When flipping through magazines, it seems that there are a lot more projects that feature SU stamps, over CTMH stamps . . .and I am pondering why that is. I am not looking to debate the acrylic vs. wood mounted stamp issue . ..but is there something lacking in CTMH's images, or style that cause it to not be as published, or do people buy, and therefore use, and therefore submit more SU stamped projects?
Anyone want to ponder with me? I am not at all trying to start a battle of which company is better . . .just pondering why i see more SU in the mags (and can't seem to get most of my CTMH based projects published, to save my life .. . . if they feature stamping, its almost always featuring another company's stamps - not SU, because I don't have any of theirs. . .just other companies in general.)
I just think it's a matter popularity. If Company A sells 1,000,000 stamps year and Company B sells 250,000 stamps a year, it's reasonable to expect that stamps from Company A would show up more in publications than Company B's. The more images sold and the more people buying and using the images, the more cards/projects made that may potentially be submitted for publication.
I have no idea about actual revenue compared to CTMH but I my guess is that SU's annual revenue is greater than CTMH and thus, more popular.
I would think that there aren't many users of CTMH submitting cards and such for publication ~ I myself am not drawn to their stamps, but I know there are many who are.
Maybe stampers using SU stamps are proud to show off what they have made and are always sending them in for others to see when published in a magazine ~ kudos to them for doing so, so that I get to enjoy seeing them.
In fact I just got the new Stamp It! and Papercrafts magazines tonight and haven't even opened them yet.. off to see!

Just wondered - when you submit for publication are you submitting for the current calls the magazines have? I've had better luck with my work being published when I submit for calls rather than submitting to just submit.
Yes I personally submit to particular calls. And I have a good bit of luck. (I have three cards in the new Paper Crafts Stamp It! issue) I don't say that to brag - just to say, that i AM getting published - but rarely is it with projects that feature CTMH. I forget which cards are in Stamp It, but I think two of them are October Afternoon stamps, and one maybe, Cornish Heritage Farms? I forget. As far as CTMH, maybe a sentiment stamp here or there, and definitely other supplies (ink, cardstock, embellies) but that's mainly about it.
Kristy, I am going to check into this, because its a good thought!!. . .

hey, if you're up for it karla, i am sooooo there!!!
i was actually joking the other day about how a particular project (that wasn't going well) might go if i was a little intoxicated!!!!!! tee heee!
oooh, you're good girl! according to my mom, who's a consultant. . .they don't share that information. . ..but keep digging - I'd be interested to see what you can find!!!
I don't know if this actually has any bearing on which projects they choose to publish but when I attended CKU last year SU was one of the sponsors who had a make & take booth. I don't remember CTMH having one. If a company provides product free to members of a design team we are going to see projects featuring their products in the mags. I have noticed more projects in Creating Keepsakes using SU products over the last couple of years and more SU products in CK giveaways.

Thanks for your thoughts ladies!!!
Congrats on your publications! I think PaperCrafts and some of the other magazines tend not to publish many SU and CTMH designed cards - unless they are made by the in house designers at SU and CTMH. Try submitting them to Stampers Sampler or Take 10 - I bet they get picked up there.
I used to love CTMH stamps. Then the change occurred. I still like that they are acrylic but they hardly have any stamps anymore. Their catalog used to be huge. Then they started going more scrapbooking. I am not a scrapper. I only do cards and the images just don't work for that.

one of the reasons that the catalog isn't as large anymore, is because it is released four times a year, instead of once a year. but i totally understand what you are saying!!
I love CTMH (and a consultant) and I use a lot of SU as well. I'm not sure why but I agree it's probably the popularity of SU. I often ponder if SU is going to go acrylic? See laura you aren't the only ponderer

I think CTMH has become more widely used for it's scrapping stuff and stamps are secondary and sold to coordinate with the scrappin stuff. So, even if the *did-do*? have as many customers as company B, maybe there are fewer stamp sets being sold as compared to company b and to "other" products.

Interesting idea . . .so more people shop SU because they are looking for STAMPS in particular. People might be more likely to buy stamps from CTMH because they are buying a kit or something that has stamps that match. I think that's a really valid idea! So therefore, people who are soley making cards, and submitting might steer more towards SU over CTMH if they are just looking to shop for stamps.
I've wondered this too. I agree with Pam that perhaps not many folks are submitting items using CTMH stuff.
However, I just got a card published in which I used CTMH square brads with different stamps and supplies from all over, but they didn't even mention the brads in the description in the mag. I wondered about that, but there were other cards in that publication that were using CTMH products, just not many.
