Buying glycerin for blender pens??
 

I need to call SU about my dried up Blender Pens - I've only had them since March and they don't have much liquid in them (and I haven't used them all that much). So I'm hoping they do replace them (I'm a demo, so I'll call Demonstrator Support). But in the meantime, I got this recipe for refilling them:

Make 1 oz
1/3 glycerin
2/3 distilled water
1/4 teaspoon alcohol

Okay, where do you buy glycerin and what kind of container does it come in? A little bottle of liquid is what I was looking for at the drugstore part of my grocery store yesterday. I even asked where it was and this gal was very helpful, but we ended up in the stomach remedy aisle and well... you know what kind of GLYCERIN is in that aisle! She did know I was looking for a little bottle of liquid and not that other form! <G>

So what area is it in and what does it look like?? How do you put this solution in your blender pen? Do you need an eyedropper?? I'm wondering if I should pull mine apart - I'm afraid of wrecking them. And since the Aquapainters are SO backordered, I really want to be able to use my Blender Pens!

I went to the pharmacy of my local Super Wal-mart and asked for Glycerin. The pharmacist asked if I wanted "liquid or suppositories"...yikes!! LIQUID please! They were out at the time, but he said they'd have it in on Tuesday. I have to go back to get it today. I think it just comes in a small bottle. He said it is just a few dollars.

Or you could try Walgreens or another good pharmacy would have it.

I intend on making some for my blender pens!

I bought some glycerin to make my bath salts and I believe, at least at Meijer here, it was in the aisle that had band-aids. It was next to other little bottles of stuff to put on scraps and scratches. HTH

OK Now I am confused because when I worked at a bank years ago we put it in a dispenser(with a roller) and used it on our fingers to seperate money...
I would think you could get it at an office supply store. I did look when I was in town the other day (I am doing all the box tops and campbells labels for my school - sure dont want to lick my fingers to seperate things :shock: ) and they did not have any but I did not ask. They had something in a dispenser already but it did not say what it was...

Do you have a craft store with candy making aisle?
 

I had no idea why people said to go to a pharmacy--I wish I still didn't! LOL

If you have a Jo Ann's or Michael's, look in the Wilton candy/cake aisle. It is is a glass-looking, clear 2oz bottle with a flip-open squirt top.

I used to buy the little bottle of glycerin at the pharmacy because ds and I used to make our own bubbles with it. They usually have it there too.

I used to buy mine at our local drug store. I used it to make bath salts, etc. At first I had to ask the pharmacist and he had to order it. It comes in a small bottle, in liquid form, and it was under $2.00. After I started using more I found it at a health food store. They had bigger quantities and it was still reasonably priced.

I have it here but the Wilton stuff. I buy it because it helps when my cake colors are dried out, it "revives" them. Wilton has been selling it for years now.

I bought glycerin and an eyedropper in the Walmart pharmacy. It comes in a bottle similar to the hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol bottles.

Unfortunately, this recipe for the blender pens did not work for me. Maybe my pens were too dried out but I was very disappointed.

I asked the pharmacist and AGAIN was told they'd have to order it for me. SHEESH!! It's not like I have a medical condition for this stuff. Anyway, she mentioned that she didn't think it was in the cosmetic department anymore and did I want some to be ordered? I said no because both my local WalMarts had already ordered it for me. As I was walking out I walked through the cosmetic department and low and behold, there it was. I knew what it looked like from looking on walgreens.com, and it was near the facial & specialty type lotions.

I just went out to Kmart this morning and went to the pharmacy area. I went to where the band-aids and bactine is sold.....sure enough I found a little bottle (4 oz) of glycerin. The brand is American Fare. It cost me $3.19.

If you do not want to make the refill yourself, you can get the mixture all made up from, www.dovebrushes.com. They also have the dove blender pen that is made to be refilled along with the tips. Everything is really inexpensive. They are located in Tarpon Springs,Fla.
I have used it and it works great. The company is very reputable. The order comes quickly.

I have always bought mine at the drugstore/pharmacy. I have never even thought to look in Michael's or other craft store for it. Thanks for that info! :lol:

Okay, unless I missed it, I did't see directions/tips on how to get the mixture into your blender pen.

Any help? :?:

Take off the tip with a tweezer, use an eye dropper and a place a few drops in each side of the pen. I obtained my Glycerin from AC Moore, a craft store.

I just wanted to give you an update on my Blender Pens. I called SU again today, and the gal said they're only under "warranty" for 90 days, so she can't do anything for me. She said I should buy more! She was friendlier than the gal I talked to yesterday, though. I explained that since the AquaPainters SO backordered, I didn't have anything to demo watercoloring with. I'm working on set samplers and I do have another waterbrush that I'm using, but I can't demo that.

Anyway, I did go to Walgreens and got the ingredients for the Blender Pen stuff today. I bought a gallon of distilled water, then left without it! By the time I realized it, it was on the late side - I had piano students coming soon. So I used regular water, not distilled. I used the filtered stuff that comes out of our refrigerator's dispenser. I hope it doesn't wreck my Blender Pens, but they weren't any good since they were so dry!

I had a little plastic bottle from the Container Store and it's a squeeze bottle with a small opening. So I took the tips out of the blender pens, soaked them in the solution, put one tip back, and put more solution in the pen, then put the other tip back on. They work much better now!!

Blender Pens Refills
 

I thought you were soposed to put the solution in a container, like a baby jar, and soak it in the refill overnight. I didn't think you were soposed to remove the tips?? Are the tips secure after replacing them?? I'm asking because I'm planning on trying to rejuvinate mine soon.

GENTLY remove both tips and soak them for a few hours or overnight.

After soaking, replace one tip. Put a couple of drops of solution in the pen with an eyedropper and replace the other tip.

Ok, I just need to clarify: recipie for 1 oz of blender pen refill is
1/3 glycerine,
2/3 dist. h2o
and then the alcohol. So I looked in my cookbook (since I didn't have an eyedropper) and it says
1 fluid oz= 6 teaspoons.
So I make the 3rds into 6ths (it's been awhile for my math) and the new formula is
2/6 glycerine and
4/6 h2o??? So in other words is it
2 tsp. glycerine,
4 teaspoons dist. water and the
1/4 tsp alcohol??
Did I do this correctly??? Any math teachers out there??
They are soaking in it now so we will see. Maybe I should wait untill my 5th grader comes home from school, so she can check my math!!! hahahaha :D

I think you can also get it in the cake decorating sections (wal-mart or michaels.

My upline gave all of us some refill already made up for a present she told us to take off the tips of the pens and soak them overnight. I didnt know you need to put some in the pen :?:
