Default About "hit & miss"

Hey thanks, jailbird for starting that post (hit & miss)! I've been hitting such a run of misses that if I didn't love stampin so much, I might just pack it in. I've been studying what seems to "work" and "not work" both in my own stuff and in the daily gallery (where inspiration is a daily fix on the "works" side!). What I *think* I'm noticing is that the "doesn't work" is because it's out of harmony in some way?! and becasue of that the eye doesn't really know where to land?! Anyone with me on this? Any other thoughts? (And I'd agree with a lot of the posts in "hit & miss" that one stamper's miss is another's hit.)

I have noticed that a lot of my misses are too busy and you're right your eye doesn't know what to focus on.

I've noticed I can 'see' my card much clearer in a picture... I can see the tinest crooked line.... or that it's too busy and what you said about the eye can't focus anywhere. It's so weird but after I view it thru a camera lens I see it so much better.

This is so true! I've lost count of the times I've scanned and it looked like something was missing and off I went to the stamp room again.

Funny too that the card I uploaded yesterday for the IC32 just didn't look finished until I gave up and scanned it anyway and loved what I saw on screen. Maybe the eye can focus better, whatever...it works!

I think you hit the nail on the head! That's why I love the sketch challenge. And I try to remember less is more.

I agree with all of the above. I'll add that I've got so much stuff now, so many stamps, that I have a tough time picking and choosing and think that affects the end product--all that hemming and hawing doesn't make for a clear creative vision, kwim? For example, I have no problem coming up with baby cards because all I really have is Buggies and Booties (love it!), and it's so easy to put something together that's harmonious and balanced. But I'm trying to get started on Christmas cards now, and I have a few hundred Christmas stamps--yikes! I just can't seem to focus. Yet every time I try to get rid of stamps, I just can't do it. Sigh.

Any advice?
