Default Bloggers Tagging

I love that bloggers are tagging one another. I have added 27 bloggers to my favorites since Saturday alone. But now I am noticing a "thumbs down" attitude by some of the more well-known bloggers referring to it as a popularity contest, being annoyed by it, or in some cases, sounding like they are above playing the game of the commoners.

I just want to say that I love that many of you are doing it in the spirit intended and introducing many of us to lesser known blogs that are fantastic even though the bloggers may not be part of the inner circle. I say--keep it up!! Some of us love it and I don't think it is either rude or tacky. It is purely fun and very helpful.

I don't have a blog so maybe am not qualified but...

maybe it gets old after a while being tagged. I am sure that some of the bloggers out there get tagged all the time.

Oh, I don't get bothered by tagging or non response to tagging. Everyone's blog is his or her own and the best part about it is that a blogger doesn't have to go by anyone else's rules!

I, too, have discovered a few new blogs with all the tagging that's been going on.
And just because you don't get tagged doesn't mean you can't hop on board and play. Which is what I decided to do today on my blog -- just thought it would be interesting to share a few things about myself even if nobody asked !

I agree that I LOVE the new blogs that I am finding! I have added a ton to my daily fix...I personally don't care whether people play or not...to each his/her own. I did the five favorite blogs last week, and I just got tagged to tell about myself, but I keep forgetting to add that...(who wants to know more about lil 'old me anyway right?)

I blog for me - I think it's fun and a way to stay in touch with my daughter and soninlaw who are going to school four hours away. She's a stamper too so we can look at each others blogs and see what we are doing because you just can't describe a card on the phone!
I got tagged and I thought it was great fun I was so surprised because I really think no one but my daughters are reading - the tag questions always make me think (right now I'm thinking of 7 things to share about myself). I like that it makes me take a minute and stop and think.
but if someone doesn't want to play that's ok by me too. We all have busy lives and blog for different reasons.

Sam, it's just an online diary. They are so easy to set up. Just look at people's signatures if you want to take a look at what a blog is. HTH!

I haven't seen that! People not wanting to play. I mean if you get tagged and it's not what you want to do to play you just don't play... Why put on your blog that you got tagged but don't want to play? I mean that's true though, blogs belong to the person who writes them and they can do whatever they want. I just am suprised to hear people actually said they don't like tagging.

Anyhow I love it and was honored to be tagged and had a terribly difficult time picking 5 blogs to tag. I hope none of them said, "Stinking tag game, Erin is such an idiot to tag me!" heehee

I got tagged and haven't responded yet. I couldn't think of seven interesting things to say about myself. I'll think on it tonight. Because I've been loving reading about all the other bloggers. What neat little tidbits they've been sharing.

I'm kind of split on the issue. The 7 facts tag game is fun because, at least in theory, you find out some interesting stuff about people that you wouldn't otherwise know. I know I put up stuff that I haven't told many people and I had fun thinking of what to include. I then specifically looked for 7 bloggers that did not appear to have been tagged yet so we could all find out more about them. In fact, I think that should be the rule -- that you have to tag people who, to the best of your knowledge, have not yet responded to that particular type of tag. That forces you to actually read some blogs and maybe even find cool new ones.

The five favorites tag is different in my mind because it is more like a popularity contests and some blogs naturally will get tagged over and over and over again. And some of the popular bloggers have already been accused of having an "in crowd" or "inner circle" on different threads in this forum, so I could totally understand them not wanting to perpetuate that image even further by naming each other as each others' favorites. On the other hand, if their friends' blogs really are their favorites, they would have to be dishonest and maybe even hurt their freinds' feelings if they didn't list them as their favorites? So it's a catch 22 for them.

And in general, I would agree with those that said that whether to respond to a tag and how to respond (i.e. choosing to answer the question but not ltagging others) is up to the blogger, and the tagger shouldn't take offense at the tagee's response regardless of what it is.

Perhaps some folks, even tho they don't want to play, for whatever reason, just wanted to acknowledge that they were tagged, rather than not responding at all?

With sooooooo many blogs out there, and all the tagging going on, I'm sure everybody's discovered many new ones to enjoy, so even if some folks decline to play, a lot of blogs are being shared and enjoyed by those that do enjoy the game! UKWIM?

I think it's a nice gesture to acknowledge that you've been tagged even if you don't want to play. This way, the person who tagged you knows that your got the email or whatever. It's kind of like RSVPing to a party. Even if you don't want to go, you should call and let them know you got the invite and that you are declining.

I really enjoyed the 7 questions tag but the 5 favorite blogs was hard for me. I picked 5 of my favorites out of about a million of my favorites but I did feel like could have hurt people's feelings. Hope I didn't.

I felt the same way about picking 5 favorites, I didnít want to hurt feelings or having anyone feel left out. I did really enjoy the 7 tidbits, it has been interesting reading about everyone... and I've added more blogs to my reading list!

How would one even know if they got tagged, with all the blogs out there?? I feel very overwhelmed with the number of blogs, and I would not even know I was tagged unless the blogger emailed me to tell me!

I agree, the "tag" needs to be acknowledged. And I didn't want to be a party pooper and not participate in the Five Faves tag. So I just went through my bookmarked feeds list and randomly picked 5. Then I wrote a little blurb about why I liked each one that got picked. And I tried to make that clear in my post.

So I think there are ways to think outside the box and do it differently rather than even TRY to pick only 5 favorites and worry about hurt feelings.

I agree with everyone though - I have came across LOTS of great blogs that I hadn't seen before. I even saw one with a jukebox type thing where I could listen to different songs while visiting her blog. I'm like "I want one of those!" LOL

And it is a fantastic way to see hundreds of GREAT cards. People tend to post their very best. Also you learn so many tips and techniques that it is almost overwhelming, but so very fun. My stamping has been charged up so much by reading blogs!

Yes, it can be very overwhelming, Keri! {{{{{{{Keri}}}}}}}}

Some folks are really into it, some folks have a more laid back involvement in it. Do what you feel like.

And, prefer not to play, or don't care for blog tag, that's OK--there are no rules!

I am new to the blogging thing, I have to say that I really enjoyed the tagging. I only knew of a few blogs and my list of people to visit really grew afterwards. It was also fun getting to know some better. Being new to it, I didn't take offense that I wasn't tagged over and over again. It's fun and done in the spirit of fun!

Gina and Julie,
You are both right, It is nicer to acknowledge the tag. I took the original post to mean that people were like, "I was tagged by so and so and tagging is not cool". But yea, it's not like people can do it every time if they are tagged a bunch.

Oh and stampwithdiane's points about the 5 favorites is a good one. I think that made it really hard for people. I was sorry not to list my very best friend's blogs ya know? Of course that would take more than 5 anyhow.. So yea that was a tough one.

Either way though I like the connection it seems to make in the blogging community and that's why I love it!

I'm just happy when people look at my "stuff" and enjoy it. Really nice when they let me know they do. It's difficult to leave comments on my blog as it's a Yahoo. 360 and you have to be a member(it's free) to comment. I like reading the seven things about you tags. You get to know the blogger a bit better and sometimes it gives an insight into their art.

ITA--I think Diane had some excellent insights as to why some may feel uncomfortable with blog tag.

Folks may have time constraints, or any number of reasons why they prefer to decline.

And, that's the beauty of it: to each his own, whatever it may be, for whatever their reasons!

What a great thread this is. I was so honored to be tagged, it was just a nice hug that said not only is someone reading my blog but they're also interested in knowing more about me. And dang, girls, this little Texas gal was tagged by someone in the U.K. Dang.

See, that's the other cool thing about tags. When you acknowledge the tagger and tag some others it's like gathering everyone together for a big group hug.

But, yeah, I kind of hope we don't do any more "favorite" blogs. There's just too much talent out there to "rank" favs. Every single one of them has their own merit. Love them all. And, gals, love the blogs in this thread. You rock!

Linda

I was honored to be tagged too! I have also discovered some new blogs through this latest tag as well. I was excited to discover some blogs that were broader than just the stamping/SCS users' blogs that I already have bookmarked.

I found some great scrapbooking blogs that I had not seen yet!

Default Tagging

I don't have a blog but really enjoy looking at them. I like when they have links to other peoples blogs so I can find other similar blogs to read. I think tagging sounds like a new form of chain letter which warped into email chain messages and now is warping into blog chain messages.
If a person gets only a few it's not so bad, but more well known bloggers may get a ton of them and start becoming really annoying. I know I can get really annoyed by emails that state I am not someones true friend (don't love Jesus, am not patriotic, etc) unless I annoy a number of my other friends by forwarding them the message. I know their intentions aren't to annoy me.

I got tagged two days ago! it was rather fun but I just didn't know many people with blogs to know who to tag! maybe I'll have a look at some of yours today and add them to my list. It was nice to be able to reveal something about myself as I'd only been posting cards mainly to my blog.
