Circle Scissors question
Hi
My friend gave me her circle scissor by EK Success. It sure looks cool, but I can't make it work.
Do I need the mat it came with? If so, do you know where I can purchase one?
What is your opinion of this product? It looks like you can cut circles of many sizes easily.
Thanks!!!

You do need a cutting mat under it..Otherwise you will cut your table or something else.
You can purchase a cutting mat from your local wal-mart in the sewing section. that is where I got mine.

I have a mat, it came with the Creative Memories cuttting kit.
But I can't make it work. I was wondering if it is because I am using the wrong mat, or if I am doing it wrong, or if the product is hard to use?

That's what I am beginning to think. Well, if it is, at least someone gave it to me, I didn't waste any money on it.

LADIES< even the eksuccess employees tell people to buy the glass mat to use with it, it really does not work right with the cutting mats (the newer ones are not coming with the mat in the package and they tell you on the box to buy the glass mat.
on the glass mat it works wonderfully!

One thing I do know is the mat has to be bigger than the circle cutter it's self. at least 2 to 3 inches bigger overall.
You might just need a new blade? I haven't had any problems with mine. And I have had mine for 4 years.

My Circle Scissors came with a clear mat -- not glass but sort of hard clear plastic. I hated it. Could never get the Scissors to work very well. It always slipped and the blades broke often.
So I bought one of those green soft mats at the fabric store and it works great on that. I use masking tape to hold everything down - the cardstock and the Circle Scissors. Because there is no slipping, I can spin the circle around 2 or 3 times cutting lightly until it has gone through. With the harder mat, I had to press down harder and try to get it cut on the first try.
Last summer Roxi's Sketch Challenge #83 was to use circles. That day I made four different circle cards just because I was so excited that the thing was finally working. Here is one..... Circles of Love

Super! Thanks everyone for the information. I'm going to keep trying. I love the idea of being able to cut so many circles with just 3 pieces, the circle, the cutter, and the mat.

EK Success sells a glass mat that works like a dream with this, but I still use repositionable tape or adhesive to hold my paper down. The circle scissors definitely works better on cardstock than on text-weight paper.
If you don't want to invest in a glass mat and find that you still don't like the way the circle scissors works, pick up a cheap frame at the dollar store, take the glass out of it and use that. It isn't as thick as the EK Success one and it doesn't have the nice rolled and polished edge, but you'll be able to tell if you like it enough to spring for the more expensive mat.

Thanks for the great idea! I am going to try that.

You don't need a glass mat, yes a glass mat is great if you can get one with it (my dd has one) however I have the circle scissors and I don't have a glass mat, I just use my normal green cutting mat under it. I have found though that you do need to pay attention to which way the blade is pointed (check the instructions) one way for clockwise and the other you go anti clockwise - so you might have the blade in the hole to go one way and you are going the opposite way.
I have used a lot of circle cutting systems and I just love this one. You have soooo many more options for the size of circle you want. If you didn't know each number on the circle scissors represents the size the circle will be in mm.
Please don't give up on it- another thing that might help is to tape the corners of your card you are cutting to the cutting mat so it does not slip
Hope that helps
