, I frequently send cards to a long-time friend who is not crafty at all. One day we had lunch and she had one of my cards with her that she had just received. She was thanking me nicely, and I said something to the effect that the coloring wasn't as good as I had planned. She looked at me in shock - "Oh my gosh, you COLOR these? I thought the stamps came already colored that way." So enjoy coloring and send those cards out. They will be appreciated, I promise. |
