Default In-Color Spots - Think this will work?

I have seen different threads on how to make your own in-color spots by purchasing empty 1 inch stamps pads online but I'm wondering if you think my crazy idea will work.

I found an 8x10 sheet of Cut N Dry Stamppad Felt today at my LSS for $4.99 (actually $1.25 less as I had a 25% off coupon). Its by Ranger and has the fabric covering. I also have some very cheap 1'' spot-size stamp pads that I got somewhere along the way for my kids which are no longer being used (they prefer the good stuff). I'm thinking I can rip the spongy cheapy ink pad off the stamp pad, cut the empty felt pad into 1" squares, glue them in and ink away.

If this works, I'll have to just keep my eye out for more cheapy little stamp pads to destroy. If I do a good job of cutting, I should have 80 1-inch squares . . . which should last a few years Do you think this will work?

Now I just have to purchase the in-color refills . . .

I think it would work. When I was thinking about how to make In Color spots, I eyeballed some of my cheapy little stamp pads too. But I don't have a local place to buy the Cut N Dry, so I would have to mail order it, so I didn't follow through. If you do try it, please post your results!
