Black Friday Sales aka How Old Am I, Anyway?

I've gotten better at resisting impulse buys, instead focusing on filling stash gaps. But I couldn't resist this. So am I 12 years old or something instead of past my 50s? (Okay, in my 60s.)

Black Friday Basket - Queen & Co

And there's something wrong with calling sales the week before U.S. Thanksgiving black Friday sales. It's Sunday and Thanksgiving hasn't happened.

But I do need more washi tape, if you ignore the fact that I rarely use it. Maybe with more colors I will.

12. Years. Old.

Beth

arlenevita 11-20-2016 05:57 AM

If the washi tape comes with a tiny shopping cart then, of course, you must buy such cuteness!

And the cart rolls.

fionna51 11-20-2016 06:25 AM

Bwahahaha! That is adorable! But. Like you, Beth...do I even use what I have????

swldebbie 11-20-2016 09:08 AM

Oh heck - forget the washi tape - who wouldn't want the cute little cart? I don't use much of the washi tape I've picked out and bought for myself - to the point that I've started using it to temporarily seal the plastic envelopes I store cards waiting to be mailed in. So I'm pretty sure it would be unlikely that I'd use an anyone's guess assortment they picked out for me. But that cute little shopping cart? OH YEAH! :)

Signed,
Also 12 years old

gregzgurl 11-20-2016 10:44 AM

Totally adorable! I think many of us are still 12 years old - I still will not relinquish the teeny tiny My Little Ponies that I used to keep my little girls quiet in church. Hmm...maybe I'm even younger than 12...?

THIS.

Thank you.

Black Friday is Black Friday. Last year Black Friday started on Monday and this year I saw "4 weeks of Black Friday sales"... no. Just call them sales.

bensarmom 11-21-2016 06:35 PM

That cart is 'stinkin cute'! Buy it and give the washi tape away as Christmas gifts!

Great idea!

bjeans 11-22-2016 03:32 AM

It shipped. :D And I feel less alone in my childish pursuits, thanks to you all for your enabling and understanding.

I used a bunch of washi to cover cans that scissors/rulers/pens/tools are kept in: https://www.organizemore.com/product...-can-organizer. (Cans aren't included; you have to supply your own after eating the food in them.)

Sue, at least you can say your ponies evoke memories of real children as opposed to adults behaving like children. ; )

Dini, IKR? Or call them pre-Thanksgiving sales! These sales are not held the day after Thanksgiving, long known as Black Friday, so how can they call them that? Maybe...

"When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master – – that’s all.”

I don't know what shopping cart you are all talking about but it sounds like something I couldn't resist!

I only have about 10 rolls of washi. I'm another one that doesn't really use it. What I saw somewhere is to put a strip on the back of the envelope (at the point) to dress it up. I've been doing that to use mine.

As far as being a kid at harvest I still have my Barbies. She was a classy dresser-gloves, hats, dresses! This Barbie is actually from 1967. She looks incredibly. Identity I thi Know!

I fun getting them out for my granddaughters!

gregzgurl 11-22-2016 04:14 AM

So, I've been percolating this cart-and-tape thing overnight, did a search on Pinterest for ideas to use the tape if I got it, and bought it this morning. Added the redline tape special to the order to make me happier with the shipping, too. I have some great gift ideas for Christmas now, using this new stash. I didn't think I could justify it, but our family runs heavily to girly-girls (Two sisters, two sisters-in-law, six daughters, a daughter-in-law and four granddaughters), so I'm pretty sure I'll make good use of the tapes, and I'll still have the cute cart for me! Thanks for the heads-up, Beth!

Allistamps123 11-22-2016 04:15 AM

That's supposed to say she looks incredibly modern. My iPad is on it's last legs and does crazy stuff! Is the shopping cart just the "shopping cart"? Because I thought it was actually a mini shopping cart!!!

In my defense I'm home sick...fever, cough, sore throat!

Just realized my post also says kid at harvest! Oh boy! That's supposed to say kid at heart.

Unfortunately, I don't have my Barbies any more. The were stored (along with all of my other treasures) in the rafters of my parents' garage. There was a roof leak and everything got moldy and tossed - so sad. One of my vivid childhood memories is from when they switched the Barbie from the bouffant hairdo to the long straight hair (1967). The local store was offering a discount if you traded in your old Barbie for the new one, so my mom took me and my younger sister to trade ours in. When it came time to give mine up I started crying, so they let me keep them both...

Oh my gosh!!! That's how I got that Barbie. Drove 30 miles to Madison, Wi with my mom and traded mine in.

So sad about the fate of yours years later. :-(

Ok, I found the shopping cart and it's a real shopping cart. That is soooo me! I may have to order it and save $10.00 too!
I have worked with young children and families with young children all my life
(preschool teacher, kindergarten teacher, owned a child care center, parent educator, family life specialist). My husband always says,
"You're such a kid." So, yes this is totally me!

And here I was thinking that "kid at harvest" is a neat turn of phrase - maybe a midwest saying. LOL

And I see you found the mini cart. Glad to have enabled you. ; )

Brenda71 11-22-2016 12:00 PM

"Thanks"!! I had to order one, and get my order enough for free shipping.

I'm also 12. LOL

bensarmom 11-22-2016 12:20 PM

Oh my to be 12 again. I just ordered one but it's for my 19 year old daughter.

Lola G. 11-22-2016 05:45 PM

Too. Much. Fun.!!!

BashfulStamper 11-23-2016 10:55 AM

Just adding my 12-year-old self to the thread. :)

Yup, I am seriously considering that adorable shopping cart. And more washi tape! Yup, I already have... too many rolls to count, LOL.

bjeans 11-23-2016 12:15 PM

It's here!

The good:

- Cart quality - better than expected! Substantial metal, and the toddler seat in the front folds up like in real carts.

- The washi tape - some terrific colors; maybe I'll even use some! I "see" diagonal stripes on a card - some made with ink and others with patterned washi. I got diagonals, wonky stripes and polka dots in vivid colors (11); glitters (2), black & white gears (1), umbrellas (1). No dups. Good picker!

The not so good but it turned out okay: The packaging was a lightly padded envelope and a little tissue paper. No damage though.

Enjoy yours!

ETA: I tried to upload a photo, but twice got a message "no file selected" even though the file was visible. Maybe it's iPad related; no issues on other sites. Sorry.

Resurrecting this thread to show the project that pushed me into buying these tapes (aside from the adorable cart): http://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spli...f197eadbb9.jpg

I made one for each of my granddaughters, and included a separate pack of these markers:
http://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spli...04fa8df341.png
I found the picture here: Craft stick dolls - Dabbles & Babbles, and she got the original idea here: https://teawagontales.blogspot.co.uk...llyhow-to.html I printed that information on the back cover of my kits (credit where it's due, and all that...). I've attached an editable template for the cover if you want to make your own. I've tweaked it a smidge so that the lines of text above and below the photo are more centered. You'll have to trim it down to fit the DVD case, but I have every confidence that you can figure it out...

uncbballfan 12-20-2016 09:48 PM

Ok, 2 things which turned into 3 after I saw Sue's post:

1. I am a poor deprived child who has never owned a Barbie, even though my three younger sisters each got one. I have never let them (nor my Mom) forget this. I think I'm younger than 12.

2. It's a sure sign of the times when you see words that have been changed due to autocorrect, but you can easily tell what the person meant.

3. Sue, your project is absolutely adorable!

gregzgurl 12-20-2016 10:09 PM

  1. You are absolutely justified in not letting your mom and sisters forget it - that's just WRONG!
  2. http://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spli...408b9e1528.jpg
  3. Thank you...

bjeans 12-21-2016 04:54 AM

!!! So beyond adorable! I was thinking it would be fun to cover emery boards with washi so you'd be smiling when filing. . . but you'd cover up the raspy part so couldn't use them. (It's early a.m. For me. Brain isn't plugged in.)

Sue I don't see the template. But it's early, brain isn't... etc. So it's probably me.

gregzgurl 12-21-2016 02:46 PM

The template is the attachment to the post (#22), where it says "attached files". The name of the attachment is "Doll kit cover"...

bjeans 12-21-2016 03:04 PM

I saw the colorful dolls this morning when on an iPad but you couldn't do anything to them. Are they the template? I'm on a PC now and can size the picture. (I think of a template as just lines, like a drawing, but am probably thinking too narrowly.)

gregzgurl 12-21-2016 04:04 PM

It's not a template for the dolls - it's a template for the cover of the DVD case that the kit is in. You can change the name, the font, the color of the text, etc. Sorry about the confusion...

bensarmom 12-21-2016 05:57 PM

I have to tell you how impressed I am with this company. I ordered the little grocery cart with washi tape and got a pink case filled with all sorts of card making things. When I called to tell them I didn't get the cart, they said, keep the pink case of stuff! I was very surprised they'd do that because of all that was in that little pink case.

gregzgurl 12-22-2016 04:39 AM

Did you get the cart eventually, as well?

Was this what you got as a freebie?
Holiday Trunk Kit - Queen & Co If so, wow.

It's my brain, not you. And that the iPad just recognized it as a photo.

Very nice though.

fl_beachbum 12-22-2016 04:30 PM

Sue - what a cute project! I'm going to save this with someone at work. She was looking for projects to do with her kids while they are on break. I definitely have enough washi to share with her! lol
And the autocorrect meme. LOL

gregzgurl 12-22-2016 05:01 PM

Totally off-topic, but following up on the autocorrect thing: I swipe when I'm texting and these are two of my faves - 1) One of my daughters is Jessica, which I often shorten to Jess, and autocorrect sends as "Jesus" (every time) and, 2) "you're welcome" becomes "you're artichoke", which I'm likely to send, anyway, because it amuses me greatly (doesn't take much, obviously).
