Anyone use AquaPainters with Stampin' Pastels
 

I'm wanting to teach my stamping friends some coloring techniques and I'm wondering if anyone has used Aquapainters with their chalks? I know you can use blender pens, but I'm not getting the greatest results from my blender pens and chalks.

It didn't work vey well for me the one and only time I tried it. The Aquapainter brush gets too wet. Maybe someone else has had better results and can give both of us some tips.

To be quite honest, pastels are a dry medium and should be used as such. Adding water will not get you a good result. The blender pens are better for our watercolor pencils and should be kept away from the pastels. Remember when you were a kid and you drew a hop scotch on the sidewalk, and then it rained, the chalk got gunky, that's what will happen when you add water the the pastels.

I agree that the aqua painters don't work with chalks.

But the blender pens work great with chalks!

At convention last year when they introduced the Aqua Painters they said NOT to use them with the chalks.

I use the blender pens on the pastels all the time also, works great. I do think you're right about the aqua pens, they do get too watery for the pastels.

This is the second thread in two days that I've seen people not happy with blender pens and pastels. For years that was all I used my blender pens on! I'm not sure what I might be doing differently....

I touch the blender pen lightly to a corner of the chalk, then take it to the paper. (I did learn last night that it tends to make the confetti cream paper get weird, pilling. Usually I'm using it on Ultrasmooth white or vanilla.) There's usually a tiny bright spot of color which I spread gently to color. I love how it works, it's like painting to me.

You're right Kathy O. I do it the same way and do enjoy using that technique. I only use daubers for popping pastels, other than that, I use only the blender pen on the pastels.
