Default mail out of country

Can anyone tell me if those of us in the USA can mail to Canada with regular US stamps or do you have to go to the post office to do it? I was going to put 3 US stamps on an envelope...it is more postage than it needs but I figured it was going out of the country. Anyone?

I think your rates have gone up, as have ours, but I think it was $.63 to send a card to Canada as long as it wasn't over weight. Check out the USPS website to find out the basic cost of mailing a card/letter and then if you aren't sure about weight take it in or just add the extra stamps as you are suggesting.

Well, I gave up and went to the post office today. If it is a regular envelope, not overwieght, you don;t need a customes form and it's like .63. What I was sending was a little heavier and kinda bulky (it was for a swap) so I had to do a customs form but it still only cost .90...
HTH!

Thumbs up

And look on the USPS website to see when the 'lil' green customs sticker form' is required (ie for which size of envelope). Then you're good to go! A stamp is a stamp - it's the value of it that's important. Sometimes when I'm sending something overseas I ask for 'regular' stamps as opposed to the printed one. ;)

Um, I just looked on the USPS website - call your local post office and ask. If you're just sending a regular letter or card - no problem! No form needed. Not sure when it is required. And if you do need one - *please mark Gift* so the recipient doesn't have to pay duty.

I tried to remember it myself!! But then I remembered that if it is going over water it is .84 cents. If it is not (like to Canada) it is .63 cents. That is only if it is regular size and it is not bulky. Sometimes I put an additional .39 cent stamp on it if it is bulky. And I ALWAYS write "Hand Cancel" on cards that have an embellishment of some kind just in case...
