Default Buying the Best

Here's my theory: we spend a TON on this hobby/addiction. I think every stamper needs the best
paper cutter
adhesive
paper
ink
that she can afford. Stamps that are deeply etched and don't leave shadow marks are essential also!!
Regardless of brand or company, better to buy less and buy the best!

After a year of trial and error, buying and returning.....I wholeheartedly agree. You get what you pay for, (99.9%) of the time.

I agree - especially with the cutter. I struggle with my fiskars cutting clear edges sometimes.

But it is possible to have the best of both worlds if you shop around!

I couldn't agree more. The best can be different for different stampers also. Something I might compromise on would be unthinkable to another stamper and vice versa.

I agree completely, after spending 3 years doing this, I had a ton of stamps and was still struggling with my fiskar cutter and scorer. I now have the tonic cutter and the scor-it. Makes doing cards so much more joyful when I know I am getting a straight cut and getting a nice clean even score line to fold my cards.

The tools are everything when it comes to artwork. Quality deep etched rubber, quality inks, paints, pencils, cutting tools and adhesives are essential to an artist.

I actually agree with the buy less/buy the best with most things in life. I'd rather have one good pair of shoes than four cheap pairs.

I solved that issue by asking DH to *fix* the cheap ones I have..lol. When he says, "this is junk, isn't there something better", my usual response is..."well, now that you mention it". HEHE! That's how I got my tonic cutter and my scor-it! LOL

I didn't used to feel this way, but now that I have bought a couple of expensive, high-quality, well-fitting pairs of shoes, I am converted. Guess which pairs are sitting unused at the bottom of my closet? The cheap ones!

I completely agree... I would much rather spend more money on something that will work better and last longer than save money on a piece of junk!

And I would rather have 4 good pair then one good pair! But...I am a shoe hog and know it.

I think quality supplies are essential. I scrimp where I can and make stuff myself so I can have the things that don't go on sale.

Lisa you are brilliant! I'm trying that next time I *need* to replace something!

I totally agree with having the best tools. I suffered with my lame Fiskars cutter so I could save up for the Stampin' Up/Tonic one. It is painful sometimes to shell out the big bucks for the right tool. But SO worth it!

Thanks for this thread! It JUST hit me - since I save so much money on stamps, I should splurge for a great paper cutter. And retire my Fiskars.

I just hadn't really thought about it before. LOL

Go with the Tonic, you won't be sorry, either from SU or JoAnn's with a coupon. I adore mine! I really actually like my 12 x 12 cutter better then my smaller one..lol. But I will be getting the little 6" cutter very soon, as the CM's one I have is just not working for me. GRRR!

This is exactly why I decided to become a 'hobby' demo, no more running around to different craft stores for inferior products. I'm just going to get my stuff in one swoop and hope my girlfriends want to join in with me - so far they are!

Now, someone keep twisting my arm please, I really like the Score-It Board!

Don't forget about good rubber cutting scissors! Without a good pair, those of us who buy mount it or cut it yourself stamps would be in BIG trouble! (You should see my first set....shudder). Needless to say, rubber scissors were on my very next order!

I went for a couple of years as a demo before I broke down and bought the scissors. What a fool I felt like after mounting my first set with them. I still get a little miffed at myself when I think of all the sets I mounted the hard way.
