Default Is it just me or...

are the floral stamp sets in the new catty just kind of blah? I was hoping for some really outstanding sets and all the ones in there are really big and bold. I'm not really into sets like Mixed bouquet (although I've seen some amazing cards using them). They all seem the same.

anyways, just my opinion. Anyone share it?

I agree -- my first reaction when looking through that catalog was "wow, they are playing it safe this year!"
Just my opinion but I felt there was a lot of repetition.

I was really glad to see Mixed Bouquet make it in from Summer 05 mini. It was so popular that I'm glad it's back!

I think it is all just personal taste. I do not normally buy floral sets, but I love Mixed Bouquet when it came out. And I love the new floral sets as well. You know the old saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

LOL! I crack myself up........

Actually, I like the sets. Some are variations of older sets, but definitely popular ones. Others, like Bodacious Bouquet paired with its Classy Brass template, totally rock! I also love the smaller sets like Sassy Stems and Because of You. And, my total favorite, Blossoms Abound!

I prescribe a week of gallery watching for you, missy! You should be recovered soon!

oh, I know, gallery watching is strangely dangerous ... like I said in my OP, I've seen some amazing cards with the Mixed Bouquet set. As for Both Way Blossoms --> that's a hostess set so I wasn't really talking about it but it is beatiful ... one day hopefully! The main sets I was talking about were in that "floral section" ...

My absolute favorite new set is Serene Sunflowers but I do admit to being a flower addict :-)

Flower addict here, too! I'm getting Blossoms Abound, Serene Sunflower, Still Life Stems, Friends are Like Flowers, and Wild Rose. I already have twelve of the other flower sets in this catalog (in addition to many other retired sets) and five of the wheels!! I love the more realistic looking sets. Those are the ones I reach for most often. I especially love Roses in Winter for making sculpted roses!

I like Wild Rose, but just got Roses In Winter, I also missed out on Mixed Bouquet, so I'll probably get that one later on. I think there is a good variety of flower sets, so hopefully everyone can find something they like.

But I have always leaned towards floral sets!!!!

I never used to like flowers. I worked in a funeral home for a few years, and got really, really sick of flowers. The smell would make me sick after awhile. Now I am starting to really appreciate them, both on and off paper. I have found myself buying more and more flowers and really enjoy using them. They are easy to design with and make stunning cards. I ordered mixed bouquet and can't wait until it gets here!

Betsy, I believe it was you that suggested I go through the gallery when I mentioned I REALLY disliked Mixed Bouquet. Well, I'm convinced, I saw at least 4 samples that were BEAUTIFUL!
Back to the OP - I felt that way too. Going through the gallery may change your mind.

I LOVE Wild Rose. It's just so far down on my wishlist, I doubt I'll get it. That's the only one that stands out to me, but I'm not a flower person.

I like Bodacious Bouquet. Another set that was not on my radar at first but I keep coming back to it. Sadly there are so many sets like that-I think I am in trouble!!!

OK, I will be someone to agree with the original poster! I love floral sets, but I wasn't blown away by any of the new ones this year. Blossoms Abound is about the only one. Maybe the sunflower one, but I'm not sure about that one yet.....I like the more "realistic" looking florals and there just aren't many of them but like everyone says - watch this gallery, you are sure to change your mind! (PS When someone gets the Sunflower set I'd love to see them stamp it as a daisy instead.....that would convince me!)

I love Still Life Stems. It colors easily with great results. This literally took 10 minutes to make:

I have to agree with the OP. I wasn't wowed by the floral section, and didn't it seem a lot smaller than previous catalogs? But I still have something to look forward to, because I still don't have Heartfelt Thanks. But I do agree with what someone else posted, I am warming up to Still Life Stems. When it comes to flowers, I like to color them!

I LOVE Mixed Bouquet---it is such an easy stamp set to use. You can't do much to make this not work! Love it! I also like Boudacious Bouquet, especially because it has a jumbo wheel.

I like floral sets, but I usually go for other sets first. My first reaction to the floral section was boring. But after a second look, I have Sassy Stems on my wish list. Wild Roses looks gorgeous, but it is so big that I may have a hard time using it.

I, too, go along with the original poster. I miss the more detailed designs (not only florals, but stamp sets in many other catagories, as well) in some of the older SU catalogs such as the 1999-2000 issue. On the positive side, I do visit the galleries a lot and get inspired by cards made with the more recent stamp sets.

I do love the flower sets that are in the new catty! I was surprised that there wasn't more....then I had a thought!

*I* think the reason why we didn't get as many 'new' flower sets, is because, each mini usually has 2-3 flower sets in them. Flower sets are a big seller for SU! so they inttoduce them in the mini and then the big sellers are in the next catty.

That is just my thought

I kinda find this thread rather funny as not too long ago I remember reading a lot of "I have too many flower sets!" threads. Haha so maybe SU was reading them too?? - just kiddin

I LOVE the new Bodacious Boquet and I just got Blossoms Abound - I LOVE that set b/c it looks so elegant w/out a lot of effort. The few other new ones are really nice too - I'll prolly get suckered into buying all of them after I see all the gorgeous examples on here!

It is interesting that they chose to put a few sets in that are really similar, such as Mixed Boquet and Flower Fest. But I love Serence Sunflower and Blossoms Abound is nice too. My favorite new flower set is Sassy Stems. Thats one that is really new looking, in my opinion. I love how many options we have this year that are not flowers! I think maybe they were listening to all the people who said too much flowers. Also, we have 4 new minis to go before another new catty release, so maybe there will be more flowers that you will like in those!

I agree with the OP that there aren't many realistic flower sets. However, there are a few flower sets tucked away in other sections (Artfully Asian, Close as a Memory, Hollyhock wheel to name a few). Artfully Asian has a lot of possibilities. I love the cards on the IB&C and the handful of cards in the Gallery are beautiful.

I love the floral sets this year!!!! I think 'Sassy Stems' has class in a funky sorta way, 'Still Life Stems' is elegant, 'Bodacious Bouquet' and the matching wheel are so fun. I also can't wait to play with 'Wild Rose'. Yes, I'm more than happy with the floral sets! I also love the flower in 'Close as a Memory' which is a sympthay set.

I am a flower addict, although I am trying to branch out.(No pun intended.) My first order contained Artfully Asian, Close as a Memory, Serene Sunflowers and Sassy Stems. And for my branching I ordered Espressoly for You and Wishing you the Best. I hope I don't get stampers block with those two. Oh well I'll just come here for inspiration if I do.

Default More than happy with the flowers!!!

I ordered serene sunflower (get in Monday!!) and sassy stems. I pre-ordered blossoms abound-and am SO glad! I LOVE IT!!!!
I am planning on getting artifully asian next, and that will be my flower fill for a while!!
Although- I do agree that mixed bouquet and flower fest have a similar style to them, and I do think that bodacious bouquet is somewhat similar to the newly retired bud and blossoms. just my opinion though!!

I love Blossoms Abound, which I am ordering this month, and I still want Heartfelt Thanks. The jury is still out on Artfully Asian, but I'll probably end up with that one, too. (I vowed I wouldn't get any other flower sets...........sigh.)

Yep, that set's not bad (LOL!). I just got the actual catty in my hands and does that ever change one's perspective on the catalogue. There's nothing quite like looking at an actual book rather than the net. I have Heartfelt Thanks and that is my overall favorite set. I may just have to branch out of my comfort zone and try something different after all the posts here!

I really love Close as a Memory! I've really needed a good sympathy set, and this one is perfect! And I can use that bouquet in so many other ways. Can't you just see it with a ribbon tied around the stems? I'm also a lilac lover, so Blossoms Abound was a must have, and it's so easy to make elegant cards in a jiffy!

I kinda agree with the OP. I am a huge flower addict and was surprised (relieved!) to see that there just weren't as many "blow me away" sets in this catty compared to last year's catty, like Heartfelt Thanks and Petal Prints. I was glad to see Mixed Boquet in there, however, since I missed out on it last summer. But I think Flower Fest is very simliar and will end up getting that instead, since it has a flower in it that matches the Everyday Blossoms wheel, which I already have.

I'm not all that fond of Blossoms Abound, *ducking for cover* but definitely have a thing for Serene Sunflower! I will own that set very soon! LOL ;)

My favorites from the past are HFT, Petal prints, Simple Sketches, Friends are like flowers, to name a few, but just ordered Artfully Aisian and will probably get Wild Rose, Still Life Stems, and Serene Sunflfowers(the bee in this set looks way too real, and me and bees don't get a long, so the jury's still out on this set). But thats all that really struck my fancy in this IBC.
