Default CD case drama

So I ordered the stuff to go unmounted with all my stamps *yippeeee!* and I ran out to Wal Mart at lunch to get some cd cases and a box to store the cases in. This is going to save me SO much room!

Anyway, I check out, get to the car and realise that I had bought the SLIM cases and I thought there was no way some stamps would fit in there! So I took them back in and go to the customer service counter and tell the dude that I got the wrong size....and he argued with me!

"Slim cases are better because they take up less space."

Me-"But I want the regluar ones, can't I just exchange them?"

"I don't understand why you want to, they're too bulky."

Me-*sighs exasperatedly* "I'm storing rubber stamps in them....please just write the credit so I can get back to work?"

"...You can't store stamps in a CD case...they're for CD's...only!"

At that point, I got a manager. Anyway....I finally got what I needed, got back here and opened them. We're sure they are deep enough? I mean....I feel pretty sure, but I tend to get nervous and doubt myself.

Thoughts?

YES (it depends I think)! Regular CDs do the trick for me. I've umounted my alphas but use rubber-only, no foam. Most times, I can stick my rubber onto both sides of the CD case (when opened) and close the case.

If you're using foam, or cling, I don't know how that will impact the thickness.

I bought a set from EBAY and she had them foam mounted in a CD case and they fit fine.

Yeah, I have foam on mine too and they fit just fine in regular size cases, promise.
Sorry you had so much trouble exchanging them, men are so stupid sometimes

At that point, I don't think I would have been amused. It was none of the clerk's business what you were using the item for - you wanted to exchange them and he should have without any questions. Would he tell you that you can't use toilet paper to blow your nose?! (well, bad example I suppose...lol!!)

I use foam mounted in my CD cases. Just an FYI, non-foam mounted acrylic ones fit on both sides of the insides of the regular CD cases (not slim-line). Now I need double CD cases for my larger sets that don't all fit inside one CD case.

I have an acrylic alphabet set from Plaid (freebie with an Anna Griffin kit) and found the stamps touched when I put them on both sides of the CD case. I have them in a funky double case I got from London Drugs (it's purple!) now and they don't touch any more.

They will fit. This is what I plan on using when I get mine unmounted. I have 4 TAC stamps in 1 case. Of course you can only stick them on 1 side if they have foam.

The foam backed stamps fit perfectly after you remove the middle section (with the CD imprint & button)

Gotta love those "service" people...I love the kind who continue with their personal phone calls while you stand there staring at them!

CD cases are my choice...and clear video boxes (they still exist, right?!?) are good for large alpha sets (like the free sign up special from TAC...tee hee...). I think the storage folders might be good for background stamps and now that I've added a few from Cornish Heritage Farms, I am going to go that route for those really big guys.

It is so laughable that he argued with you!

When I unmounted alllllll my stamps (no foam left on any of 'em) I started out with 4 boxes of standard CD cases (total of 200 CD's), got them at one of those office something stores. I asked the young sales guy how to get the divider out and he wouldn't show me until I bought them. Then he wanted to know what I was going to do with 4 boxes of them... He looked at me like I was nuts, guess he never could understand what I was saying.
But...FYI, he did tell me that these thicker CD's are possibly goint extinct.. the slim ones are most popular. A month later I went back for 2 more boxes, so I would have spares if they were discontinued. I love that I can put rubber on both of the inside sides, it saves so much room! I am so much more organized and I put them away so much better. I love them unmounted! would never go back!!!!

The "man" story is pretty funny! when I was building my peg-board storage, you should have seen the looks from the Home Depot guys when I tried to explain what I needed and why...

Good story... I try to avoid telling service people "why" for anything. If you give them too much info, it just slows down the process.

Personally, once you get the stamps in the CD case, I'd take one back to the store and show the kid! "See you CAN store rubber stamps in CD cases!" I hate people who think they know everything!

One thing you might want to do... there are tiny little half circle shaped pieces that normally hold the CD cover paper in, you can snap those off and it'll give you a bit more room in each case. Just push them straight down, they pop off pretty easily. It always bugged me that I had to place the stamps "just so" or they would get crushed by those tabs.

Another thing I do is when you look at the case with the insert taken out, there's the open space where the black insert used to be... anyway, take a sharpie and run it down that edge to mark the bottom of the case. This way when you're putting your stamps back you know how far over you can put them without them getting squished by the cover.

And one last thing... for alphabets, mark the letters on the back of the case (write them backwards) so you know where each letter goes HTH

Please tell me how you can get rubber on both side of the CD case.

I would think that the rubber stamps would be smashed!

I only put them on one side. and I make sure that I take the insert out of my CD case.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have removed all the foam from the rubber, so it's thin enough to fit.

They fit beautifully on the foam in the case. BTW, I discovered that KMart has them at less than 1/2 the price of Walmart!

Ok now that you have removed the foam. what do you use to stick them to?

Are you using some sort of cling?

I use Tack-it on the backside of the rubber, it's a repositionable glue made by the same people who make Tacky Glue and is usally found in pretty close proximity to it too. I get mine from Joanne's or Michaels. Only costs a couple of bucks and a bottle lasts a very long time. I used to use a paint brush but now I just use my finger to smooth the Tack-it on. You don't have to be fussy about getting the edges. I unmounted hundreds of stamps so I would lay out a whole pile of stamps, put on a rubber glove and tack-it them all. Works great..also a trick, get the 3/4" thick acrylic blocks, it keeps your fingers out of the stamp pads.
PS..Goo gone or other adhesive remover gets it off your finger (or table if it got messy).

Be sure to let it dry good before putting in the CD cases.
