Default alternative to Grafix?

I'm having a hard time finding anyone local who sells Grafix. I got to thinking...would those cheap window clings that they sell around the holidays and stuff work as a reasonable substitute? What do you guys think? I don't have any unstuck, unmounted stamps to try it on. Maybe I could glue the rubber onto the printed side of the window cling?

Oh, I just got a great idea! I'm going to try it on a cheap $1 stamp from Michael's. Will post results once I can find my window clings and try this.

Hi! What is Grafix? I have never heard of it. Is it something you stamps on? or use to store unmounted on?
Thanks!
Kim

Basically, it's cling vinyl that you adhere to an unmounted stamp and can therefore use and reuse the stamp with an acrylic block. I'm running out of storage space and was going to try this stuff out but can't find it

Okay, I got one mounted. I need to let it dry (used Alene's tacky glue) before I try it out. Oh gosh, I'll be so excited if this works!

Oh ok, it must be like ez-mount or creative cling then? My stamps have the creative cling on them and then I use the acrylic block/handles.
Thanks for explaining...
Kim.

yup, that's what it is...like EZ Mount or Creative Cling. I'm just looking for a cheap alternative.

I just stamped with it and it stuck to the block! Didn't move when I stamped the image or when I cleaned it on my Stamp N Scrub. I'd sure like to compare with the real stuff. Will have to keep hunting...

So, stuck to the block like 'good stuck' or 'not great stuck'? I saw on another thread that someone found colored Grafix at Michael's...I may have to go there tonight and investigate, thanks for trying.

It was like 'okay' stuck. I sometimes have problems with those window clings actually clinging to the window so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I'd like to compare with the real stuff to see if there's much of a difference.
I went to two different Michael's and wasn't able to find the Grafix in the stamp section, art section, or kids craft section.

I found colored Grafix cling at my Michael's - not with the kid's craft items, but more to the back of the store where they have kid's art supplies (like poster board, paint markers, adhesive letters) - just an aisle or so over from the art aisle with the prismacolor pencils and calligraphy supplies.

I tried it on a set and at first wasn't all that impressed; it stuck "ok" but not great. Then I cleaned my acrylic block and it made all the difference in the world. I think I had some sort of oily residue from ink or cleaner or double-stick tape or something, and once that was gone, hole-y smokes! That stamp was stuck and even when I tried smooshing it around on a dry paint pad (my cheapo version of a stamp-n-scrub), twisting and dragging it on a sheet of cardstock and it did not move.

If you can find it at your Michael's, it's some great stuff. It was only $6.99 for a pack of 9 9x12 sheets in assorted colors, and if you use a 40% off coupon... There's only one sheet of clear in the pack, but the purple exactly matched the purple rubber on the Timeworn Trim set I used it on and looked kind of cute. You also get white, black, orange, green, yellow, blue and red (one sheet of each color.)

I tried some old window clings. They are thicker than Grafix and I was not impressed. Used it on some stamps I did not care about. It works in a pinch, but not nearly as well as Grafix. I have only used the clear so cannot speak to the colored.

Okay, the 3rd Michaels store I went to had the Grafix, which I think, has a little better cling than using the printed window cling. However, how do you adhere the Grafix to a rubber stamp that was already wood mounted? I tried using some Tacky glue but the glue isn't drying and it was left overnight. Should I Xyron the Grafix?

I found some Grafix at my Micheal's, thanks for the tips ladies where to find it!
I tried it on a Michael's $1.00 stamp and it works great! I can't wait to get my TAC stamps (getting some from the B/S/T board) and see how Grafix compares to E-Z mount/Creative Cling! This whole 'mounting on acrylic space saving' idea has me intrigued!

Oooh, great idea, my dollar stamp seems to have a really sticky adhesive but I should see how well it is stuck to the Grafix in the morning.
