Default ? brayer inking 12x12 paper

I saw this being done in a SU catalog - the paper must be glossy card stock that they sell for this purpose. But the idea of a black and white patterned paper that I can add ink to really hit me as such a smart idea.

When I brayered ink onto card stock, it covered everything, including the pattern.

Have any of you tried this on regular card stock? Not glossy paper, but black and white DSP card stock? Is there an ink that works best for this, like Distress or SU inks?

How can this be done with regular B/W DSP without doing a resist (embossing with clear EP) on the paper?

Thanks for adding your experiences and ideas.

What kind of ink did you use for your brayering?

Any brayering on DP will affect the colour of the entire sheet unless it has a resist element. I believe SU had/have some designs which were white paper with various clear resist designs printed on, perhaps that is what you saw? K&Co and DCWV have some coloured DP with resist-style printing on them, but not plain white that I know of.

Not a big fan of brayering, me, but I learned years ago from Markies Mom about sponging colour onto existing DP to alter the colours to suit a project if the DP isn't quite right

I have brayered Memento and Distress Inks. Lots of Distress stuff on all kinds of paper.

Did not do pigment. I don't think anything can be seen through pigment.

SU must have the pattern in high gloss then. From the looks of it, they get a fairly strong white pattern, so they must be buffing that ink off with a baby wipe or clean rag.

The idea appealed to me when I think about SU inks. I'm not wild about any of their DSPs, and the thought of brayering SU inks over my own DSP (which I have tons of) seemed to fill that need to match ink to cardstock exactly - so SU! The brayering seemed like a good way to get an even tone over a large piece of DSP - but maybe not. I just didn't want the mottled look of sponging or misting, but now that I think about it, everything else I do is mottled or Pollock...

I just knew if it could be done, you guys would know how.
