I thought the VV craft pad would be thick and juicy like my white pad and leave a bold imprint in the same way but just in a vanilla color. Every time I have used this pad so far, I have hardly been able to see the image. It really doesn't show up like my white ink. Is it just me? Is it supposed to be like this?
ok, here's what I did. I stamped a solid leaf with very vanilla on orange cardstock, then stamped a simmilar solid leaf in white next to it, and it's no where near as opaque as the white. is everyone's like this? I'd be interested to know. thanks!
Michelle
ok, so I was disapointed in the result, so I tried heat setting it, and it became much more opaque. much more like what you'd expect I think. does everyone have to heat set their vanilla to get it to be opaque? does it become more opaque as it dries w/o heat setting? what an interesting topic.

Yup!!! Mine too. I was thinking that I just got a bum pad... but maybe it's not just me. I was going to order reinker and hope that it is better then.
My white pad, however, is 3 years old and still too juicy for me!! I have to use a very light touch when I stamp with it or it will be smudgy or smeared. Does that happen to anyone else? I know my Upline's isn't that way. Hers works perfect! We describe my white as being like marshmallow Fluff!!

Reason: spelling errors!! DUH!!
Most of your light, but not white, pads have to be heat set to get the color you are looking for. And they aren't as thick and juicy as the white. Get the same effect from barely banana and sage shadow and really most of those really light colors. Honestly, I wish my white was more like vanilla. I would suggest getting the reinker and see if that helps. They do some to come drier than the white one... which is juicy beyond reason.

here's a link to the card I made with my experiment. the vanilla is stamped next to the white, just for an example that shows the difference. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Michelle,
Thanks for the visual, that is a big difference in the way the 2 pads stamp. My white pad is way to wet (very easy to smear). I don't have the vanilla one yet (on wish list) so now I will be sure to order reinker at the same time.
I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one! I was starting to think I got a bad Vanilla pad. I'm going to go ahead and get the re-inker and see if that helps. My white is also a marshmallow fluff one! Very juicy (almost too much so) any suggestions or how to "dry it up" some?
My first vanilla pad was as you described. I told my demo, she called SU and they shipped me out a new vanilla pad. It is like my white one...nice and juicy!

I finally gave up and ordered the reinker too! It is better. HTH
thanks for sharing this info. i didn't ever try to get a juicier one, I kinda thought that's how they all were, but now that I know maybe i'll just order a re-inker! thanks for the info.
Michelle
I did just order the reinker, after a year of use. My vanilla pad came much drier than my white, which is still almost too goopy to use, after over a year of storing it "upside-down", wiping the top, etc. I have found that I have to use a little more pressure with the vanilla to get even coverage, but I'd much rather have it be that way than over-inked. It's a balancing act, and everyone's different, so I'd just order the reinker and make it "your way."
