Question ? About Using a Stapler on Cards

This may go in Stamping 101 but I am not sure and I know Iíll get some help on this here so here goes
I see a lot of cards with pieces of ribbon stapled onto them. There are a ton in the Take Ten mag and in the galleries and they look really cute!
I have tried this using my regular, smaller sized, stapler at home and it looks really bad!! I have tried what I have seen explained, somewhere(?), coloring with sharpies onto the staple to change the color and this doesnít work either, you canít really tell it was colored; it still looks like a metal staple.
Are there special staplers and staples for crafting or is mine too big and maybe the staples are too ugly or am I totally confused?
How do you all do your stapling ribbon onto cards??
Thanks!!

I use the colored staples by Making Memories. I get them from TAC but perhaps there's another place to buy them, I'm not sure. I LOVE them!

I purchased some colored staples in the stationery aisle at Target. I also bought some from my local office supply store.

I bought mine (it's a mini stapler) from the $1 store. Works great for me and I think it looks good. They are just normal metal staples. I have never used the coloured ones.

I got a bunch of colored staples at Target after the Christmas/Holiday sales last year.

I think for the most part they are regular staples... I too bought the ones at Target. They do look like metal, after all that's what they are, but they look nice... If you have a Michaels, Joann's or scrapbook store near you ... my bet is ...they have them.

I got mine at Target too.

Although the one time I tried using them the paint chipped of the staple

So back in the drawer they went.....

I found a nice selection at Office Depotl the colored staples were also sold separately - for standard sized staplers

It may be that the stapler you are using has really big staples. There are two sizes of normal office type staples, one is really long and the other is more 'normal' sized. There are also mini staples. I'm guessing the shorter the staples are, the better they look.

I got my Stapler from my CTMH demo. They have the coolest Stapler I've seen in along time.

It's called a "Pivot Point Stampler. You can use the baby any way you want to.
In circles, backwards. The head rotates on it.
It looks like a regular stapler until you use it.
It takes regular staples. I use my staples that I purchase from TAC in it all the time.
Look in my gallery to see my cards.

I have used both plain metal staples and colored staples. They are all the same "regular" size. But I think they don't look very good with really narrow ribbon. I like staples better with a ribbon cluster......

I use a plain old stapler and staples I got at a local office supply store. I have a mini stapler around here somewhere but I rarely use it (prolly cuz I can't find it! lol)

I agree that staples do not look good on Narrow ribbon.

I use regular colored staples that I bought last year. And as much as I use them they will last another year.

But sometimes they look good on a card. It's different. than the same old boring way everytime.

I think that my staples might be too big. It sounds like I just need to give it another try and get some smaller staples, too. I also can't seem to get the ribbon folded over just right when I do it but everyone elses looks just right but not perfect, but perfect...KWIM?
Oh well, i'll practice some more using all these good tips!

I use mono to hold the ribbon together before stapling. If not my fingers are trying to hold the ribbon down at the same time as I am trying to staple-not a good combo. So my ribbons are already held in place as a "v" before being attached.

I have your basic Swingline stapler and it works great. You can get colored staples at Wal-Mart in the Stationery section. I have only seen 4 colors there though. Royal blue, Lime green, Purple and Turquoise. They're cheap too. $1.27 per pack of 2000.
