Default Altoid Tin Help!

How does one get rid of, or mask the printing on the side of the tin? I spray painted one & everything covers great - EXCEPT - that best used by printing/date on the edge. No matter how many times I paint it bleeds through. Magic Eraser doesn't work. Alcohol doesn't work. Will nail polish remover? Don't own any, so hate to buy any. Do I need to Kilz it?
I want a painted surface to work off, not paper.

Thank you ALL!

Hmmm...when I spray painted mine it didn't show through. I know a lot of people just glue a grosgrain ribbon around the edge.
