Has anyone heard about this?
Supposedly a package exploded in a truck and set all the other packages on fire. It was stuff coming into Chicago. I hope there were no SU! boxes on there with our orders of punches and free gifts?!?!?!?
Here is quote from an email that I received on one of my YAHOO! lists this morning.
"Well I heard this morning on the radio that the largest
UPS facility in the USA located in Hodgkins Illinois
caught fire and the loading dock, which had pkgs on it and
3 trailers were caught on fire along w/1000's of pkgs....
Just wanted everyone to be aware of this in case they have
shipped or are waiting for MR Brown to come....
They said right now they have no info (i find this hard to
beleive) of what pkgs were destroyed and what was
undamaged. They recomended checking online under
tracking!
Good luck...hope no stamps were destroyed in the process!
As well as many of Santa's gifts..."
Remember girls stamps are replacable. Hopefully no one was hurt.
Side note: I heard that the free SU set for demos is being sent via USPS...not UPS.
I just know the first thing I thought of was: "OMG! my package just shipped out from SU! on Tuesday! and went to track my stamps." (they sometimes go through there) Then I thought: I am terrible...my first concern was wood and rubber! Was anyone hurt?!
I was just trying to be the voice of reason! LOL! I know how frantic we can ll get over out orders and such.
New updates:
"A UPS spokesman Christine McManus tells WBBM Newsradio 780 that six or seven trailers outside the UPS sorting facility building were involved in the fire. An undetermined number of packages were damaged or destroyed because it wasn't known yet at what point in the loading process workers were when the fire began at about midnight. UPS will notify senders if their items were involved.
About 1,000 workers were forced from the UPS building. No one was reported injured.
UPS tells WBBM the easiest way for customers to determine if their package was affected is to go to www.ups.com and punch in the package's tracking number.
If you want more info, go to google and type in UPS at Hodgkins. There are new wire reports."
"A worker
said a package came down the conveyer belt that loads them into the truck in
flames, and it started the truck on fire- the truck next to it started on
fire- then there was an evacuation of 1000 emplotees. They said that approx
1000 packages were damaged. Today, UPS is back working with no problems
except for the area where the fire occurred."
No need to apologize...you are right...the important thing was that no one was hurt...I just wanted everyone to know that I would not have posted worried about our SU! packages if someone was hurt.
B-c my first thought when I heard it was "I hope my free SU! gift wasn't on that truck...and I just got an order delivered yesterday...so I was like "Phew....glad it got to me just in time...b-c it could have been on that truck."
I have two orders that are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow and most of my orders go through this facility (I live in southern Michigan). It still says they are on schedule.I heard the news at 5:30 this morning and knew my orders could be at that facility.
I too am thankful that everyone was safe. Gifts and stamps can be replaced.

SHAME ON ME!
Glitter Girl-
We are ALL human!!!! I had the exact same thought......sorry to say.
I admire your honesty.....
It is our human nature to think of ourselves first....even though we may strive daily to do otherwise....I'm glad no one was hurt, I pray that nothing irreplaceable was ruined that was special to someone....and of course I hope that there were absolutely NO SU! packages on those trucks.....(mine go through there every time as I am just 2 hours south of there!)

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
I have to say that was my first thought as well. I still havent recieved my SU gift even though my demo friend who lives a few miles away got hers the day before yesterday AND I have a huge supply order coming including the SOTG kit that I placed on Sept 29th. I have called twice now and they assured me it would be at my house friday morning but unfortunately there isnt a tracking number so I have no idea where it is.
I work for UPS in Oklahoma City. That would be SO scary!! That is the first I've heard of it.
One thing that I will say is that all of us at UPS really do care about all of those Christmas presents. Now and then a Christmas box is undeliverable, and it really breaks our hearts. The other day there was a present that had been packed in an old Avon box...like a copy paper box? Well, NEVER ship a present in those boxes!! Avon can't even keep the lid on those boxes! Anyway, this present was just the bottom half of the box. The lid was gone, and there was no other information anywhere on or inside the package. Inside the box was a Cabbage Patch doll and a children's book. We all thought it was really sad, wondering who the gifts were for, and if the items could be replaced. They didn't look brand new. They looked used, and loved.
I really have no idea how UPS would know EXACTLY which boxes were inside those trailers yet. I think that would really take time to know for sure, if at all. The tracking number helps a little, but it doesn't keep track of exactly which trailer a box goes into. For instance, there are several trailers that go to Dallas from OKC. The packages are scanned as they get loaded into the trailers. But, if something happened to one of those trailers, like the fire, there wouldn't be a way of knowing which trailer YOUR box was in. I don't think that would be known until the packages fell off of the delivery schedule...not being scanned at the next place they were supposed to be scanned at.
I just wanted to share what little insider information I have on all of us at Brown!!
Well, the first thing I thought was that a fire at a UPS warehouse was the beginning of nothing less than a GIANT HUNKFEST. I'm talking about UPS GUYS AND FIREMEN together in one place!
of course, I'm kidding. We all are caring and sympathetic and hope no one got hurt. (especially the cute ups guys)
My brown driver is a chain smoking woman who makes all my packages stink.
Are the drivers allowed to smoke?
Just wondering because the last package I got yesterday did go thru Hodgkins IL according to the tracking system the day the fires happened. And as soon as I opened the package I could smell the smoke, YUCK!! Just wondering if it was the drivers or if it was near the fire.
I am glad no one was hurt. UPS is my best friend. Our UPS driver has become our friend. He delivers packages either to me or my husband every other day for the past 3 years. The good news is packages can be insured but the bad news is while they can be replaced some won't make it in time for Christmas. I hope Santa wasn't sending his gifts through that location this year.
