Question quick help! writing on ribbon!

Nothing like last minute! I need to write my son's name on a 1/2" piece of ribbon to attach to a lamb he made for a church school project (for his first penance later this month). A Sharpie is kind of bleeding. Glitter glue is a mess. What can I use to write his name on a half-inch piece of ribbon to attach to a pom-pon covered 6 in lamb?

I'm trying to use grosgrain, but I may have some Satin or some of the celery ribbon from last year's sale-a-bration.

Thanks in advance!

Micron Pigma pens ( made by Sakura ) are waterproof and suitable for writing on fabric. They come in a variety of nib sizes as well as colours. Some big-box stores such as A.C. Moore and Michaels carry the markers in the larger nib sizes. For the thinnest nib sizes, I've had to either order online or visit a not-so-local artist supply store. HTH

Edited to note -- I'm not sure what type of success you will meet even with one of these pens using grosgrain ribbon. I can check this out and get back to you...

Okay, I tested two different nib sizes on grosgrain ribbon: 01 ( .025 mm nib ), 05 ( .45 mm ). The larger nib "ran" slightly, while the smaller did not. I would suspect though that part of the problem experienced was with the lines on the ribbon itself rather than with the pen. Unfortunately, I don't own any satin ribbon, so I can't check them out for you.

Try tapping your ribbon with an embossing pouch first and then write on it with a fine tip marker.

I used a Sharpie many years ago (I think on a satin-y ribbon) and it bled but when I applied Dritz Fray Check to the ribbon there was no bleeding (I think I used another piece of the same ribbona nd applied the fray Check first).

You may get similar results if you use a clear-drying glue.

Is it possible to tape the ribbon onto a piece of copy paper and run it through your printer to "type" the name instead?

HTH!

The sharpie ended up not running when I wrote on the 'shiny' side of the blue satin ribbon. I used a medium fine marker and a light hand. (can't trust my 8 year old with permanent markers LOL) but he was happy and that is all that counts. All I did was help with the fine cutting of his base (thick craft foam) as his fine motor skills are not great so it would have been frustrating for him.

I'm proud of him. He traced the sheep, I helped with cutting the foam & felt and wrote his name. But he chose the materials, assembled his pom pon "wool", and was proud of his creation. Now he can't wait to see it on display.

Thank you. I also forgot I had clear labels I could have used (these stick well to flat ribbon like the satin, not so good on grosgrain).

My son's big disappointment? He couldn't figure out how to use stamps on his project. LOL. But he did find a box of my old stamps that he was happy to confiscate.
