I see so many cute House Mouse stamps and would love to get some. But they look like they'd be difficult to color, with so many different things on them.
Are they hard to color? What do you use to color them, markers, colored pencils????
I prefer watercolours. But then, I use watercolours to colour everything.
Before I discovered watercolours (since these were some of the earliest stamps I owned), I used to colour them with chalk (yuck!), markers and faded markers, coloured pencils (yuck! This was before I discovered gamsol or odorless mineral spirits).
I use prismacolors on mine and just take it one step at a time with the coloring. Some cards take longer than others to color, but I don't just send my HM cards out to anyone, they must be special to rate one of my cards..LOL! I have quite a few HM cards in my gallery (I adore them), but here is one that you can see took me longer than most to color: Aging Gracefully

I look forward to my sessions on HM stamped images using my prismacolor pencils. I carefully emboss the image first - then color to my heart's content! The stamps vary in complexity. Drop by your local Hobby Lobby and see if they have any in the clearance bin!

If you have Copics, here is a great tutorial that I have saved.
Stampendous has been carrying some of the House-Mouse Designs and they have created two color charts for Copics and Tombow markers. Here is a link if you are still interested.

They are such cute little squeaks! Hope you are still having fun coloring them.
I checked this out and how great! I love HM images. I have a lot and I am the same way as another poster. Only someone special gets my HM cards. They are such precious images. Thanks for this link!
I usually use pencil crayons (Crayola, RoseArt, Prismacolor ...) and oms. I have used copics, but for some reason I like the way these stamps look coloured with pencil crayons better than with copics.
I use Prismacolor pencils and OMS to color mine. I read the tutorial on the House Mouse site years ago & found that the pencils are easiest for me to get the color variations for each specific mouse according to the designer's instructions. I love coloring them & find they are pretty easy to color. I only have one example in my small gallery:
I have 2 House Mouse stamps which were given to me by a store so I could design some cards. Although I was happy with the result in the end (see THIS card in my gallery - I did others but never shared them at SCS), they were very, very time-consuming to colour. I ended up using Prismacolor + Derwent Coloursoft pencils and OMS which I found were the easiest colouring method for me (my other method is using watercolour pencils or acrylic paints thinned down to behave like watercolour paints). They are very cute stamps but I haven't been brave enough to buy any others because I don't have alot of time to spend colouring and find other stamps like the Penny Black animals much quicker and easier - and I lack confidence!
I love seeing that most folks love using their Prismacolor pencils and a gamsol technique! I like that method the best too for House Mouse stamps. They just are the cutest stamps! I love them too!

I agree, and love to color them with pencils, rather than markers. I don't usually fool with using OMS with them, just the pencil colors alone suit me fine. Since the stamps already have so much detail and fine lines for the fur, I find them pretty easy to color. I use my Versafine black onyx to stamp them with.

Wow, this thread is four years old..you guys have staying power!
I use colored pencils and a non-toxic orange based solvent. OMS are toxic and I don't recommend using them if you have little ones, curious pets or breathing problems like asthma. Even though they are odorless they can still cause headaches and other issues. Baby oil is also a good alternative, the key is to not saturate your applicator. Just a dab'll do.
When I first went looking for Odourless Mineral Spirits (OMS) at my local Art Store they looked at me blankly. When I explained about using OMS with Prismacolor pencils ie: the Magic Coloured Pencil technique, I also got blank looks. But when I explained that the OMS sort-of dissolves the wax from the pencil so that you can move the colour around, they pointed me towards something called Odourless Solvent which is made by Chroma Australia but they do sell their products all over the world. I am assuming that this is the same type of thing (?) as the Odourless Solvent works beautifully for this technique. I am extremely allergic to citrus so any of the other solvents with citrus are out for me - plus I get asthma - but the Odourless Solvent doesn't cause me any breathing problems.
The Odourless Solvent says on the the bottle that it is the healthier alternative to gum or mineral turpentine. I bought a 100ml bottle which is 3.3 US fluid oz. Thought this might help someone as sometimes things are called different things in different countries but work the same way.

Reason: typo - I hate typos in my own writing!
