Hi, this may seem like something I should know but I am wondering what size cards you make? I have checked out the gallery and seen beautiful cards with lots of stuff on them.
I am new to stamping and bought a pack of notecards, 4 3/4" X 3 3/4". I have been working on a BD card for my daughter and there doesn't seem to be much room to work with.
Hi, Maxell! Welcome to stamping and to SCS! You'd think that smaller would be easier, wouldn't you? I am like most of us who use A-2 sized cards. That is, a 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" card. Using an 8-1/2 x 11 piece of cardstock, cut in half on the 11" side so you wind up with two pieces that are 5-1/2 x 4-1/4. Folded in half, you can use it in either orientation, portrait or landscape.
You could also cut the paper in half the long ways so the folded edge is 4-1/4 rather than 5-1/2"; it will still fit a standard envelope.
Just remember there is no "wrong" way to do this, lol! Stamping is supposed to be fun, so ENJOY!
I usually make the 4 1/4x5 1/2 but if it's going on a gift the sky's the limit. And I like making the larger (single sheet folded in half) if there is a patterned paper I really want to showcase. And when I made the invites for my son's first birthday I just used a quarter sheet and stamped on both sides after I filled in the info.
And welcome to stamping heaven. I am new myself and have become addicted literally overnight. I keep the page open all day on the computer so I can pop on whenever I have a sec.

Most of mine are the standard 4.25 x 5.5. But now and then I find a bargain on odd size envelopes and being the "thrifty" person that I am, I will buy 1,000 envelopes just to get the bargain price. Of course I do have to design a card now and then in a very odd size in order to justify my great purchase.
Welcome to the wonderful world of stamping, Maxwell. I use the half sheet of cardstock for cards also and sometimes the whole sheet folded in half. You can find envelopes for both sizes at Office Depot by the box or small package. Once thing you need to be careful of when making cards to send is the size as the post office requires more postage for the odd sizes, so I use the 4.24 by 5.5 size or the 8.5 by 5.5 as they require the normal amount of postage. Then the only thing you have to worry about is the embellishments and how far they stick out on the cards. I cut my own cardstock to as just buying a package of 8.5 by 11 is more economical to use. Have fun and feel free to ask any questions. These ladies here are so helpful and have so many ideas they are willing to share.

Welcome to the stamping world. It's a wonderful hobby. I would say that about 90% of the time I do the A2 size (5 1/2 x 2 1/4). Part of the reason is that I buy a large box of envelopes from a business office supply store, and buy cardstock by the ream, so it's more economical.
Using the same size, also allows me to pre-cut and pre-fold and not have to measure the basic card. When layering, I always know what the starting point is.
I do occasionally make larger cards, but then you have to have envelopes to fit.
