Calling all Creative Card Engineers - here's a challenge!
 

This idea has been stuck in my head for a few days now and I just can't get it out. I know you all love a challenge, and you ooze creativity, so hopefully someone out there can help me with this.

I want to send a Welcome To Your New Home card and dreamed about it the other night (is this a sign of addiction? :wink: ). There was a square cutout for the window, and a window shade (piece of paper that could be rolled up), and if they untied the shade at the bottom, it would pop/roll up and you would see something in the window (hope that's not a sign of voyeurism! :roll: ). I haven't sat down to actually try this, but I'm thinking if I could somehow use a rubber band behind it, when you untie the bottom of the shade, it would release the rubber band and roll the shade up? Thoughts of a toothpick to roll the shade up came to mind, and having the rubber band tied to the toothpick ends?

If anyone out there has the gumption to give this some thought, please let me know what you come up with! Thanks much! - J. 8)

Since a blind works on spring action, I don't think the rubber band and
toothpick would work.
But how about creating an accordian type mini blind?. That would be very simple to make by folding the paper accordian style, you could then put a small hole through all the layers of paper at one end while folded and string gold or silver cord through it. Tie a knot at the bottom. Depending on the size, you may have to do this to both ends.
Just an idea for you to experiment with :-)

I have actually seen a card made where the shade is folded in V folds and a string is put thru one side then across the top and put thru the other side, so that the shade pulls up and down. Unfortunately, it was several years ago, and I never made one myself, so this is all the help I can give. :oops:

I have been doing great - and getting riskier and riskier in my stamping projects, which of course meant I had to buy even more stuff.... and I finally realized something had to be done... so I just sent in my paperwork this weekend to become a demo!! :shock:

I have to tell you, it was in large part your wonderful customer service when I needed it in a pinch - knowing that I had such great support through SCS - that really helped me decide to take the plunge. I signed up under another demo (whom I just met through SCS, but is local to me) and I am so confident that it was the right choice, all because of the confidence I have here, and in people like you! :lol:

These are the directions for the window shade cards I designed. I have three different ones in my gallery.

I'll try to explain without making it too complicated. Stamp and color the image, cut a slit right under the valance with an Xacto knife. Cut a piece of CS about 3 1/2" long and the width of the window opening. Glue a 1/2" X 3 1/2" strip to the top of the "shade" (This will prevent it from pulling all the way out.) Fold the bottom up twice about 1/4", attach eyelet.
You can either stamp the window right on the card front, or stamp your background first, glue the cut out window on top, then make your slit. Insert the shade through the slot (stamping your message first), then glue your card front on the card. Hope that explains it, but if you have any questions, you can PM me.
