Default Circle or Oval?

I can only afford one Giga punch right now. If you were to choose EITHER the Circle Scallop punch or the Oval Scallop punch, which would you choose? Which is more versatile?

I like circles better than ovals. I was looking for this punch this past week, couldn't find it.

I'm more of an oval girl myself I just find they look more classy than circles sometimes. (No offense to the circle people!)

The oval shape will fit a larger variety of stamps - a single flower, a word or phrase, etc.

I bought them both. I like to have variety! But if I was to only have enough $$ for one, I think I'd have bought the circle first. Mainly because I have a lot of stamps that will fit in a circular area.

Thanks for your input. I am leaning toward the Oval punch. JoAnn's has a 50% off one regular priced item online but they do not have the Oval Scallop punch in stock. DARN!!!!

OK, at the moment, where is the cheapest giga sized oval scallop punch you can find? JoAnns has 50% off on one regular sized item but they don't have the oval scallop sized punch in stock.

uchida.com has the giga scallops. I think they are $20. They offer free shipping on $45 or more. Glad I don't have to pay shipping by weight on these babies!!! They are fast (less than a week coast to coast from on-line order to delivery) and they have lots of shapes and sizes available!

Oval to start with, although I will say I own ALL the scallop shape punches in both sizes. I use them all quite a bit. I've had an obsession for scallops that goes waaaaaaay back.

remember that you might want to layer an image on top of your new punch. So, do you have an oval cutter or other circle punch to create the layer? if so, go with that one for your new scallop.

LOL!

I like the oval better. I actually traded my giga scallop circle punch. It was too big for me to work with. Maybe some day I'll get another circle scallop punch that's smaller.

I would say to look at your stamps and see which will fit what you have better. For me it was oval and I was one of the lucky few who was able to snap one up at Joann's for 50% off before they sold out.

I want to add an idea here for everyone who has any of the scalloped punches. Keep a piece of cardstock that is punched out as a template so you can check it against the sizing of your image to see how it fits. I've got an index binder of all my stamps so I can just lay it over the images and see if they will fit in the opening.

I have the Mega Circle, oval, and square punches. I end up using the oval punch the most. Can't wait to buy the Giga ones as well but I'm waiting till they go on sale again.

I have to say I voted neither. These punches are SO expensive, and while they are really cute, I don't hop on every trend that comes my way. So I'm skipping out on scallops for now.

I bought the circle on joann for 10.00 (50% off), that is not bad for a punch. I am coming from a scramping point of view, probably why I do circles. I do not really use alot of ovals. I was tempted by the square, but that will have to wait for another day. Shhh....I'm not supposed to be spending.

chuckle! I've loved 'em for the longest time--over 20 years. I would say I'm pretty much like you in that I don't hop on every trend, either--eeek, and actually guilty of running (deliberately) the opposite direction, snort!-- but I loved 'em before they were trendy, love 'em now, and will love 'em long after they are no longer trendy. There's just something about them for me . . . a nostalgia of some kind . . . mebbe having something to do with the dresses my mother made me when I was little????

Anyhoo, it's kinda like when they told me gingham was so yesterday's news. I don't care; I'm a gingham, & scallop, lover 4 life!

Really? Gingham is out... oh well, I'm sticking with gingham. And eyelets- I read that those were "out" too. Eyelets will always be "in" for me.

But yeah- if you LIKE scallops and will continue to like them, it's probably a great investment. If you are just doing scallops because everyone else is, they are really expensive (at least for my budget)

everyone's doing the scallop oval's (which is why they are sold out everywhere and I've had to buy the squares and circles.) - so I say the circle's!

So, you're a non-conformist, hmmm. So, you're one of those we wouldn't have to worry about "jumping off a cliff, if everyone else did". Well, we shall see. I'm sure we can tempt you somehow with something. Seriously, though, I keep going into my craft room and sorting through things to sell and then I come here and find something else to fill the space. I keep telling myself that I need to examine what I really will use, but then at the time I'm ordering it I think I really will use it.

Oh, I didn't say I can't be tempted- because it sure happens... just ask my SU demo! My very first order involved a tag punch box- which she demoed, and I went out and bought Coluzzles- which she demoed.

I'm just more likely to be "tempted" into things I see in actual use, than see are "all the rage" and I try not to be tempted into really expensive things... (I've managed to stay away from these punches, primas, hardware, but I did recently give in to stickles)

I bought the scalloped oval and then I bought the plain oval for layering and was SO disappointed that the proportions weren't the same I ended up getting the CM oval cutting system (very cheap ), because they actually fit in the scalloped punches

oooh...this is good to know. I have the CM oval cutting system! I must say that finding these punches locally has been like a search for the Holy Grail...they fly off the shelves quicker than they can be put out.
