Soot stamping problems....

OK, I have seen a lot of cards made with the soot from a candle on glossy CS then stamped. I wanted to try this technique however I am having a very difficult time with my candles! Every candle I have tried to use hasn't left any residue on my cs. I have tried everything from the cheap little candles you get from the dollar store to the expensive ones I have gotten as gifts. I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if it is the candles themselves. I light the candle, then hold my paper pretty close to the flame (careful not to get too close and singe the paper :mrgreen: ) moving the paper around a little above the flame..and I still get nothing! Not even a little bit of color on the paper. Any suggestions from people who have been successful at this would be great!! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

I've done soot stamping a few times and I've found that you have to hold the paper pretty darn close to the flame. But keep the paper moving. Try holding it closer and see if you have any success. (And yes, I have burnt my paper before. I always cut my glossy paper larger than I need just in case I singe it.)

I find that I have to hold my paper IN the flame, moving it quickly around to get this to work. Usually end up with scorched edges so I cut it bigger and then crop it down. ;)

I think I held the paper in the flame too, but flat and not at an angle.

I'll have to try it that way and let you all know what happens. It looks very nice on the cards I have seen...now if I can just make it work...LOL TY!!!
