Anyone have a theory on the retiring crayon sets??

I am just curious if anyone has a theory on why SU! is retiring the crayon alphabets and Crayon Fun, but not Crayon Kids? Don't they think we need an alphabet for this set??? :(

My theory isn't a nice one.

Alphabets are expensive - but people buy them. So they clear out half of them every year (if you haven't noticed) I had 4 or 5 alphabets get retired last year.

i am not happy about this decision.

I was thinking the same thing. And what about the wheel? Is it going to retire too? I am bummed about the alphas retiring, so I'll have to get them and the wheel now.

On the flip side, I think it's cool that they "mix it up"! I keep all of my alphabets and I use them all the time (I am a demo, so I don't use them in workshops). So I guess I actually LIKE that they get new ones.

Buckeye Stamper, if you're a demo, you can sell them once they retire (if you wait a month or two, you can probably get more for them) on eBay. They really hold their value! Then you can turn around and get one of the new sets!

PS- if you're not a demo, you can sell them anytime.

I've noticed that they seem to start retiring a group of things one year and then finish it off the next. Another example are the Hedgehog stamps!! Or the old style two step flowers (pansies, morning glory, sunflower) One that surprised me was the smile stamps. They retired the accessories one year and then came out with a new smile accessory set the next year. I'm just glad that Cute as a Bug and Ladybug Picnic are still around. :)

Take care, Brenda

well all I can say is JULY ISN"T GOING TO COME FAST ENOUGH!!! :D

I have Crayon Kids and the whole ABC set/numbers. I was kind of perplexed as to why they would get rid of Crayon Fun and the ABC sets but NOT the Crayon Kids. What's up with THAT?

I'm thinking maybe they will come out with another "co-ordinating" crayon set to replace Crayon Fun. I was thinking there was no way to really come out with another crayon type alphabet. I mean, there's really only one type of crayon font, right? So maybe they'll come out with like a crayon double alphabet? That'll be cool.

Guess we'll just have to sit back and wait until July.

Good thinkin' Maslex!

Hmm, I hope you are right! Wouldn't that be great!

;-)

I think that Crayon Kids, with both the boy and girl as well as the images that can be used for trees, clouds, etc., might be more versatile than Crayon Fun. Perhaps they decided to just keep one in this particular style to make way for something TOTALLY NEW & FABULOUS!!!! I hope so!!!

I'm thinking Crayon Fun may have bombed as an attempt to coordinate another set with Crayon Kids. If stamps don't sell, it makes sense to retire them. Quite a few of the retiring sets were just introduced in this year's catty!

I'm hoping that since they are retiring the alphabet, that they'll have a new set of greetings written in a crayon font... like "It's your day!" "Celebrate!" "Smile" "Friends" or whatever. I would LOVE that!

Judy,

You so look like Emma Thompson.:D

I was a little peeved about the Crayon Fun alphabet set retiring...I was thinking about buying it but now I am going to wait (plus a friend has it so I could just borrow it) and see what the new alphabets look like- plus there are other companies that make crayon font stamps so if I find I really want a crayon font set I should be able to find one...although if they came out with a crayon double font it would be first on my list!!!!!!

I have the Crayon Cuties set that they had at first to coordinate with Crayon Kids but that retired and same with Crayon Christmas (which I wish I had bought)...I would assume since they are still keeping the Crayon Kids set they might be coming out with another smaller coordinating set...I hope so I love my Crayon Cuties set...

Just in case I know I am going to get the wheel....

I love this idea!!

For those of you interested in the wheel, order it now. The wheels aren't listed on the retirement list, and it would be so sad to lose out on it, especially if it is one that you like.

Make sure you tell SU what you want! Otherwise, how will they know? Email them! here is the contact address from SU!s homepage: [email protected]

My theory is that they still sell Crayon Kids stamp set and the other sets like Crayon fun don't sell as well. I bet Crayon Kids will get the axe next year.
