Chicago Stamp stores
Does anyone know of Stamping Stores in the Chicago area. We'll actually be downtown Chicago for a convention for a few days. It would be fun to slip away for a bit. TIA,,Sara

Aloha,
I'm from chicago - the bad thing is that there are very few stamping stores near downtown. I only know of two stamp store and two scrapbook stores in chicago... However - if you feel like traveling a little bit - I can send you to a couple more areas (just e-mail me).
but here are the 2 areas near the down town area
Stamp On In, small location near small boutique stores. Next is little bit on the outskirts of downtown ,
Windy City Scrapbooking, no stamps but alot of scrapbooking stuff - near Depaul Campus
little farther away going near to Ohare airport - you'll find Stampology - small location - Has many A muse stamps
Have fun

I loved Stamp on In when I was visiting Chicago. They have some Chicago-themed stamps - I bought this one... http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=64889 Check it out if you can. They are very friendly.

Don't know of any in the downtown area, but there are a few out in the western suburbs. If you have wheels, you might look into Pretty Palette and The Cottage Stamper (both stores are in St. Charles), Creative Scrapbooks and More (on Golf Road in Hoffman Estates), and Carolina Moon (Des Plaines). You might also check the Chicago phone directory since I'm sure there are others I'm not aware of.
Have fun, and enjoy your visit!!

Linda--
I was just in St. Charles last week and it looked like The Pretty Palette was gone. :frown: I went to their address (found it on Mapquest) and it looked like the house was empty and there was no sign. (I had never been there before so I didn't know what I was looking for.) I like the Cottage Stamper - they're very nice and do lots of classes.
Here's their website:
http://www.thecottagestamper.com/
Stamp On In is an easy cab ride from downtown Chicago. If you're on North Michigan Avenue you could even walk it if it's a nice day and you like to walk.

Stampology ROCKS!! The owners Sue and Dave are the NICEST people!!!
I think they have the greatest paper! Totally worth checking out. Stamp on in is great too.
There is a new scrapbooking store in Plainfield/ Naperville on route 59 called Cherish. Super cute store but very little rubber. In Lockport there is a stamp store called Stamp Thyme. She has a good selection and had the giga scallop punches last time I was there. In Joliet there is a scrapbook store called Scrapbook Lane. No stamping stuff there though LOTS of paper and embelishments. HTH Enjoy your visit!! You could call Stampology and see if you could get in on one of their classes. So fun and they include lunch or dinner in the class price.

Stampology is worth the trip. 5031 N. Harlem, 773-631-0352. Easily accessible from the expressway. The entire staff is very helpful. The shop is small but wonderful. They hold classes in the back room every Tuesday and Thursday night with dinner....weekends as well if you're still around. Check out their website: stampologychicago.com. Be sure to say hello to Dave!

Sara (OP), just so you know, the taxi system in Chicago is pretty good. So if you took a taxi to Stampology (which I'm hoping to get to soon!) you should easily be able to catch another one for the return trip back downtown. It's pretty easy to get around in Chicago. Have fun on your trip!

As far as pure stamp selection goes, Stamp Thyme in Lockport (southwest burbs) cannot be beat. It's really crowded, and 80 percent of what they have is stamps, but boy, there are a lot and lots of cool ones. Check out stampthyme.com. It's not the best website but you can get some info there.

You could take the Metra Train to Geneva IL and then get a cab to find these Stamp stores.
Or you could shop in dowtown Geneva.. It's a wonderful place to shop.
http://www.genevachamber.com/shopping.html
Or you could take a cab to Geneva Commons on Randall Road.
http://www.shopgenevacommons.com/directory_alpha.html
There is a Joanne's Craft store.
This is just a idea...
I know when my sister is in town we always shop in Geneva.
I used to live in St. Charles for over 19 years until I moved to Aurora, When I got married.

I don't know how much it would be to get to the store by cab, but you could buy a CTA tourist all day pass and get there pretty easily via public transportation. the blue El line goes to harlem and from there you could catcha bus to Stampology. If you need to plan any travels in Chicago via public transporation just go to this site -- It's awesome: http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/

Chicago Stamp Stores
Thanks, ladies for all the great suggestions. I did run out of time to get out and around but I've made a list for our trip back to Chicago next year.
I did go to Stamp On In and I highly recommend it to anyone. It was so much fun to meet so many stamps in person And I did some $ damage there. Loved it.
Stampology will be at the top of my list and I'll plan to get to some of the others as well.
Mahalo Nui Loa (thank you very much) for all your help.

Just a note- Stamp Shack in Naperville has closed, unfortunately. But I have been to both Stampology and Stamp Thyme and believe me. you will not be disappointed in either one. The owners/staff are awesome and the stamp selection is HUGE!!! Take plenty of $$$$!

Discount for SCS'rs at Stampology!
I made the trek to Stampology today (playing a little hooky from work - easy to do if you work from home ) It was actually pretty easy to get to.
A man greeted me right away and I figured he must be Dave. He asked how I heard of Stampology and I mentioned SCS. He couldn't have been nicer and showed me all the samples of what they make in their classes - awesome!
As I was checking out we talked more about SCS. JulieHRR - he remembers meeting you at CHA! Anyhow, he gave me a 15% discount on my order and said any first-time customer who comes in and MENTIONS SCS TO HIM will get a 15% discount too! He asked me to post this here.
So stop in if you can - they carry a really nice variety and TONS of embellishments. Non-Chicagoans could probably even get there if they had a long layover at O'Hare (take the Blue line train to the Harlem Avenue exit - it's about 5 blocks south of that - totally walkable on a nice day. )

Hee, hee! I went to all three last year! We will be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn on N Swift Rd. I'll have our car since we are driving over from Michigan. It takes less time to drive (3 hours) than the whole process of flying. Hoping to venture out a little more this year than last.

I'll vouch for the Scrap Shack in St. Charles. I live right down the road. No rubber, but the most awesome choices in paper and embellishments. The owne is really great.

One more store in Geneva
OneStopCropShop at the corner or 25 and State (3 behind the Rain restaurant. Not much stamping stuff (nice new foam alphas), but nice scrapbooking supplies.
Love the Cottage Stamper in St. Charles. Great folks work there.
