Default Blended ink charts help

I looked around here and I tried to look on the net...maybe I am doing it wrong.

I have trouble remembering things. I was thinking I could make myself either a chart or tag samples of good blended ink color combos...like x, y and z make a good sunset or a, b, c make a good night sky or whatever.

There are so many inks and therefore so many possibilities!

Does anyone here do this and how? Do you make samples or just list them in the computer?

Do you know sites where they have already done it I can bookmark? I looked at Tim Holtz and Ranger for the distress as a huge blending ink and dont see it.

Do you have favorite blended ink combos you would be willing to share?

I should say I am open to any color discussion-dye, pigments, chalks, pencils, pens, paints. I may not have them but someone else might.

I have a pinterest board with color combinations for inks. Most of them come from various color challenges I follow. Most of them are Stampin Up colors. I need to add some Distress Ink combos.

Last year, when Tim introduced the new Distress colors each month, he did blends of the new color with some other colors in the Distress line. Did you see those? Very helpful for figuring out good two-color combos! You can find those videos on the Tim Holtz YouTube channel.

Shucks. What I am seeing is Tim each of the 12 months with the new color playing with other inks with it-but no master vid of water, sky, ground, sunrise/set, night sky, etc. combos.

I searched YT under chart of blends for distress alone and all I get is HT blend them, HT make custom pads, etc. No one has a suggestion about three 3 colors look great together to make water, or even how they keep a record of blends they like.

I know it's personal taste to some extent but I was hoping to at least see a system.

I guess I just have to make a lot of tags of CS and start blending and put the ones I like on a ring? Since paper matters I have to use the CS I would be using. It isnt that I am lazy and it isnt the hardest thing to do-but it is lot of experimenting.

I would still be very open to hear of anyone's "favorite combos" though! So many people here are more advanced than me and have years more experience.

Yes LOL but I think it's the best way to find the unique combinations that you like, using colors that you are drawn to.

For instance, I sponged (working in stripes from the bottom up) Ground Espresso, Peeled Paint, Scattered Straw, and Broken China/Tumbled Glass for a sort of Southwest feel. Haven't seen it many places but I love it!

I've also used Broken China, Tumbled Glass, Stormy Sky, and Black Soot with a touch of Seedless Preserves for a nighttime sky.

But here is Shari Carroll to the rescue :-)

Thank you for the link.

I know we all have to do different combos we like for backgrounds on any given day to suit the need, and there are color challenges and stuff...I just think some of my specific things are missing something...like water, sunset, ground...ground seems like it should be so simple...just looks like bad mud. I'll get there. Maybe I am using too many colors. I do know I dont want mustard seed in there. Then it just looks like bad poo not to be graphic.

Here is a link for outer space I thought was very cool I just found by way of contribution to the discussion.

Wavejumper, thanks for that link. It looks awesome. Just downloaded the You Tube vid to watch on my tablet one night next week. Hubby works nights, and while I'm off sick, I watch videos on my tablet in the evenings.

I am glad you like it-caught my eye!

I want to change the original question since it appears I am being lazy and dont want to test blending options. Which wasnt my intent, but I can see how it looks that way.

Let's it make this instead so everyone can participate:

Do you have a favorite blend combination?

Do you have a link that you loved for blending you can share?

This way maybe we can all gain new combos to try!

It does NOT look that way to me.
I am terrible at blending colors. Whenever I have to do one of those blended backgrounds for a challenge my colors bleed together and turn muddy. I am learning that there are several different combinations for brown--red & green for example--but I can't remember the others.

I actually need a chart that I can hang up and refer to just so I can avoid brown, brown and more brown!

Poppy-thanks-I will try those combos!

Thanks Melissa.
I know I can be very hit and miss about writing a thread start. I wanted all the newbies to get something out of it-not just me.

I drive myself crazy because I cant remember what combos were. So I definitely need to keep a record of some kind too.

I hear that! I dont seem to have a problem recreating bad combos. sigh.

I am wondering if the color wheel will help about which to combine-or not. I am not sure if combining is the same as using side by side. I guess I'll find out.

When I finally got the hang of ink blending, I was practically jumping up and down. I absolutely love the way it looks! However, like many among us, I need guidance for colors that work well together. I started keeping a list of the colors that were used on cards that I really liked. This is what I came up with (most of these are used to create backgrounds, not usually sky, lawn, etc. unless noted):Color combos for ink blending
• Tea Dye, Shabby Shutters, Milled Lavender, Festive Berries
• Broken China, Twisted Citron, Tumbled Glass
• Fossilized Amber, Twisted Citron, Broken China, Picked Raspberry
• Fossilized Amber, Picked Raspberry
• Blueprint Sketch, Peacock Feathers, Twisted Citron
• Abandoned Coral, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Tumbled Glass
• Twisted Citron, Mustard Seed, Abandoned Coral
• Cracked Pistachio, Abandoned Coral, Fossilized Amber
• Squeezed Lemonade, Fossilized Amber
• Squeezed Lemonade, Tumbled Glass, Cracked Pistachio
• Cracked Pistachio, Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers, Blueprint Sketch
• Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, Chipped Sapphire (used in Shelby
Thomas video to create sky and lawn)
• Ripe Persimmon, Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves
• Peacock Feathers, Lucky Clover, Blueprint Sketch
• Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw
• Worn Lipstick, Spun Sugar, Fired Brick
• SU Blackberry Bliss, Cameo Coral
• SU Crushed Curry, Tangelo Twist, Rich Razzleberry, Night of Navy (project: Christmas or Masculine: You pick - The Creativity Cave)
• SU Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Island Indigo

Wavejumper, I hope that you find some combinations that allow you to have fun with this technique. One other thing I wanted to mention was tools. It was when I got the Ranger round mini blending handles and sponges that I finally got the results I was looking for. Prior to that, the only place where I could get that smooth, yummy blended effect was in my dreams. Once I got my hands on those round thingies, I was able to release my inner blender and go to town!

I'm a very visual learner, and I wanted to thank you for posting the video of the galaxy backgrounds. Once she started laying down those darker colors, I thought it was all over. For a while there, I couldn't imagine how it was going to transform into anything as eye-catching as it does. I'm really looking forward to giving it a try!
