Anyone out there from or close to Austin, Texas???
My upline is moving to Austin, TX in June. She is one of the nicest, most creative and fun people I have ever had the priviledge of meeting. If not for her, I wouldn't even know Splitcoast existed!! I am going to miss her like crazy and I have been giving her a little bit of a hard time about moving (in good spirit of course). I was with her a couple nights ago and realized how tough this move is going to be on her. She grew up here (Minnesota) and all of her family is here. She is a little worried that she won't meet any new friends in Texas. I was just hoping I could find some new friends for her to help make this life-changing move easier for her. She has done so much for me, I just want to give something back.
Hi, I live in Pflugerville (just a northern part of Austin) part of the year. It might help if we could have an idea on her age and what part of Austin she will be living in. Austin actually covers quite a bit area if you consider all the bordering suburbs. (I have a tendency never to go further than the central part unless for something particular.)
I am worried she might see this post.. oh well! I will have to find out what city she is in... they are building a new house, so I guess it must be out a ways from Austin. She is 31 and has two little kids.
Hi there, I'd love to help her feel a new sense of community. I live in Austin Texas, I'm 39, and I have a soon to be three year old little boy. She is more than welcome to contact me if she wants to. Just pm if she is interested.
I, too, live in Austin. I'm on the SW side but I grew up on the north side. I'm 36 and have been here since I was 11. We have an almost 3 year old son.
Incidentally, my SIL and BIL moved here from Minneapolis last July. My BIL was doing his surgical residency at UMN.
Please pm me if you (or your upline) wants to chat!
Cheers!

OK, I finally found this thread. Only because MsGreta finally told me that she was trying to find me some new friends in Texas. She is such a sweetie! But, what she said is true, I'm leaving everyone behind in Minnesota and moving to Round Rock. I've never lived anywhere but Minnesota, so it should be interesting! My husband has been working down there since mid March and the kids and I hope to follow in another month or so. For the time being we'll be renting a place while our house is being built.
So, this is all I've figured out so far about Austin:
1. Hobby Lobby is CLOSED on Sundays!
2. Already found a LSS in Cedar Park, can't remember the name.
3. The Oasis was really cool.
4. All Y'all really say All Y'all
Thanks MsGreta for helping out your upline who is abandoning you :(
My family and I are all from Minnesota. In re: to #4 which is true and will happen to you too! We have what we refer to as the Missouri Compromise..."Oh YEAH, ya'll!"
Is the LSS in Cedar Park Scrapbook Crossing, my 2nd home?!
You will love it! I love going back home to Minnesota, but I realized a lot about here that I missed when I was up there.
#1) They pack your groceries here!!! For you, at all grocery stores! Not just the really expensive ones!
#2) A LOT less mosquitos!
#3) People are SO MUCH friendlier! It will shock you at times!
#4) Conservatives/Republicans out number (not sure how this will effect you - I love it!)
There is also all day everyday kindergarten! I am not sure if you have any that age, but.....
I live in North Austin. I do much of my shopping in RR. And I work there too! I also have two little boys. Calvin who is 3 1/2 and Brom who is 18 months. We should all get together and do something....hmmmmm....stamping comes to mind!

I have always heard that everyone is So Friendly in Austin! Being born in Houston, I would only consider moving back to Texas if it was in the Austin area. It is so beautiful there!
Denise, good luck on your upcoming move and I know you'll get to love it there.
Another one from Round Rock here. The only way I agreed to move to Texas was is if it were Austin, doesn't feel as much like Texas as other parts of the state. We moved here from the Washington, DC area five years ago and really like it. I am 32 and my kids are 3 and 1.
Feel free to pm me if you have any questions about the area or just want to get together once you are here.
Ooh, you guys are making me miss Austin! It's a great town, you'll love it. My favorite store to visit, when we're in town, is Garden Ridge. I so wish there was one in Colorado!
How did I ever miss this thread??? Another Round Rock resident here. We have been here for 1 1/2 years and absolutely love it. I am excited to see there are so many of us in the area and probably a lot more that we don't even know about. Good luck on the move and look us up when you get here.
Its good to see there are so many Austin people around. I just moved down here from Massachusetts about 10 months ago. And I JUST found that scrapbooking store LAST WEEK. Can you tell I don't venture out much?? LOL:p . I still have yet to actually go down into the City of Austin. I will get there soon though. Now that I am finally unpacked I am planning on really getting into my stamping and also getting out and seeing this great city that I live in!
Anyway, being that I am New to Austin, new to stamping and new to this board, I thought I'd just jump in and say "hello" or I guess I should be saying "hi y'all";)

I am in Austin, too! I LOVE it here. I moved here from Dallas and felt like I had died and gone to heaven! I also like Minnesota a lot. Dh's family lives in Winona and Minneapolis. We go there in the summers to escape the heat. (Unfortunately, it felt just as hot there with all the humidity. We don't have as much humidity in Austin.) Welcome to Texas!
