Default color wheel question

I just got a Color Coach wheel and I really like the many combos it gives. However, I am confused as to how to use the "complementary color". It is the one color underneath all the coordinating colors and it says it will give 'extra punch' to the card.

How do I incorporate this color in the card? Is it a small bit of the color? A large chunk of color?

You would basically use it as an accent, in small doses.
