Default Square card size?

Wondering what size people are making their square cards? I have tried 5, 5 1/2, and 6. None of them seem quite right to me. But when I go smaller than 5, the card seems too small. Perhaps I ought to try 4 3/4. Haven't tried that size yet. Also where do you all get your square envelopes (and what size are they)?

TIA,
Christie

thx.

so paper zone is partners with memories. we have a memories close by. however, *they* don't carry 3/4 of the stuff that paper zone does--including the envies. it's so frustrating to have to pay shipping!

I happen to make mine 4 1/4" square; I primarily work with 8 1/2 x 11", and one sheet will yield 2 cards, so that's my preference.

Some square cards come pre-fab, with envies included in the packaging, such as those produced by A Muse, American Crafts, Making Memories, SU!etc.

You can also purchase square envies in various sizes online at various paper suppliers. You can make your own using templates.

The ones I have made are 5 1/4" and fit the SU square envelopes.

I make lots of square cards - checkout my gallery . Most of the time I make them 4.25 square and I use a regular envelope (for 4.25 x 5.5). Sometimes I make 5x5 and use my SU envelope template to make envelopes. Square envelopes require extra postage no matter what size they are though.

I make my square cards to fit the sq envelopes that I have on hand! Whenever I happen to see a box of square cards/envelopes at the dollar store I pick them up....toss the cards or cut them down for something else and use the envelopes for my own cards. I also pick up square envelopes at JoAnn's and LSS when I see a size/color that I need or looks interesting.

Having a variety of sizes of sq envelopes allows me to pick the one that will be most appropriate for the card I have in mind to make.

This is what I do too - I prefer making them no bigger than 4.25" then they fit in the reg envies and I don't have to pay extra postage

Default square cards

I use 5 x 5 for square cards. You can use cd envelopes. They are the exact size. You can actually address the "back" so it is the front and let your card show thru the circle for the back. You can get empty cd envelopes at almost any office supply store

I have thought of the 4.25 card fitting in the regular envie for no added postage. It just seems like a small card. Perhaps if I do less layers, it won't seem so small. I like the CD envie concept making the back of the envie the front.

To the person with the dollar store idea, that's great. I *never* would have thought of that. I'll have to check that out next time I have a moment without small children!

And finally to the person who buys them at JoAnn's... I've never seen them there. In what section do you find yours there?

Thanks for all the good suggestions,
Christie

I like 5x5 but 4x4 is nice because you can take a 12x12 sheet of cs and get 4 cards from it, nice if you're making multiples
