Blender Pen Woes

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I just can't seem to get a good look with these. I see samples in the gallery using blender pens that look awesome, but mine just look terrible. I just got my watercolor pencils yesterday, thinking they would work great. I was wrong. What's the secret?

Thanks!

I've always used my watercolor pencils with water and a small brush. They might not be designed to work well with the blender pen fluid. Coloring with the pencils comes out a lot better if you use a light touch, and don't color in the whole thing -- leave a little white space in the middle (makes it look shaded, too, with very little effort!)

I don't think the blender pens work all that well with watercolor pencils. I mainly use them with my ink pads or markers. The colors come out very pretty! I'll just scribble some marker on a plastic lid and then pick up the color with the blender pen. Or if you squeeze the lid of your ink pad there will be some ink on the lid and you can pick that up on your blender. You'll do better with the Aqua pen or brush and water for those pencils. You need to brush too hard with the blenders and then your paper gets wrecked. HTH Kim

I love my blender pens with the watercolor pencils. They work awesome. I have ordered some new ones as mine were two years old and ready to kick the bucket. I color on the paper with the pencil crayon and then lightly go over it with the blender pen. The shading suggestions that were mentioned above work really well. I love the look.

I also use the pens with markers, ink pads, and I am going to try them with the pastels next. I have also used a paint brush and the aqua painters with the pencils.

Love those blender pens and watercolor pencils!

Blender pens

I use the blender pens with the watercolor pencils and the ink pads (pressing the top to get some ink). I found it looks best when you used a little ink or are light on the pencil. You can always add more if you start off light. If you get too much ink, blot it just a little on a tissue or scrap paper. I like how both work. :D

I love mine! I go around the edges darkly (like you used to do with coloring books-one of my customers called it "sealing" the image) and then soooooo gently co around the inside. I think they are awesome! :D

I love my blender pens! What I do is color on a scrap piece of paper with the wather color pencil and take my blender pen over that and transfer the color to my card. It works wonderfully! :D

A question here~

Are you using SU! blender pens? Before I was a demo I tried using another brand, it was horrible and I couldn't get the look I wanted. The SU! ones are the best! I use them with inks, watercolor pencils, and when all dried up, for bleach.
