Default Chrismas Card Question

I normally make about 50-60 of the same card to send out to everyone, this year I was thinking of making several different kinds, since I get bored making the same card. What do you do --- all the same, or variety???

I do basically all the same. (This year the basic design was all the same but I ran out of one kind of red ribbon so I substituted another kind of red ribbon.)

This just makes it easier for me to remember what stamp(s) I've already used for Christmas cards. Also, making one large batch of the same kind of card goes pretty fast once the "conveyer belt" starts.

I do all of the same kind. It's hard enough to make about 60 cards every year without having to design several of them and then remember who got what if I want to do something similar the next year.

What size do you make the 4 x 5 1/2 or the larger cards?

This is the Christmas card that I made for this Christmas. I cased or profiled it or whatever from Jeanne S.'s card. I fell absolutely in love with her card. My plan is to make my Christmas letter as an insert in the card on white paper.

I would prefer to do 2 or 3 designs for that many--I'd get tired of 1 design. You could just change up the colours or use the different stamps that are in 1set. Take a picture of the designs and label it for the year so you are not duplicating. That's just me though

Happy stamping,

I do many different cards every year ... I dont like doing the same card over and over. Yes, it might take me longer, but its way more fun!

Luv this thread. My first year stamping (when I thought I was oh so good), I made one of each card. (I honestly laugh when I see them now). So fast forward to the past couple of years.....I make around 10 of each. Much easier for me to do the assembly line method!

This is the card I made for this Christmas:
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

As you can see it is quite tall. I cut it from 12x12 paper and used the leftover portion to make another card which is regular 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 except it is a top fold when in portrait orientation. That way I could make 2 cards from each sheet of paper. I had the envies for the tall card already.

This is my version of mixing it up a bit but it didn't impact my conveyor belt assembly!

I make the same card each year (but always end up with a few left over). 5 years from now I can send out an assortment of all of my left over cards!!! I say do what ever pleases you the most. Enjoy!

It's a stretch for me to make more than five of the same card. I have been doing 10 of a design for the Christmas Card Challenge.

Variety is the spice of life! I just can't make more than 4-6 of a single design. I scan them all before I send them out and have a record of what I've already done.

For a couple years in a row I mass produced one design for my christmas card but I really dislike mass producing cards so it was no fun. Last year I made several different kinds of Christmas cards... I picked Certainly Celery to use as my base and just went from there. I enjoyed this a lot more than doing all the same design. (It did take more time though!) If there was a certain card that I really liked how it turned out I would then make a few more of them I think this year I will pick 6 or 7 designs and then make 10 of each. Guess I better start perusing the gallery for cards to case!

For the last two years I have gone to my demo's house to do stamp a stacks and am happy with them however, I don't remember who got what, so this year I am going simple (like my now feeble mind) and doing just one.

I have to admit that I mass produce my cards - I am afraid that I will send the same card twice to someone in two years. This way, I don't have to worry about it.

So far I've made about 8 different Xmas cards --I absolutely DESPISE making the same card more than once!! I was just in my first swap, & although it will be fun getting many WONDERFUL cards from many WONDERFUL stampers, I don't know if I would do another. I was really stressed & it took the fun out of stamping for me.

I don't know if I'll continue to make different ones for everyone, or if I'll actually attempt to make 2 or 3 of each. I'm not very creative so it would be a stretch to make 50 or 60 cards all different!! As far as keeping track, I'll record in a notebook which card I send to whom (this is my first year stamping & making Xmas cards, I may change my mind next year!! LOL!!)

I make about 4 of the same card -- that's my limit for repetative stamping. I enjoy the variety. And the next year, I just make a different bunch -- so I don't worry about duplicating a card to someone. With all the stamps floating around, there's little chance of duplication.

Great Thread! I have been in a couple of Christmas card swaps, so have some random ones, and I've made about 15 each of three different designs. I already thought of that, what if next year I send them the same card? lol This is my first year of making all my own christmas cards. Wow.... its fun!

Thanks for all the responses, its nice to hear what others do. Unfortunately, I doubt that anyone I send card to would even remember their card from last year. I'm sure most of them just get tossed!! :(

I decide on one design for the year and then just go for it! I would never remember who got sent what and trying to go back every year to see who got what if I made copies or scans would just be too much of a pain for me. Now that the new TV season is ready to roll, I'll just assemble them as I'm watching my shows!

There are way too many great christmas card ideas on splitcoast for me to settle on one idea..... I do about 8- 10 of each design, and make sure that they are totally different than last year. For example and 2-3 years ago I used Loads of Love and haven't used it for Christmas since then, but might use it again this year with a different style and colored paper. Like someone just said above, I really wonder sometimes what people think when they receive them.

My only plan is to start with one card and make it till I'm bored of it (doesn't usually take too long) ... then move onto another design till I get bored of that one, too. I do understand that it makes life simpler for others, but it just doesn't work with my personality. I just can't see staying with the same card for the whole season (wait ... that sounds like a whole different conversation!). It's not the card ... its me. I just can't commit to one design.

Truthfully, my friends and family save my cards and put them out every year as part of their decorations. That's my motivation for making Christmas cards.

I make 2 or 3 of the same card. I love doing different ones and playing with styles and techniques. I work on them all summer so I have plenty of time. Making Christmas cards is my favorite. It would be too boring to me to do only one design.

Default I do a few designs

The first year I did cards, I made just one design. Last year I did
3 different designs and about 20 of each card. This year I will probably do the
same - I love the mitten one posted above from Flaky Friends - may have to
make a version of that one!

I would consider doing all of one design, but I prefer doing multiples just because
of the personalities of the people I send them to!

I make all the same for the cards I mail - about 45. I make different cards for some of my co-workers - about 15 to 20. I also make all different tags for gifts so that's enough change up for me. I keep one card of the mail outs and date it. It is funny because the first cards I made look so cheesy. I have a lot of friends who are into SU and save every single card they give me. They go in my "inspiration" box. It always amazes me how talented people are. I love everything and anything homemade.

I make all different cards. I love Christmas and have tons of sets. I would be sad if I couldn't use all of my favorite sets. Plus, I do get bored doing all one card. If I come up with a card I REALLY like then I might make two or three of that card. But I do worry that I might send the same type card to the same person two Christmases in a row.

Last year, I made all my cards using the same layout, but switched up the colors and the images to match the person I sent the cards to. It didn't feel so repetitive that way =)

I have a large family and send out that many Christmas cards plus, not everyone has the same taste (thank goodness!) so I make different ones. I break them into catagories ie:religious, beautiful, whimsy, funny childish (for the kids) masculine if they are single males, what ever kinds of things you and your family and friends like. After breaking it down I put my list of people I'm sending them to under the titles, this way I know how many of each design I want to make. Hope this is of some help, happy stamping. El

I am easily bored too! I make 4-8 of each card. Sometimes 12. But I have others ideas come to mind while I am working on one and so I have to do the new idea! Kind of funny though since when I used to buy cards they were all the same!

I make about 4 of each kind and even those I alter alittle bit here and there--I get bored to easy so I always do a bunch of different cards--and if I can't remember what I sent out the year before then most likely the others won't either so I don't worry baout it--and if I duplicate and they actually say something to me then I guess we will have a good laugh over it. I can't sweat the small stuff

I make about 8 of each design of my cards. I enjoy it more that way! That being said, this is the first year I am attempting to make hand stamped cards for everyone on my list, usually I just make them for local friends and relatives!

I tend to make several prototypes to see which ones I like the best and then make 4-5 of each one. By sending out 75-80 cards, I have to make lots of prototypes but I'd NEVER be able to stand making that many of the same card. They would look so sloppy by the time I got to the last one.

I make about 50 of the same design. I always save one and write the year on it, so I don't duplicate in the future.

I don't send out too many....25 tops I guess. I make them all different. I rarely make the same card more than once, except when a customer requests duplicates.

I like to do several different designs. Typically I do one or two more involved designs and then I do a couple of easier layouts. I make about 75 cards and usually have 4-5 diff designs. It allows for more creativity for me I think...and way more fun. I get bored after 10-15 of the same...

I have done several different cards and let the kids pick out the ones they want to help with. That way when we sign it is from our family, it truely is and everyone has a good feeling after we send them off.

I create 4 designs each year and then make 15 of each design. I have a master list of who got what card each year so I don't duplicate the same stamp set 2 years in a row to a particular person - make sense?

I have only ever once made a lot of cards all the same and that was wedding invitations to my son's wedding. By the time I finished I really hated them! For Christmas I pick on a theme (Bells this year) and then make about four of each type. I try not to send the same card to friends/family who see each other regularly then everyone thinks I've made an individual card just for
them.
