I'm a real pack-rat when it comes to ribbon and fibers, and have tried a number of different storage ideas for my ribbon, none of which were 100% satisfactory. This is my latest try at organizing my ribbons and seems to be working OK so far, so I thought I'd share it as I know there is often discussion here on various ways of storing all our little "necessities"! There's a hole punched in one corner of each ziplock baggie at the end away from the ziplock closure. A ring binder ring is threaded through the holes and by fanning out the bags I can see almost all my ribbons at the same time and easily choose a suitable one for the project I'm working on at that time. They are color co-ordinated (more or less ...!) and I hang the ring on a hook near my desk. By having the punched hole and ring at the 'blunt' end of the baggie, it's easy to open the ziplock closure and get at the ribbon without the ring interfering with the closure. I'm sure I'm not the first one to do this, but I haven't seen it mentioned here previously. Of course if you don't have too many ribbons you could store each one individually in a ziplock bag. I've bunched mine together because I have so many short lenghts of ribbon. This method also takes up a lot less storage space than ribbon spools I've found.
That's a great idea with the baggies! I'm still searching for that perfect storage system myself and I found an old tie hanger that my DH doesn't use any longer. It has a hanger at the top with many holes in it and I have just been threading ribbons through it. It works ok for longer pieces (8" or longer) but the smaller ones won't stay, so the "baggie idea" is just right for those smaller pieces. Thanks for sharing your idea!
I often swap ribbon with friends, so I wind up with lots of unspooled lengths. This is a great idea for managing those, thanks!

Cool idea...all my loose pieces are just shoved in a box. I asked my FIL for christmas to make me a wooden paper towel-like holder so I can place my spools on the dowel and mount it to the wall....then I realized I keep collecting more and more spools it'd never fit all of them, so now I'm just hoping for a gift certificate ;)
Looks like a cool idea, I am also admiring your ribbon collection. You have so many colors and styles. Where have you gotten them from. I need to build my ribbon up.
Here's what I did over the past couple of days. I got the basic idea from the latest CK magazine. We live in an old farm house, so there's always a lot of dust and this help keep the dust off the ribbon as well as keep it organized. I think I'm really going to like this
There's a 4" x 4" piece of thin cardboard that the ribbon is wrapped around and then pinned in place. I can't stand the messy look of ribbon ends everywhere. And I've found that if I blast the ribbon with my heat tool for a second and then pull it taught, it takes the folds right out Some of the CD cases have elastic bands wrapped around them to help keep the shut.
Tilly, I just did that with my entire stash of loose ribbon yardage--I used up over 100 bags, and 4 of these 2 3/4" loose leaf rings, and immediately bought more, so I won't be short-handed when my next ribbon buying binge hits! ;)

I have just realized that lots and lots of ribbon is ok as long as you use it... So I got some Cindy ribbon while in NJ and have used a *few* pieces of it... LOL
I rarely use non-SU ribbon, but what I have is in a dresser drawer in the closet in my stamping room. My precious SU ribbon is mostly on the spools it came on, in a drawer of a plastic storage cart (like an Iris Cart). Amazingly, it all fits in one drawer - grosgrain in the front row, then organdies, ginghams, and cording. The ribbon that's not on spools is in sandwich-size ziploc bags in another drawer - that's the ribbon I got from ribbon shares (Hi Keri! <g>). Then I have my very first SU ribbon purchase - I actually went on Evil-Bay (long before I was a demo!) and for $15, I got one of those plastic floss boxes, with some of each ribbon that SU carries, including cording and hemp. It was all nicely wrapped around those little floss thingies, and labeled. I'm happy to have a little of some colors that SU has discontinued (like the blue that goes with Brilliant Blue and the Glorious Green ribbon!).
I like having my ribbon readily available, but still in a drawer so it doesn't get dusty like it would if it was out in the open. In the top drawer of this plastic cart I have my scraps (each color in a quart-size zip-loc bag) and in the bottom drawer I keep my Hodgepodge and Tag Punch box and extra ribbon baggies.
